C2 You've just Passed up the Best Chance

At 8:30 AM the following day, outside the Pontheugh City Civil Affairs Bureau, Elmer watched Tessa, who was clearly eager to move on, and couldn't resist taking her hand one last time. "Tessa, I wasn't lying to you yesterday. If we stay married, you can truly have everything you desire."

"Let go! Elmer, I thought we could part ways amicably, with dignity. But you just don't get it, clinging on for no reason. If that's how it's going to be, then don't blame me for not holding back!" Tessa's face twisted with disgust as she forcefully pulled away from Elmer's grasp.

She then gestured to someone across the street.

"Rumble..."

Simultaneously, a jarring engine roar erupted from the other side.

In an instant, a white Mercedes-Benz coupe came speeding towards them, the wind howling in its wake.

"Screech..."

The robust tires skidded across the pavement, leaving behind dark streaks, as the sleek white coupe came to a smooth halt in front of Elmer and Tessa.

The door swung open, and a pair of gleaming leather shoes hit the ground first, followed by a portly middle-aged man decked out in designer wear stepping out.

"Manager Herbert?" Elmer's brow furrowed at the sight.

He recognized the somewhat balding man before him—Otto, the deputy general manager of the company he and Tessa worked for.

"Lowe, love is a matter for two, and it can't be forced. So when it's time to let go, you let go. It's better for everyone. I suggest you make a clean break and divorce Tessa swiftly," Otto said, smiling at Elmer.

As Elmer wondered what gave Otto the right to offer such advice, he saw Tessa walk up to Otto with a soft look in her eyes, nestling affectionately against his chest.

Otto's greasy, plump hands began to boldly slide around Tessa's waist.

Elmer's eyes narrowed, his sharply defined face turning icy.

The scene before him laid everything bare.

No wonder Tessa was so insistent on their divorce.

It all made sense now.

Hehe...

Elmer laughed, a radiant smile spreading across his face.

Somehow, he wasn't the slightest bit angry.

Instead, a sense of unprecedented liberation and serenity washed over him.

He strolled up to Tessa and Otto, his deep eyes brimming with scorn and derision. "Is this the best you could do? Found yourself a new prince charming, huh?"

"Heh, congrats, Tessa. But sadly, you've just passed up the chance to have the whole world at your feet."

With that, Elmer spun on his heel and strode into the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Divorce proceedings were starkly simpler and quicker than those of marriage.

In under ten minutes, Elmer and Tessa emerged from the bureau, one after the other.

Otto, who had been waiting outside, was ecstatic at the sight of the divorce certificate in Tessa's hand. He eagerly scooped her up in his oily embrace.

"My darling, I'm overjoyed to see you've finally ditched this loser," Otto said with a sneer at Elmer.

"Smack!"

Tessa, beaming with delight, planted a kiss on Otto's chubby cheek, not the least bit repulsed. "Honey, I'm thrilled too. I'm finally free from that pathetic dweeb."

She then haughtily gestured at the Mercedes-Benz and mocked Elmer. "Elmer, you had the nerve to claim I missed out on ruling the world?

Pfft! Dream on. See this Mercedes? It's the luxury car my hubby gifted me. Think you could ever afford it?"

Otto shot Elmer a contemptuous look and scoffed, "Him? Ha! This poor excuse for a security guard might afford a tire of my car with a year's salary."

Boom!

A fierce, unparalleled aura erupted from Elmer.

He turned slowly, his piercing, icy gaze devoid of any emotion, sweeping past Tessa and fixing onto Otto's face.
