C4 I will Fire Your Husband for You
The choice between a worthless son-in-law and a wealthy scion like Avery was clear as day. She could weigh their significance with the tip of her toe.
Avery didn't mind that Daisy was married and was even ready to invest 8 million dollars to resolve Anlesque Pharmaceutical's financial crisis. Such an opportunity was like finding a needle in a haystack.
This was also the perfect chance to rid themselves of Emmanuel, rectifying the mistake of once trusting that wandering Taoist who had recommended him.
"Daisy, what are you standing around for? Go on and greet Mr. Davis..." Georgia had weighed the options and decided that Daisy marrying Avery was far superior to staying with the useless Emmanuel. She didn't give a second thought to her dignity and quickly beckoned to Daisy with an exaggerated smile.
Avery acted as if he had just noticed someone else was in the living room, his interest piqued like a fly to decay. He sidled up to Daisy with a lecherous grin.
"Tsk, Daisy, it's been a while. You look even more beautiful, more radiant, and more voluptuous than I remembered..."
Daisy shot Avery a contemptuous look. "Avery, let's cut to the chase. Anlesque Pharmaceutical is facing a financial crunch and needs 8 million dollars. If you're willing to provide the funds, I'm prepared to offer you a 30% stake in exchange."
"Daisy, if you're asking, of course, I'm willing," Avery replied, reclining on the sofa and casually shrugging his shoulders. He pulled out a cigar, lit it with a snap, and lounged with one leg crossed over the other, rhythmically bouncing his foot.
"Do you mind if I smoke?" he asked, though it hardly seemed like he was seeking Daisy's approval.
Daisy bent down to retrieve a contract from a nearby folder. "Good, since you're agreeable, let's get this agreement signed."
Avery drew a deep breath from his cigar, exhaling a perfect smoke ring, his eyes narrowed as he appraised Daisy. "What agreement?"
Before Daisy could respond, Georgia chimed in with a smile, "Exactly, Daisy. You heard Mr. Davis. We're all family here. Why the need for an agreement?"
Her eyes narrowed into slits as she pursed her lips and frantically signaled to Daisy. She was as antsy as if having ants in her pants, terrified that Daisy might utter some unforgivable words.
Daisy was speechless, sitting on the sofa, frozen in the awkward silence.
Avery drew in several deep drags from his cigar, then pointed the glowing tip at Emmanuel, who was disgracefully kneeling on a durian. "This guy, the good-for-nothing, the cripple—that's your son-in-law, isn't it?"
"Emmanuel, this doesn't concern you. Get out, now!" Georgia barked, her face clouded with anger.
Emmanuel was about to rise and leave when Avery interjected, "Wait!" He stood abruptly, straightened his suit, and strode over to Emmanuel. Squatting down, he patted Emmanuel's cheek condescendingly. "Don't take it personally that I'm tough on a worthless guy like you. Does someone with a disability like yours deserve Daisy? Can you truly make her happy?"
Emmanuel's fists tightened in secret, yet his expression remained as serene as a still pond, betraying no hint of rage.
Avery pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket and flung it at Emmanuel's face. "For the cripple, here's thirty thousand dollars, a handout from me. Leave Daisy and never set foot in the Morse household again. Otherwise, don't say I didn't warn you. Scram!"
