C10 Bullshit!
Upon encountering Chu Wei's stern gaze, Lin Feng found himself at a loss for words. He couldn't possibly reveal to Chu Wei the origin of the gold and silver treasures he had acquired.
"Where on earth did you get these items? I need an explanation from you. You're aware that we've devoted all our energy to you while you were ill. I expect you not to engage in actions that would bring disgrace to our family. I've always regarded you as my own son and I hope you won't let me down," Chu Wei said to Lin Feng, his voice heavy with anger.
He suspected that Lin Feng had stolen the items.
Overwhelmed by Chu Wei's concerns, Lin Feng struggled to maintain his composure and found himself unable to provide an immediate response. He was at a loss for how to explain the origin of the jewelry. Claiming they were from a past life seemed far-fetched, and even if he were to divulge such a story, it was likely that few would believe him.
"Father-in-law, what can I say to you? How could I possibly stoop to such lowly acts? You know me better than that. If I were to do such things, it certainly wouldn't be at such a crucial time in my life. I can't afford any mishaps in this situation," Lin Feng explained hastily.
Nevertheless, he tried to deflect the issue, knowing that if it remained a topic of discussion, he would be unable to offer any resistance. He couldn't predict what might unfold if the conversation continued.
"Dad, please don't go on about this with my brother-in-law. The fact that he gave me these gifts shows how much he cherishes me as his sister-in-law. Weren't you a bit too harsh on him earlier? I'm at a loss for how to even address this with you," Chu Yao chided, looking at Chu Wei. She believed Chu Wei's approach was somewhat misguided and found it particularly hard to comprehend.
Chu Wei, hearing his daughter's admonishment, was left speechless. He hadn't anticipated such a turn of events and was unable to formulate a response.
"Little sister, what are you doing? Since dad has expressed his desire to inquire about this matter, let him ask. I'm not afraid of his questions since I've done nothing wrong. I've already stated that I'm innocent, so there's nothing more to discuss," Lin Feng said to Chu Yao, eager to move past the subject.
He was worried that if Chu Yao reacted poorly, the issue at hand would become unsolvable.
Watching his daughter and son-in-law in agreement, Chu Wei remained silent. Yet, he was confident that someone like Lin Feng wouldn't act recklessly or do anything incomprehensible to him. He had his own reasons for this belief.
"Alright, you two head back now. Lin Feng, you seemed a bit weak earlier, so go rest up. Once you're refreshed, we'll discuss our next steps. Until then, I won't delve into where these matters originated," Chu Wei said, then waved his hand and returned to his room.
Lin Feng watched Chu Wei leave without uttering a word.
"Brother-in-law, were you hurt earlier? I know Chu Wenn all too well. He's been heartless since childhood, never sparing his rivals any mercy. I'm sure you must have had a tough time. If you're feeling unwell, let me know right away. I'll find you a doctor," Chu Yao advised with concern.
Lin Feng felt that he had indeed been wronged earlier, but he simply smiled in response, not making much of the situation.
Feeling his sister's care, Lin Feng's heart warmed. It had been a long time since he'd experienced such attentive concern, so hearing Chu Yao's words made him exceptionally happy.
He also recognized how fortunate he was to receive such care.
"There's no need to worry. I handled the situation earlier and taught him a lesson. Rest assured, I can take good care of myself," Lin Feng said with a reassuring smile.
Lin Feng was deeply moved by Chu Yao's concern but hoped she would focus on her own affairs. As for the things she shouldn't do, there was no need to discuss them.
"Now that the issue has been dealt with, I'm sure he'll steer clear of you from now on. Our family is lucky to have someone like you who can handle him. I've never been able to stomach Chu Wenn, nor understand his past actions."
"But brother-in-law, I'm convinced that with you in his life, he definitely won't misbehave anymore," Chu Yao said, casting an envious glance at Lin Feng. She also regarded Lin Feng as someone truly deserving of her respect.
Lin Feng couldn't help but find the behavior of the person before him amusing, yet he remained silent, preparing to retire for some rest.
However, just as Lin Feng was about to head back to rest, he was struck by a wave of emotion regarding his wife. He realized he didn't even know who she was; since his arrival in this world, she had never once appeared.
Lin Feng was suddenly filled with doubt. He wanted to inquire with Chu Yao about his wife's identity, but he couldn't bring himself to speak. He understood that asking such a question would inevitably betray a secret.
