C7 Three Days of Promise

To everyone's surprise, Emmanuel slowly lifted his head, locking eyes with Daisy, and offered a wry smile. "Honey, if I'm on my knees, who's going to tackle the financial crisis? Don't worry, as long as I'm here, there's nothing to fear!"

What?

Daisy was certain she hadn't misheard or misseen anything. Emmanuel had lost his mind!

Who in their right mind would be in the mood for sweet nothings at a time like this?

Besides, she harbored no affection for Emmanuel. His words, far from warming her heart, only stirred a sense of revulsion.

Yet, looking at Emmanuel's determined gaze, it was clear he wasn't joking.

Even Georgia gave him a second look, her curiosity piqued. When did this good-for-nothing show such resolve? Surely, he hadn't taken the wrong pills?

"Three days!"

Emmanuel held up three fingers with conviction. "Just give me three days, and I'll secure eight million dollars. Your company will be back on its feet!"

Daisy and Georgia exchanged glances, both bewildered. Not only had Emmanuel gone mad, but he'd also taken leave of his senses!

Three days to come up with eight million dollars? Had he won the lottery, or was he planning to rob a bank?

"Emmanuel, cut the nonsense. Time's running out. You're a complete waste of space, so just get out of Daisy's way. She's got enough on her plate without you adding to it," Georgia scoffed, rolling her eyes at him.

Emmanuel exhaled a deep, silent breath. Three years of humiliation seemed to wash away as he reclaimed his self-assurance.

He strode past Daisy and Georgia, pausing only to glance at his mother-in-law. "Georgia, it might be time to consider a diet."

With that, he made his way to the living room door.

"Emmanuel, you good-for-nothing, how dare you criticize my weight? You're defying the very heavens!" Georgia exploded in a fit of rage.

Daisy called out, "Emmanuel, where are you off to?"

Calmly, he answered, "To raise the funds."

"Raise the funds..." Daisy echoed, her voice trailing off as she turned to Georgia, bewildered. "He... He can't seriously be insane, can he?"

"Ha! Let him pretend to be more than he is. Eight million dollars? How's someone as useless as him going to find that kind of money in three days? Even a cornered dog will leap over a wall, but he's less useful than a dog."

"At the end of the day, he's just all talk and no action. You expect him to raise funds? Ha, he'd be better off being reborn into a wealthy family in his next life!"

Upon further thought, she pinned her last hopes on Avery, putting on a smile, "Daisy, darling, I'm not being materialistic, but Mr. Davis's suggestion was excellent. Why not divorce that loser and marry him instead? If Avery becomes the Morse family's son-in-law, he won't be able to stand by and do nothing. Surely, he'll be willing to fork over the money to fix our eight-million-dollar liquidity crisis..."

"Enough!" Daisy cut her mother off before Georgia could finish, glaring at her with deep resentment. "Three years ago, you believed that wandering Taoist's words, claiming Emmanuel would bring prosperity to his wife. You had him marry into our family, but have you no idea what I've endured these past three years?"

"Do you not see Avery for who he is? A man skilled in indulgence—eating, drinking, gambling, and smoking. And now you're suggesting I marry a complete scumbag. I have to ask, am I even your real daughter?"

Georgia's eyes widened, feigning innocence. "I'm only thinking of what's best for you. Besides, Mr. Davis's family isn't lacking in funds..."

"Please, no more. Just go, let me have a moment of peace!" Daisy pleaded, sinking back into the sofa and gesturing towards the living room door.

With a heavy sigh, Georgia reluctantly exited, her disappointment evident.
