C4 Great Harvest!
Jiesen watched Yuan Ge chase rabbits with a sigh and a shake of his head. He didn't think Yuan Ge was abnormal, just a bit of a dreamer. If you could simply knock a rabbit out with a hammer, what was the point of practicing spear-throwing? Despite his thoughts, Jiesen refrained from intervening. He had declared earlier that day his intention to be the first to catch a rabbit and didn't want to squander his time on Yuan Ge.
Yuan Ge, for his part, was indifferent to the opinions of others. Just then, a rabbit hopped right into his trap.
The rabbit, feeling its neck constricted, panicked. It thrashed wildly, kicking up dirt and grass, but its struggles only tightened the noose. Gasping for air, its eyes rolled back in distress.
Yuan Ge approached the rabbit leisurely, a smug smile on his face. He reminisced about how he had mastered this type of snare as a child, often accompanying his grandfather on rabbit-hunting trips in the mountains. Now, in this new world, he was confident in his ability to outsmart his prey.
A rabbit, no matter how strong, couldn't break a tendon as thick as a finger, much less drag a hefty tree stump. Yuan Ge's smile widened as he lifted the Bone Hammer and brought it down on the rabbit's head.
The rabbit, bewildered to its last moment, didn't understand how it had been struck down. Its eyes closed, legs kicked out, and it passed out.
Yuan Ge freed the rabbit from the snare, secured it with a sturdy knot, and dropped it to the ground. After straightening out the disheveled snare, he stood up to continue his pursuit.
The other children were focused on their own quarry, too far apart to notice Yuan Ge's success. Jiekui, in particular, had been watching Yuan Ge's every move with schadenfreude. Seeing Yuan Ge wielding the Bone Hammer in pursuit of rabbits only made him laugh more sinisterly. He had even prepared a few taunts for Yuan Ge in anticipation of his failure.
With that thought in mind, Jiekui quickened his spear-throwing pace, eager to skewer a rabbit immediately.
Jiesen was exhausted, yet another rabbit came into view, a mere dozen steps away—a golden range for a spear throw. The rabbit had paused, its back to Jiesen, presenting the perfect opportunity. With a firm grip on his stone spear, hitting the target should be no issue.
Jiesen lifted the stone spear slowly, his gaze locked on the rabbit, careful not to make any sudden movements that might scare it away. Channeling all his strength into his arm, he launched the spear. It cut through the air resistance, skimming over the trembling grass, and flew straight toward the rabbit.
The moment the stone spear was released, a smile spread across Jiesen's face—it was his best throw of the day. In an instant, the spearhead ripped through the rabbit's hide and flesh, almost piercing it completely.
"Got it!"
Unable to contain his excitement, Jiesen dashed over, seized the twitching rabbit, and hoisted it triumphantly above his head, letting out a long, exuberant "Oh, oh, oh!" His shouts broadcasted his triumph—he was the first to catch a rabbit that day.
Jiesen's victorious cries echoed like war drums across the open meadow, igniting excitement in all the children. The cheers were both a salute to Jiesen's success and a boost to their own spirits.
Jiesen gestured with the rabbit towards Yuan Ge, not far off, inviting his best friend to share in the joy. Yuan Ge responded with a smile and a wave, silently expressing his happiness for Jiesen's catch.
Jiekui glared at the rabbit in Jiesen's hand, frustrated at not being first. But seeing Yuan Ge still in pursuit of a rabbit rekindled his excitement. His weariness vanished as he lifted his stone spear and launched a series of throws at another rabbit.
Meanwhile, Jiesen was on the ground, securing the rabbit. His luck had been good today—not only had he caught the first rabbit, but he would also enjoy roasting it with Yuan Ge later that evening.
Just then, a child's voice rang out in astonishment, "Look, what's Yuan Ge got on his back?"
The child's voice was loud enough to make everyone pause and turn to look at Yuan Ge. Even from a distance, they could clearly make out what he was carrying.
"Rabbits, a whole string of them!"
At that moment, everyone was frozen in disbelief. They couldn't fathom the sight of rabbits being strung up and carried away like that.
Several children dropped their stone spears and ran over to Yuan Ge to take a closer look. They counted carefully—there were seven rabbits in total.
Excited cheers erupted once more across the grassland, the jubilant sounds cutting through the open space and blue sky, lingering long after they were first heard. Even Jiesen joined in the shouting; although he didn't know how Yuan Ge had come by the rabbits, he had witnessed a miracle.
Jiekui, in the meantime, had completely forgotten to retrieve his stone spear. He stood there, mouth agape, staring at Yuan Ge in astonishment. He would rather believe he had lost his mind, as it would make it easier to dismiss the whole scene as a hallucination. But the rabbits draped over Yuan Ge's shoulders were like a series of slaps to his face, each one resounding with a crisp, unmistakable sound.
No wonder he felt so disheartened. He had wanted to be the first to hunt a rabbit and gloat over Yuan Ge, but Jiesen had spoiled that plan. So he had set his sights on being the second, only to watch Yuan Ge casually walk by with seven rabbits slung over his shoulder. And there he was, with nothing but his stone spear sticking out of the ground.
Jiesen approached Yuan Ge, glanced at the rabbits on his shoulder, and said with a smile, "Gen, that's quite the haul!"
Yuan Ge simply smiled back and hoisted the rabbits higher on his shoulder. If it weren't for the fear of being unable to carry them, he could have gathered even more. Besides, one couldn't expect anyone here to help carry the game; it was a matter of personal pride. So Jiesen just smiled and suggested, "Gen, let's head out together!"
Yuan Ge nodded and replied, "Let's go, we'll have rabbit at my place!"
Jiesen glanced back at the large tree stump in the grassland and remarked, "That tree stump? Are we just leaving it here?" It had become evident that Yuan Ge's success in hunting so many rabbits was somehow linked to that very stump. Perhaps it possessed some sort of magical property. If we leave it here, could someone else come along and claim it?
