C1 Let's Get a Divorce

"Honey, I've got to go, he's back. Let's meet tomorrow..."

Elmer had barely stepped through the door when he caught the tail end of Tessa's rushed voice from the bedroom.

A frown creased his brow.

Honey?

Who was Tessa on the phone with? And why did she feel the need to hide it from me?

Without hesitation, Elmer strode into the bedroom.

There lay Tessa, draped across the bed in a provocative black lace outfit, her skin luminous and her figure alluring.

Yet, Elmer was in no mood to admire her.

He had never laid eyes on that lace before.

Tessa's face betrayed a flash of panic at Elmer's sudden entrance, but she quickly regained her composure and shot him a frosty look. "Elmer, have you lost your mind? Barging in like that!"

Elmer's expression hardened as he countered, "Who were you talking to just now?"

"You're questioning me?"

"Elmer, you piece of garbage! How dare you doubt me?"

"Fine, you want to know so badly? Look for yourself!"

Tessa's voice erupted, her anger detonating like a lit fuse, and she hurled her phone at him.

Elmer instinctively caught the phone and saw the most recent call was from 'Xiao Yun', Tessa's best friend.

A wave of guilt washed over him. "Tessa, I..."

But Tessa's cool composure returned, her lovely face etched with scorn. "Elmer, don't pretend you don't know what crossed your mind just now.

I hung up because Xiao Yun was urging me to divorce you, the deadbeat, sooner rather than later. I didn't want you to overhear and damage your precious ego.

"Hmph, I never imagined you'd stoop so low as to doubt me.

But fine, let's get divorced tomorrow. I'm fed up!"

"I'm sick of seeing that security guard uniform of yours, reeking of sweat every day."

"I'm tired of my colleagues gossiping about my husband, the lowly security guard."

"And I'm absolutely done with squeezing onto that overcrowded, foul-smelling bus every single day."

Elmer stood there, dumbfounded.

Tomorrow was supposed to mark the first anniversary of his marriage to Tessa.

Despite her recent coldness, he had never imagined she would call for a divorce now, of all times.

"Tessa, I'm sorry. Please, give me one more chance. I promise to work twice as hard to give you the life you deserve..." Elmer pleaded earnestly.

"Double the effort? Haha, do you even know what kind of life I'm after?

Louis Vuitton, Bugatti, Hermes... Can a pathetic loser like you afford any of that?

Not a chance! You're just a poor security guard making a measly 3,200 yuan a month!"

Tessa shook her head, her face twisted in scorn.

Her words cut through the air like ice, draining the color from Elmer's face.

He had believed that his deep affection and genuine heart would be enough to cultivate a simple, pure love, free from the taint of materialism.

But now, facing the sheer indifference in Tessa's eyes, Elmer realized his mistake.

Before the might of money, all deep feelings crumbled.

In that moment, Elmer's heart was torn with pain, yet he found a sense of release. If you despise a life devoid of material wealth, then why shouldn't I let you have the whole world?

With that thought, Elmer silently approached the TV stand, pulled open the bottom drawer, and carefully lifted out an elegant gift box.

"Tessa, this was meant to be your gift for our wedding anniversary tomorrow. Whatever you desire, it's yours with this. So... please, give me one more chance. Let's not divorce, okay?"

He extended the gift box toward Tessa.

"Smack!"

But Tessa's hand struck out, sending the gift box flying from Elmer's grasp.

"Keep your filthy hands to yourself! Elmer, save yourself the embarrassment of these juvenile, sickening lies.

You might as well kill any hope you have left and stop wasting your time on me.

Because I've never loved a poor nobody like you, not even the slightest bit.

Enough, I'm exhausted. I can't waste another word on you. Just like that, we'll go file for divorce first thing tomorrow morning!"

With those final words, Tessa turned her back, not sparing Elmer another glance.

Staring at her resolute departure, Elmer's face was etched with sorrow.

He silently retrieved the gift box from the floor, opened it, and pulled out a bank card.

This was no ordinary bank card; it glowed with a resplendent golden sheen.

The card's face bore no text or numbers, only the image of a grand palace soaring above the clouds.

Even on such a small card, the palace's grandeur and towering presence were unmistakably felt.

Turning the card over, there was just a single word inscribed on the back!

A word written with grand flourish: "EL"!

Indeed, this golden bank card was the world's one and only Supreme Celestial King Card, universally accepted and with limitless credit.

Its owner was none other than Elmer.

A Super Expert with overwhelming combat prowess, capable of subduing nations.

Leading his Phantom Army, clad in black armor and ghostly masks, with dragon blades thirsting for blood, they were unstoppable, striking fear into the hearts of other races.

Such was the man at the pinnacle of the world, who could beckon a multitude of stunning beauties with a mere gesture. Among them were queens, princesses, and even the Holy Ladies of the Church.

Yet Elmer chose to hide his identity and work as a security guard at Tessa's company, all to silently guard and protect her from the shadows.

The reason was heartfelt. Six years prior, when he was left critically injured by a hit-and-run orchestrated by his own family, not a single soul on the bustling street came to his aid.

At the brink of death, a girl defied her friends' pleas, bravely stepping forward to call for help. She stayed by his unconscious side until they reached the hospital, where she generously covered his 20,000 yuan hospital bill.

Thanks to prompt medical care, Elmer narrowly clung to life.

And that girl was Tessa.

Thus, Elmer owed Tessa his life.

With this in mind, he sighed deeply, a look of resignation on his face, "I had hoped to bestow upon you a lifetime of splendor, but alas, our connection is as fleeting as a grain of sand. So be it... I respect your decision."

With that thought, Elmer retrieved a sleek, black-as-ink phone from the gift box.

A satellite phone with global reach.

*Ring ring ring...*

Just as Elmer stepped out of the bedroom, the phone sprang to life with an incoming call.

Caught off guard, Elmer quickly pressed the answer button.

"Mr. Lowe, you've finally turned on your phone! I'm boarding a private jet to see you right now," came the urgent voice on the other end.

"Qingluo, what's happened?" Elmer's brow furrowed as he inquired.

"Mr. Lowe, this is of the utmost importance. It involves the woman who saved your life six years ago. It's too complex to discuss over the phone, but once you review the documents tomorrow, it'll all make sense. I've got to go, Mr. Lowe—I'm on the plane and about to disconnect..."

*Beep beep beep...*

As the busy signal echoed through the phone, Elmer's face took on a concerned look.

Could this be about the woman who saved me six years ago?

Could it involve Tessa?

For the Jade Faced Shura, the typically composed and dependable second-in-command of the Supreme Celestial King's court, to be this agitated... it was clear that the situation was far from simple.
