C19 Let Him Try!
He pointed at the elderly man lying in the hospital bed and cut to the chase, "You claim he's suffering from complications of high blood pressure? That hardly seems plausible, doesn't it? Can't you simply measure his blood pressure right now to see if he has it?"
Gao Hai's complexion turned ashen, then flushed, feeling a burning sensation on his face.
Bai Ningshuang furrowed her brow, "You talk as if you're a medical expert. If you think Gao Hai is wrong, then enlighten us, what exactly is ailing my grandfather?"
"Hehe," Jiang Zhuo glanced at the old man and couldn't suppress a chuckle.
"What's so funny? You scoundrel! Coming in here to revel in another's misfortune. You think you're being clever, don't you?" Gao Hai was livid, his forehead veins bulging as he barked angrily.
"Jiang Zhuo, don't push it. If you're clueless about medicine, then quit your laughing!" Bai Ningshuang was seething with rage, glaring at Jiang Zhuo, so angry she looked ready to explode.
"Is laughing a crime now? Officer Bai, you're not planning on throwing me back in jail, are you?"
Jiang Zhuo caught the look of distress in Bai Ningshuang's eyes and couldn't resist the urge to tease her, watching her with a playful gaze.
"Laughing isn't a crime, but you, sir, are morally reprehensible and utterly repulsive!" Bai Ningshuang spat out the words, her eyes brimming with disdain and loathing.
She was on the verge of losing her mind with frustration!
What kind of person has the gall to barge into someone's hospital room and gloat over their misfortune?
"Kid! Out! This isn't a place for you. I'm only going to say this nicely once!"
Gao Hai's gaze was icy as he pointed towards the door, his voice commanding.
"Are you sure you want me to go?"
Jiang Zhuo gave a sly smile, looking at Bai Ningshuang and remarked, "If you're going to let some incompetent doctor treat your grandfather, you might as well turn a healthy man into a patient."
"How presumptuous you are!"
Just then, an elderly man, likely in his late fifties or early sixties, entered the room.
Gao Hai whirled around and, upon seeing the elder, his face brightened as he eagerly approached, "Professor Guo, you've finally arrived!"
"Professor Guo!" The others in the hospital room bowed respectfully.
Professor Guo, with his hands clasped behind him and a medicine box slung over his shoulder, surveyed the group and responded coolly, "Please, dispense with the formalities."
"Professor Guo, you wouldn't believe this, but this nobody just showed up, making a spectacle of himself and even dared to call you a quack. He's really courting death!" Gao Hai quickly whispered, trying to stir up trouble.
Guo Jingyi's gaze was stern as he fixed his eyes on Jiang Zhuo, scoffing, "You're calling me a quack? I, Guo Jingyi, have been renowned in the medical community for decades, and no one has ever dared insult me like this!"
Jiang Zhuo's gaze shifted slightly as he looked at Guo Jingyi and offered a calm smile, "Whether or not you're a quack will become clear once you've assessed the elderly gentleman's condition."
"Oh? Are you challenging me to a wager?" Guo Jingyi's expression darkened, his anger flaring.
"What kind of comprehension do you have?" Jiang Zhuo shook his head in exasperation.
"If I correctly diagnose the old man's condition, what will you say then?" Guo Jingyi asked icily.
"Kid! If Professor Guo heals Elder Bai, you must kneel and apologize to us!" Gao Hai interjected from the sidelines, raising his voice.
"And what if he fails?" Jiang Zhuo replied with a smirk.
Guo Jingyi swept his sleeve with a look of contempt, "I can't cure him? Kid, I've crossed more bridges in my career than you've walked roads. A frog in a well has no right to speak so boldly. It's utterly shameless!"
"If you fail to cure him, then admit you're a quack and vanish from my sight. How does that sound?" Jiang Zhuo said, his smile widening.
"Fine! Prepare to kneel and apologize!" Guo Jingyi accepted the challenge.
He then set the medicine box on the nightstand and began extracting a stethoscope and other instruments.
Gao Hai snickered behind his hand, shooting Jiang Zhuo a look of schadenfreude, "Kid, Professor Guo is a renowned physician in the north. You better get ready to kneel and confess your error."
Jiang Zhuo remained unfazed, tuning everything out with an air of nonchalance.
Gao Hai, witnessing his demeanor, was infuriated to the point of gritting his teeth.
This guy was just too good at playing it cool!
Bai Ningshuang stood to the side, her gaze fixed on Guo Jingyi with palpable tension.
As time ticked away, Guo Jingyi conducted a thorough examination, inside and out.
It wasn't until five minutes had elapsed that he reached a verdict, stating gravely, "Miss Bai, your grandfather appears to be suffering from partial paralysis."
"Pfft!"
Jiang Zhuo couldn't contain himself any longer and burst into laughter.
Guo Jingyi's forehead veins pulsated with intense anger, his eyes ablaze with a fury that seemed almost tangible.
"Have you had enough?" Bai Ningshuang's eyebrows shot up as she snapped in irritation.
Gao Hai was equally livid, hurling insults, "You fool, with your snide remarks. Do you really think we're pushovers?"
Taking a deep breath to quell his rage, Guo Jingyi locked eyes with Jiang Zhuo and asked icily, "Do you have a differing view?"
"Not at all, please, proceed with the treatment. I'm eager to see how you handle it," Jiang Zhuo said with a smile, shaking his head.
"Hmph!"
Guo Jingyi let out an exasperated snort, pulled out a set of silver needles, and began to administer acupuncture to the elderly patient on the bed.
"Listen here, kid! I suggest you stop causing trouble deliberately, or you'll regret it!" Gao Hai warned, seething with anger.
Jiang Zhuo remained stoically indifferent, continuing to disregard him.
Gao Hai, feeling ignored by Jiang Zhuo, became so enraged that his face reddened and his anger reached a boiling point.
Minutes more slipped by.
Guo Jingyi's face grew increasingly grave, his forehead glistening with sweat as he concentrated on inserting each silver needle into the patient's acupoints.
Regrettably, despite his efforts, the old man on the bed remained unresponsive.
Eventually, Guo Jingyi's expression soured, unable to find a way forward.
"Professor Guo, what seems to be the problem?" Bai Ningshuang inquired anxiously.
With a furrowed brow, Guo Jingyi replied somberly, "Your grandfather's condition is more complex than I initially thought."
"Pfft!"
"Damn it!" Guo Jingyi erupted with a curse, unable to contain his frustration.
Jiang Zhuo chuckled and shook his head. "If you're not capable, just own up to it. Her grandfather's illness can't be that complex."
"Oh? Seems like you know something. Why not give it a shot?" Guo Jingyi's face darkened, his expression as grim as soot.
"No way! He's not a doctor. How could I possibly let him treat my grandfather? If anything goes wrong, not even his life would make up for it," Bai Ningshuang protested, positioning herself protectively in front of Jiang Zhuo, her gaze sharp with caution.
"Ningshuang, let him have a go. With Professor Guo here, he won't be able to get away with anything. Professor Guo will keep an eye on him, so there's no risk," Gao Hai said with a mischievous smirk, barely suppressing his laughter.
"Professor Guo, I just don't trust him," Bai Ningshuang implored, turning to Guo Jingyi with a look of desperation.
