C3 A Flower Stuck in Cow Dung
Emmanuel was far from being cold-hearted, and he fully grasped the meaning behind Daisy's words. Despite being treated like dirt by his mother-in-law, Georgia, and the rest of the Morse family, he would never forget the life-saving grace Daisy had shown him.
He was well aware of Avery, the son of the Harmony Pharmaceuticals Group's CEO—a wealthy heir who had long desired Daisy. Now, with Daisy’s Anlesque Pharmaceutical on the brink of a financial collapse, Avery had opportunistically shown up.
His intentions were clear to all.
Upon hearing this, Emmanuel remained silent, offering no response.
Daisy was all too familiar with Emmanuel's silence and showed no sign of surprise.
"Oh, Mr. Davis, your presence graces our humble home. Daisy is waiting for you in the living room," boomed a loud-voiced woman as the living room door swung open. A stout middle-aged woman ushered a dapper young man in a suit inside.
The woman was Daisy's mother, Georgia, and Emmanuel's mother-in-law. The slick-haired young man was none other than Avery, the CEO's son from Harmony Pharmaceuticals.
"Auntie, you flatter me. I've known Daisy for years; you're practically my own mother," Avery said with a veneer of courtesy, blatantly ignoring Daisy and Emmanuel, who were present in the living room.
"If you hadn't insisted on betrothing Daisy to... what was it, a deaf man, three years ago?" he paused briefly, "Just think about it. Daisy is such a peerless beauty. To pair her with a man like him is... well, pardon my language, no different from placing a delicate rose atop a pile of manure!"
Avery cast a deliberate glance at Emmanuel as he spoke, "Isn't that just squandering Daisy's chance at happiness? If you agree, I'm ready to step in. And I can be your live-in son-in-law as well. Big deal. If Daisy ever grows weary of Forestvale Estate, I could whisk her away on a world tour. Wouldn't that be far better?"
"Mr. Davis, yes, absolutely, you're right. I was foolish, pushing Daisy into an unhappy situation. But now that you're here today..."
Georgia's eyes gleamed with opportunism, her demeanor dripping with sycophancy as she catered to Avery's every word.
"Auntie, I came today for two reasons: first, to help Daisy resolve her financial crisis, and secondly, I'd like to formally ask for Daisy's hand in marriage."
Georgia, the notorious social-climbing mother-in-law, was infamous in the region. When she heard Avery not only held no disdain for Daisy, who was already married to Emmanuel, but also intended to propose to her publicly, her eyes sparkled with opportunity. She glanced at Daisy, signaling her with eager eyes to grab this chance, divorce the good-for-nothing Emmanuel, and accept Avery's proposal, thereby solving their immediate financial woes.
As for Emmanuel, she thought dismissively, let him go back to wherever he came from and not waste any more of Daisy's time.
"Mr. Davis, you're absolutely right, but Daisy is already married..."
Before Georgia could finish, Avery cut her off, "Auntie, please don't tell me you consider Daisy's marriage to that disabled man as a real marriage. Come on, a man like that can be easily dismissed with a bit of money. If the Morse family is reluctant to pay, I'll take care of it, as long as Daisy agrees to marry me..."
Avery's response was perfectly aligned with Georgia's own thoughts.
"Mr. Davis, you truly are the Morse family's knight in shining armor. We can't thank you enough..."
Georgia was ecstatic, her spirits soaring higher than if she had been hit by a lucky pie falling from the sky.
