C10 The Comatose Patient Opened His Eyes
“Grandpa, I’ve come here to pay you a visit.”
Ning Xue did not pay any attention to the words of the middle-aged man and woman. She instead made her way to the front of the bed and grabbed her grandpa’s hand. Her eyes were brimming with tears as she softly called out his name.
The old man lying on the bed was Ning Xue’s grandfather, Ning Zhongshan.
The middle-aged husband and wife couple standing to the side were her uncle, Ning Hao, and her aunt, Cao Hui.
Ning Xue’s parents passed away when she was very young and it was Ning Zhongshan who had raised her.
However, half a year ago, much to the family’s bewilderment, Ning Zhongshan had an accident. Afterwards, he had been bedridden, unconscious, and in a vegetable state ever since then. The doctors did not know what to do. They had done all they could, yet his condition still remained the same.
“She has become really insolent over the years. Young Master Lin, I’m sorry about this. Please have a seat. I’ll help you with the fruit.”
Cao Hui stared daggers in Ning Xue’s direction while taking out a mango from the fruit basket beside her at the same time. She said coldly to Ning Xue’s crying form while cutting the fruit, “Stop with this nonsense. The doctor said that your grandfather won’t be able to hear any of it anyhow. This is a waste of your energy. Instead of letting him pass his days like this, might as well pull the plug now and allow him to leave this world peacefully.
“What did you just say to me just now?” Ning Xue’s face turned cold when she heard her words and the expression she gave Cao Hui was cold through and through.
Cao Hui felt her cold gaze and instantly felt chilled in her heart. She could not help but cower to the side.
“Xue, how dare you speak to your aunt in this way?” Seeing how she was treating her aunt, Ning Hao turned to look at Ning Xue and scolded her at the same time. Then he said, “Your aunt is not wrong. In your grandfather’s current condition, we’re only allowing him to suffer longer if we keep this going, right?”
Ning Xue did not say a word, only tightly grasping Ning Zhongshan’s hand.
“Uncle Ning, our family is familiar with a few foreign experts. I will try and get them to come over in two days and have them examine Grandpa Ning. Maybe they’ll come up with something useful to help speed up his recovery.”
After a moment, Lin Faang gave this some good thought and said to Ning Hao with a smile on his face.
“We really can’t trouble you.” Ning Hao waved his hand around.
“What concerns Xue is my matter from now on. This is no trouble at all. It’s a deal then,” Lin Faang said this with a smile.
When Ning Hao heard his words, joy overflowed in his eyes.
The Lin family was a very prestigious one in the South Sea. And Lin Faang would inherit the entire family empire when his predecessors pass on. Although the Ning family’s background was not bad, they were still far behind that of the Lin family’s.
If this marriage between Ning Xue and Lin Faang could be carried through, his status in the South Sea would see new heights in the future.
“Xue, Young Master Lin has been beyond helpful in our matters. Be sure you thank him.”
To the side, Cao Hui was getting very excited and this pushed her to urge Ning Xue.
Ning Xue did not bother saying a word. But merely picked up the amulet she bought from Ye Tian and carefully hung it around Ning Zhongshan’s neck.
The moment the Peach Wood Amulet came into contact with Ning Zhongshan’s skin, pale green Auras that would be invisible to the naked eye immediately began to penetrate every part of Ning Zhongshan’s body.
“What’s going on?”
Cao Hui saw the amulet and went over to get a more careful look.
Ning Xue did not say a word, but there was a hint of expectation in her eyes as she focused her gaze onto Ning Zhongshan.
“This is an amulet that Xue just brought with 5,000 yuan outside the hospital. She thinks this will help her grandpa’s condition,” Lin Faang said this all the while without a break in his smile.
“She brought a broken piece of wood for 5000 yuan?” Cao Hui could not help but sigh. While looking over at Ning Xue, she said, “Xue, you should be wiser in the future when spending your money. This swindler’s words cannot be believed.”
“Even the best doctors in the South Sea have long given up in finding a cure. What could a liar’s words do to help the situation? Do you like tossing your money around at such empty expenses?”
Ning Hao could not help but shake his head repeatedly.
“Uncle, Auntie, you don’t need to worry. I won’t let that little liar get away with this! In two days, I’ll have dragged him out and taught him a valuable lesson. I’ll make sure he’ll think twice before going out and swindling the public again!”
After saying that, Lin Faang immediately pounded his chest confidently. A fierce light could be seen flashing in his eyes.
That stupid little liar had caused him to lose a lot of face in front of Ning Xue today. He must do all he can to seek revenge from him.
“Young Master Lin, you are too righteous and kind! How can we ever thank you?”
Ning Hao and Cai Hui both rushed over to give Lin Faang a thumbs up and overflow him with praise.
“Xue.”
Just as Ning Hao and Cao Hui continued to lavish Lin Faang with their praise, a weak and old voice suddenly sounded out from the direction of the bed.
Although this voice was barely above a mouse’s whisper, instantly, everyone’s eyes fell on Ning Zhongshan!
This was too incredible! He had actually awakened!
The next second, Ning Hao and Cao Hui could not believe their eyes. Ning Zhongshan, who had been in a coma for half a year, actually regained consciousness at this time.
To add to that, his gaze was clear and you could see his spirit behind them!
“Grandpa, you’ve woken up!”
Though Ning Xue was stunned, it did not take long for her to recover. After regaining her senses, she threw herself onto the old man and cried out with absolute joy in her voice.
