C20 If You Don't Come I'll Kill You!
Did Chen Fan not realize who Zhou Qianlong was? If he did, why would he act this way? Did he truly believe that Zhou Qianlong wouldn't dare to lay a hand on him?
Chi Feng watched Chen Fan with a cold gaze and declared, "Well, well, you just don't get it. Since you're clueless, your life is no longer worth sparing!"
With those words, Chi Feng drew his weapon and charged at Chen Fan.
As Chi Feng advanced, Chen Fan sidestepped the attack and swiftly moved behind him. He placed a hand on Chi Feng's shoulder and delivered a kick, causing Chi Feng to lose his balance and kneel on one leg.
Chi Feng tried to fight back, but his efforts were futile; he couldn't escape Chen Fan's grasp.
Eventually, Chi Feng ceased his struggles and said icily, "Go ahead and kill me if you're capable. If I die, Mr. Zhou will surely find out, and he will avenge me!"
Was he trying to remind Chen Fan about Zhou Qianlong's status?
Truth be told, Zhou Qianlong's status was formidable. In terms of social standing, he couldn't hold a candle to Zhou Qianlong, and he certainly didn't want the hassle.
Chen Fan sighed, his face etched with a hint of difficulty. After a moment, he turned to Chi Feng and proposed, "I had no intention of causing a rift between us. I'm responsible for all this, and it would be unfair to hand over all the credit to you. So, how about you take me to Zhou Qianlong, and I'll discuss the matter with him directly?"
Chi Feng was nothing more than a henchman; talking to him was pointless. Killing Chi Feng wouldn't be worth boasting about, and Zhou Qianlong wouldn't care less.
At this point, Chen Fan's only aim was to buy time, to delay as long as possible.
Upon hearing this, Chi Feng's brow furrowed, and he looked up at Chen Fan with a hint of uncertainty.
"Are you serious?"
Why the sudden change of heart? Why had he agreed now?
Chen Fan nodded affirmatively, "Yes, I'm serious. I've agreed because I believe you're not in a position to decide for Zhou Qianlong. So, take me to him, and we can have a one-on-one conversation. That shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Upon hearing this, Chi Feng hesitated momentarily but ultimately nodded in agreement.
He was in no position to make decisions for Zhou Qianlong.
Their streak of bad luck was astounding. Since their arrival, they had failed to accomplish Feng Yuxiu's task, and now, with Faang Liude dead, they couldn't even get close to his body.
They had initially followed Zhou Qianlong solely because of his background and strength. Without those, why would they have given Zhou Qianlong the time of day?
Moreover, Zhou Qianlong had never treated them as human beings. Even animals are given time to rest, but they were not afforded even that.
Their daily mission was to monitor every move of Lu Xuanxin and the police station, ready to report back to Zhou Qianlong at a moment's notice.
While Lu Xuanxin's people had time to rest, they were deprived of such a luxury, which was utterly absurd!
As time ticked away, Chi Feng seemed to come to a realization. He glanced at the hand on his shoulder and then refocused his gaze on Zhou Qianlong, asking, "So, are you going to let me go now?"
Chen Fan promptly released Chi Feng upon hearing this.
Chi Feng shot Chen Fan a stern look before rising to his feet and moving forward.
"Well then, you might as well come with me. If there's anything you need to discuss, you should take it up directly with Zhou Qianlong. It's none of my concern. Don't bother telling me; I'm not interested in hearing it!"
Chen Fan trailed behind Chi Feng, heading straight to Zhou Qianlong's local residence.
Here, they had assumed new identities. Chen Fan was now known as Prof. Wang, while Zhou Qianlong was the director. Their location wasn't far from the police station—a mere ten-minute journey back and forth.
After about ten minutes, they reached their destination.
Upon their arrival, Zhou Qianlong was seated on the living room sofa. His expression soured instantly at the sight of Chen Fan—it couldn't have been more unpleasant.
Chen Fan, unfazed by the tension, walked over to an adjacent sofa and sat down, his gaze fixed on Zhou Qianlong.
"I think it's time we had a talk," he said.
Chi Feng, observing Chen Fan's bold demeanor, bowed his head, too intimidated to utter a word or even breathe too loudly. Chen Fan's audacity in Zhou Qianlong's presence was startling—was Zhou Qianlong courting disaster or what?
Zhou Qianlong's complexion had indeed turned very dark, his entire face contorted into an ugly scowl.
Chen Fan seemed oblivious to Zhou Qianlong's sour expression. He glanced at Chi Feng, his intentions clear as day.
Zhou Qianlong met Chen Fan's gaze, then closed his eyes and took a deep breath, forcefully quelling the anger bubbling within him. After a moment, he opened his eyes and gestured dismissively at Chi Feng, "Alright, your presence is no longer required. You may leave."
At these words, Chi Feng's face lit up with relief. He nodded, turned on his heel, and made a swift exit.
Once Chi Feng's figure had vanished, Zhou Qianlong redirected his attention to Chen Fan, his voice icy, "What's the matter? Have you come to me today because you believe you're incapable of completing the mission?"
Chen Fan simply shook his head.
He casually tapped his fingers on the arm of the sofa, leaving Zhou Qianlong to wonder about his intentions.
Zhou Qianlong watched him silently, offering no further words.
Eventually, Chen Fan lifted his head to lock eyes with Zhou Qianlong and said, "My visit isn't due to any failure to complete the mission. Surely you understand the real reason I'm here?"
With a quirk of his eyebrows, Chen Fan's gaze held a playful curiosity as he studied Zhou Qianlong.
Their eyes met in a silent exchange, each man's thoughts inscrutable. The standoff continued without a word.
Chen Fan, not one to dawdle, pressed on, "If I hadn't come to see you again, would I even still be alive?"
Both knew all too well what lay in Zhou Qianlong's heart, and what he was capable of doing.
Had Chen Fan not shown up, Chi Feng might have been the issue this time, but next time it could be someone else entirely.
Zhou Qianlong, far from offended by Chen Fan's implication, nodded with a hint of pride, "Indeed, that's the truth. If you hadn't come to see me again, I would have had to kill you!"
With a smirk that didn't quite reach his eyes, Zhou Qianlong's expression was enigmatic, leaving one to guess at his true thoughts.
