C21 He Didn't Hear Clearly!

Sister?

The security team captain's eyes bulged in shock, and he gasped, his face a picture of disbelief.

The dean was his sister?

This, this, this...

Suddenly, the captain was drenched in a cold sweat, feeling as though he had plunged into an ice cellar, his limbs freezing.

Behind him, the other security guards exchanged bewildered glances and hung their heads.

"The dean is your sister?"

Bai Ningshuang was astounded.

Lin Shixuan glanced at Bai Ningshuang, then at Jiang Zhuo, and said irritably, "So, you came here to flirt, is that it?"

"I did no such thing," Jiang Zhuo protested, caught between laughter and disbelief.

Gao Hai, standing nearby, was utterly stunned, frozen in place as if turned to stone.

He could never have imagined that the dean of the People's Hospital was Jiang Zhuo's sister!

The security team captain, sweating profusely, bowed deeply and stammered, "Dean, I... I didn't realize he was..."

"Go settle your paycheck and don't make me repeat myself!" Lin Shixuan said sharply, her voice icy and brooking no argument.

With that, she took Jiang Zhuo by the arm and headed upstairs.

Jiang Zhuo chuckled and teased, "Sister Xuan, who knew you had such an icy demeanor?"

Lin Shixuan shot him a sidelong smile. "I am the dean! To you, I'm your sister, but to everyone else, I'm the head of this hospital. If I don't maintain a bit of aloofness, how can I command respect?"

"You have a point," Jiang Zhuo conceded with a nod.

"What caused the conflict with him?" Lin Shixuan inquired, puzzled.

Jiang Zhuo wore a bemused expression as he leaned in closer to Lin Shixuan. "You fired him without even knowing the reason?"

"Of course! He tried to hit my brother, as if he had the courage of a bear and a leopard combined! I was lenient for not dealing with him more harshly; a slap was the least he deserved," Lin Shixuan said fiercely, protective of her brother.

"Uh..."

Jiang Zhuo's heart warmed at her words, and he smiled. "You're not worried that it might have been my fault?"

"I don't see you as someone who would stir up trouble on purpose," Lin Shixuan noted, well aware of Jiang Zhuo's character.

"Well, it's not a big deal. That guy's cousin is overly sensitive. He couldn't handle a couple of jabs from me and panicked, looking to his brother to deal with me," Jiang Zhuo explained nonchalantly.

"So it's just a trivial issue?"

"What else would it be?"

"Let's drop it. His resignation will serve as a lesson. Follow me; we're going to check on a particular patient."

Jiang Zhuo accompanied Lin Shixuan to the hospital's fifteenth floor, where the ward was bustling with noise and commotion.

Even from a distance, they could hear a man's angry shouts, "Where's your dean? This is outrageous! She obviously doesn't respect the He Family at all!"

"Sir, please calm down. Dean Lin will arrive shortly," a nurse responded.

"A deputy dean dares to challenge the He Family? Outrageous! What does it matter if she's the disciple of the Holy Doctor? In this region, who doesn't show some courtesy to the He Family?"

"I dignified her with the title 'Dean Lin.' Without my respect, she's nothing! I bet she's trying to kill my father. She's despicable!"

As these words reached them, Jiang Zhuo's expression visibly darkened, and a glint of coldness flashed in his eyes.

Lin Shixuan's face also turned sour, but she remained silent and quickly approached the entrance of an opulent ward.

"Dean, you've arrived?"

The nurse at the door greeted Lin Shixuan with a relieved exhale.

"You can go back to your duties; I'll handle things here," Lin Shixuan assured her with a nod.

No sooner had the nurse departed than a man in his thirties stepped out, positioning himself in the doorway of the ward.

Looking down at Lin Shixuan, he huffed coldly, "Dean Lin, had you been any later, my father might have been beyond saving!"

"Young Master He Wenhao, there's no need for such urgency. I am confident in managing your father's illness," Lin Shixuan attempted to enter.

He Wenhao stood in her way, his gaze dark and his tone hostile as he threatened, "Are you truly confident? What if you fail to heal my father? Then what? Your People's Hospital is full of incompetent doctors, and you, touted as a disciple of a medical sage, are nothing but a name. If my father suffers, I'll ensure you're disgraced and live with regret for the rest of your life!"

Lin Shixuan was on the verge of speaking when Jiang Zhuo, with an impassive face, pulled her aside and positioned himself in front of He Wenhao.

"Who are you?" He Wenhao inquired, his brow furrowed as he noticed Jiang Zhuo.

Jiang Zhuo, kneading his fingers together, responded nonchalantly, "Regardless of your family's influence, remember that you're the one asking my sister to treat your father, not the other way around. Mind your language!"

He Wenhao, infuriated to the point of laughter, retorted, "You son of a—do I really need to beg her? What gives that wretched woman any right to—"

Bang!

He was cut off mid-sentence as his body was sent flying backward, crashing heavily into the ward.

"Zhuo!" Lin Shixuan exclaimed, her face draining of color in alarm.

Jiang Zhuo stepped into the ward, his gaze sweeping over the silent crowd. "Seeking medical help requires the proper attitude. Drop the haughty airs of nobility," he stated coolly.

The ward was filled with a diverse group—men and women, young and old—all clearly from distinguished families, as evidenced by their attire and demeanor.

At that moment, not a soul spoke.

An older middle-aged man glanced at the groaning He Wenhao on the floor, took a deep breath, and respectfully said, "My apologies, Dean Lin. My brother's concern for our father's health led him to speak out of turn. Please, don't take it to heart."

"Damn it all!"

He Wenhao, clutching his throbbing chest, continued his tirade as he struggled to his feet, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

"Third brother, show some respect and apologize to Dean Lin!" the middle-aged man reprimanded sternly.

"Screw you, you—"

He Wenhao spat, about to hurl more insults, but the sight of Jiang Zhuo's casually raised hand terrified him into swallowing his words.

"Apologize!" the middle-aged man demanded, his face stern.

Bitterly resentful, He Wenhao clenched his teeth and managed to say, "I'm sorry."

"I didn't catch that," Jiang Zhuo said with a sidelong glance, his tone indifferent.

"Damn it!" He Wenhao exploded in rage, glaring venomously at Jiang Zhuo.

"Louder!" barked the middle-aged man.

Reluctantly, with eyes brimming with resentment, He Wenhao bellowed, "I'm sorry!"

The middle-aged man gave Jiang Zhuo a meaningful look before turning to Lin Shixuan with a respectful gesture. "Dean Lin, I implore you to lend your aid and save my father."

Lin Shixuan's eyes sparkled as she regarded Jiang Zhuo.

As she brushed past him, she murmured, "Zhuo, you're so handsome."

Then, standing beside the sickbed, she spoke clearly, "I fully understand everyone's emotions right now."