“Good child, everything’s alright now. I’m fine,” Ning Zhongshan stroked Ning Xue’s hair with love in his eyes and said this gently.
“Go and notify the doctor of this at once!”
There was a look of disbelief on Ning Hao’s face as he shouted out this command to Cao Hui.
Ten minutes later, a doctor rushed into the room to complete the examination. He were 100% sure that Ning Zhongshan had recovered.
“What woke him up? Did he receive some external stimulus? Or did you give him something to eat or something?” After the doctor finished with Ning Zhongshan’s check-up, he turned to the family members and asked with disbelief in his eyes.
Ning Zhongshan had been comatose for half a year. Even today while the doctor was making his rounds, the patient showed no signs of waking up. But now he had miraculously opened his eyes again and was interacting calmly with family as if he had not been in a coma for six months. This was simply too good to be true!
“We did nothing and we did not give him anything to eat either.” After saying that, Cao Hu was suspicious deep in her heart.
Ning Xue could hear the suspicion in her aunt's voice and her eyes could not help but catch sight of the Peach Wood Amulet on Ning Zhongshan’s neck!
They had not done anything that could cause Grandfather to wake up at this moment. Could his awakening be due to the magical components related to the Peach Wood Amulet?
“Such a miracle! Congratulations, the patient appears to be in good health, though a little weak. With some rest, he will be able to recover in no time!”
The doctor did not notice anything out of the ordinary with Ning Xue’s behavior. After complimenting her some more, he made his way out of the ward.
“Xue, why the weird face when the doctor was questioning you just now?”
Ning Zhongshan’s heart strings were pulled at the sight of his granddaughter. After he had woken up, his attention was all turned towards Ning Xue, so he did not miss the strange expression that had appeared on her face.
“You waking up at this time might have been because I bought you this Peach Wood Amulet from the Great Master.”
After hesitating for a moment, Ning Xue decided to fill Ning Zhongshan in with the whole story.
“Such nonsense! The item you bought from the swindler and your grandfather waking up is just a coincidence.” Cao Hui’s lips were curled up in disdain. She did not believe the words coming out of Ning Xue’s mouth at all.
“He’s the same age as us. What is it about him that tells you he’s a master?” Lin Faang could not contain his unhappiness and muttered out loud.
“There’s an old saying that goes, a true person hides his face well. It’s hard to put a label on this kind of thing. But whether or not this is related to him or not, I woke up after the Peach Wood Amulet was placed around my neck. I can only call this fate. Xue, go see him some other time and be sure you thank him for me.”
Ning Zhongshan had traveled and seen many places while in his youth and his ears had heard many strange stories. This must be one of them. He waved his hand and interrupted Lin Faang, then told this to Ning Xue. Eventually, he picked up the Peach Wood Amulet from off his chest and gave it a closer look. All of a sudden, he asked in a puzzled voice, “How is this possible? Why is there a crack in this amulet?”
“There’s a crack?” Ning Xue heard his words and rushed over to look. She turned the Peach Wood Amulet in her hand and stared down at the pendant.
And indeed saw that there was a thin crack visible in the middle of the Peach Wood Amulet.
This puzzled Ning Xue. For when she bought it previously, she had carefully inspected it and found not a single crack on its surface.
Grandfather was cured, but now the amulet had a crack in it. Could the crack mean that the amulet had helped Grandpa avoid a disaster?
Doubt filled Ning Xue’s heart. But more and more she was becoming curious about that youth who had sold her this amulet and wanted to see him as soon as possible.
Lin Faang looked at Ning Xue’s star-struck appearance and immediately became angry.
Ten minutes later, Ye Tian made his return back to the rented house.
If one wants to achieve greatness, he must not stop cultivating. After Ye Tian came back to his room, he sat down in a cross-legged position, and with his palm to the sky, he slightly meditated on the Idea of Flint Monastery. In his mind’s eye, he visualized the Dantian and the strength of the Spirit Fire!
After a good moment, he slowly opened both his eyes.
An even more intense golden light entered his line of sight.
After this round of cultivation, his vegetative coloring completely went away. A new energy moved through his entire body.
In addition, the aura emitting from his body had grown even more fierce. His essence could be compared to a sharp sword that was about to be unsheathed! Such power was being harnessed in his body!
“The Spiritual Energy on Earth is really too weak. At this speed of cultivation, I’m afraid it'll be a week before I can level up to the Cavern stage two!”
After Ye Tian sensed the changes being made to his body, he let out a heavy sigh and muttered this regretfully.
Ye Tian had just walked out of the room when he heard a knock sounding out at the door.
“Big brother, I’m your next-door neighbor. My mother heard that someone new just moved in, so she asked me to come over and give you some meat patties.”
Ye Tian opened the door to see a little girl with black hair and braids standing in the doorway. In one of her hands was a plate while her other hand was busy bringing up melon seeds to her mouth. With a roll of her eyes, she said this in a dazed tone.
“Thank your mother for me,” Ye Tian said.
Ye Tian took in the sight of the little girl standing before him, smiled, and took the plate out of her hands.
She was the same little girl who sat on the wall when he was perched on the tree that morning.
“Big brother, my mother said that someone died in this house.” After Ye Tian had taken hold of the plate, the dark and thin girl had already leaped into the yard. She glanced at her surroundings as she continued to eat her melon seeds. Then she turned to look at Ye Tian with an innocent and clear expression on her face. “What if you see a ghost when you sleep here tonight?”
