C11 Fighting Side by Side!
Bai Ningshuang furrowed her brow, puzzled. "The director wants to see me? What does he want?"
"I'm not sure, but it seems urgent. You'd better head over there quickly."
"Okay, keep an eye on this guy for me. I'll be right back!"
Bai Ningshuang entrusted Jiang Zhuo to the officer and hurried out of the hall.
The officer gave Jiang Zhuo a once-over and shook his head disapprovingly. "You seem like a smart person. Why turn to crime instead of doing something worthwhile? What did you do?"
"Assault with intent to cause harm!" Zhu Zhiyong interjected.
"He attacked you?" The officer turned to Zhu Zhiyong, confused.
Zhu Zhiyong shook his head, gesturing towards the bandaged man in the wheelchair. "My little brother here was the one he hurt!"
"That severe? You didn't hold back, did you?" The officer exclaimed, taken aback.
Before Zhu Zhiyong could respond, his gaze fell on another officer nearby. His face brightened as he waved and called out, "Cousin!"
The officer, a man in his forties, commanded respect in the hall, with junior officers bowing as he passed.
Hearing Zhu Zhiyong's call, he looked over, puzzled. "Cousin, what are you doing here?"
"Cousin! You've arrived just in time. Please, I need you to avenge me!" Zhu Zhiyong said, his face a picture of distress as he approached.
The captain, looking bewildered, stepped forward and asked, "What happened?"
"It's like this..."
Zhu Zhiyong approached the chief, his voice quivering as he recounted Jiang Zhuo's violent actions.
After hearing the story, the police chief's anger flared, and he glared at Jiang Zhuo with icy eyes. "You dared to strike my cousin? It looks like you're ready to spend your next life behind bars."
Jiang Zhuo, hands clasped behind his back, glanced over nonchalantly. "Perhaps you should ask your cousin where he got his pistol."
"Pistol..."
At that, the chief's pupils shrank, and he started to breathe more heavily.
Zhu Zhiyong's eyes darted about frantically as he stammered, "You're spouting nonsense. I don't have a gun!"
While speaking, he shot the police chief a knowing glance.
Unperturbed, the police chief snorted, "Kid, don't even think about framing me. It's illegal to possess a firearm!"
Jiang Zhuo narrowed his eyes, surveying both the police chief and Zhu Zhiyong with a hint of curiosity. "Could it be that you're the one who gave him the gun?"
"Nonsense!"
The police chief's heartbeat quickened. Feigning outrage, he bellowed, "Stop spouting rubbish. Do you realize that every word you utter will be used as evidence? Reckless talk could land you in legal trouble!"
"Why are you getting so worked up?"
"Worked up? I'm merely cautioning you against defaming the innocent. I've encountered plenty of troublemakers like you, eager to stir up chaos. A thorough interrogation usually sets things straight."
The chief swallowed hard, a glint of malice flickering in his eyes. He commanded the officer beside him, "Take him to the interrogation room. I'll handle the questioning personally!"
The officer paused, then spoke up tentatively, "Chief Huang, Sister Bai instructed me to wait for him here. He's her suspect. Wouldn't it be against protocol for you to interrogate him?"
"Bai Ningshuang? Don't mind her. He's a criminal regardless, so what difference does it make who conducts the interrogation?" The chief's eyes gleamed briefly as he spoke nonchalantly.
The officer wavered, uncertain.
Impatience flashed in the chief's eyes. "What now? Do my orders mean nothing here? Is Bai Ningshuang the only one who gets a say?"
"No, no! Your orders stand. I'll take him to the interrogation room right away," the officer stammered, quickly nodding in agreement.
Standing nearby, Zhu Zhiyong, buoyed by the support, stood tall and sneered at Jiang Zhuo, "Kid, it doesn't matter if you're Lin Zhengtian's lifesaver or anyone else. Once you're in here, not even a deity could save you!"
"Hahaha! You're in for a treat in the interrogation room!" The man with the bandage laughed heartily, his face alight with schadenfreude.
Jiang Zhuo's gaze swept over the group, finally resting on the chief's face. He asked coolly, "Are you certain you want to side with him?"
The sheriff stood tall and sneered, "I'm not helping him. I'm simply interrogating a suspect, which is standard procedure. I hope you appreciate what's good for you. If you happen to bump into something in the interrogation room, don't blame me."
His words carried an unmistakable threat.
Once inside the interrogation room, even someone as formidable as Jiang Zhuo would have no choice but to take a beating!
And if injuries needed to be examined, he could easily concoct an excuse to absolve himself of any responsibility.
For a police chief, dealing with an ordinary person was a piece of cake!
No matter how defiant or imperious one might be, they would have to fall in line once they stepped out of that room!
"Take him away!" the chief commanded.
"We'll see who dares!"
Just then, a young man entered from outside.
It was none other than Xiaowu!
Following him were several middle-aged men.
"Wow! What the heck, don't they know where they are…"
The chief's face twisted with rage as he turned to face the entrance of the station.
Upon seeing one of the men, his face went pale, and a look of panic crossed his eyes.
He quickly swallowed and hurried forward, bowing deeply, "Mr. Mayor, Chief!"
"Huang Linjin, feeling mighty, are you?" Ma Dongshan glanced at Jiang Zhuo, a flicker of fear in his eyes.
His face then turned to a scowl as he fixed his gaze on the chief.
Huang Linjin shuddered, bowed low, and said with trepidation, "Chief, I was about to interrogate the suspect, so..."
"Shut your mouth! You imbecile!" Ma Dongshan shouted.
"The upper echelons are corrupt, and the lower ones crooked. It's time for a clean-up at the Jiangbei City police department to root out the rot."
A dignified middle-aged man with white at his temples and a commanding presence spoke up coldly.
"Commander Ye, your point is well taken. After this, I will certainly get my house in order," said another person nearby with a wry smile.
"The Hall of Thunder?!" Huang Linjin gasped in shock upon recognizing the man.
The head of the provincial department?
The direct superior of the Bureau Chief!
How could such a high-ranking official appear here?
Moreover, how could someone of such stature act so courteously in the face of the middle-aged man's reprimand?
Huang Lijin's face went blank as he gazed at Commander Ye, feeling an overwhelming sense of familiarity.
After a moment of reflection, he sharply inhaled and blurted out, "Commander Ye Fan?!"
Ye Fan paid no mind to Huang Lijin's outburst and straightened his collar. He approached Jiang Zhuo with a solemn demeanor and saluted.
"General Jiang!"
Jiang Zhuo regarded Ye Fan and lifted his hand in a returning salute, "Ah, Commander Ye, it's been a while."
Ye Fan, visibly moved, smiled and said, "You still remember me?"
"How could I forget? Weren't we comrades-in-arms during the Ping Mountain uprising in the south?" Jiang Zhuo replied with a smile.
