C5 The Teacher in Charge of Biology Competition Was Dumbfounded.!
As soon as he spoke, the room fell into a stunned silence.
The looks they exchanged were suddenly charged with new meaning.
"Self-studying?" Lee Xu scoffed, his eyes brimming with amusement. "Apparently, some people truly believe they're something special."
Guo Lin was there too, his face dark with irritation.
But recalling yesterday's events, he opened his mouth to speak, only to remain silent.
"Are you just trying to make yourself feel important?" the third-ranked student in the grade murmured, shaking his head gently.
His words found their way to Chen Mengtong's ears.
Disappointment filled her gaze as she looked at Hee Liang.
"He's not pushing himself for the college entrance exams, yet he has the audacity to aim for the Grand Plan!" Her fists tightened under the table, her disappointment in Hee Liang palpable.
Then, a wave of helplessness washed over her, and she felt an overwhelming urge to cry.
"How can I help Hee Liang when I can't even help myself?"
Thoughts of her ailing mother weighed heavily on her spirits.
"Didn't the school say that every student who makes it to the second round of testing is entitled to use the lab? I'm not wrong, am I?" Hee Liang's gaze was clear, showing no hint of intimidation.
The biology competition teacher scowled, thinking the student was biting off more than he could chew.
"Enough! He's made his choice!" Annoyed, he unhooked a keychain from his belt.
"Here's the key to the spare lab next door. Take it."
He was reluctant to waste more words on Hee Liang, not wanting to hold up the other top students.
"Thank you, teacher," Hee Liang said, accepting the key before exiting the classroom.
"What a waste of time!" Lee Xu thought to himself, a smug sense of satisfaction creeping in.
Hee Liang had once outshone him, but now he was nothing more than a has-been.
The thrill of this reversal was exquisite!
Now, he was the top of the class!
He was the brightest star in the entire school!
Hee Liang entered the neighboring classroom with the key in hand.
"The biology competition isn't just about the written exam; practical skills are crucial too." Hee Liang was well aware of this, as it was clearly stated in the Grand Plan's examination guide.
The written exam is worth 160 points, and the practical test is worth 140 points!
The total value of the test paper is 300 points!
Hee Liang approached a microscope, feeling a sense of wonder.
"I haven't touched any of this stuff in three months..."
Yet everything felt so familiar!
"It seems that advanced high school biology is more useful than I thought!"
Hee Liang inhaled deeply, his eyes shining with determination, and began his experiment.
He handled the various instruments with even more dexterity than before. Coupled with his extensive knowledge base, he worked with ease!
At that moment, Hee Liang resembled a genuine research scientist.
His concentration was intense, completely absorbed in his work.
It wasn't until the class ended that he snapped back to reality.
He noticed a layer of dust on his clothes.
He returned the instruments to their places and headed to the adjacent lab to return the key to the biology competition teacher.
Upon entering, he found the room empty.
But there were piles of documents on the lectern.
"Did he step out to the restroom?"
Hee Liang advanced a few steps, placed the key on the podium, and was then captivated by a question on the blackboard.
It was a multiple-choice question about the numerical relationship between deoxyribonucleotides and amino acids.
The calculation was complex!
Instinctively, Hee Liang began to work it out in his head.
Twenty-five seconds later, his eyes brightened, and he nodded slowly: "C! 1426. That has to be right!"
"Exactly! It's C!"
A male voice emerged behind Hee Liang, startling him slightly.
He turned to see the biology competition teacher looking at him with an intense gaze. Hee Liang said, "Teacher, I came to return your key."
"Hee Liang, how did you know to choose C?" asked the teacher, his eyes twinkling curiously.
This biology competition question was not easy.
"I figured it out through calculation," Hee Liang responded calmly.
"In your head?"
"Yes."
The biology competition teacher took a deep breath and said abruptly, "Just now, while I was in the restroom, I ran into Ms. Zhao."
"She mentioned you scored 99 on your biology exam!"
Upon hearing this, the biology competition teacher was equally astonished.
Has this fallen genius truly made a comeback?
After a moment of contemplation, he made his decision.
"You can skip the next class. I'll have a word with your teacher."
"Just stay here with me. I'm going to give you a test to work on!"
"Okay!" Hee Liang agreed, his eyes twinkling with a smile.
With a gentle smile and an air of serene confidence, Hee Liang impressed the biology competition teacher, who grew increasingly convinced of his intellectual revival.
"Hold on for a moment, I'll inform your class teacher and print out an exam for you."
With that, the biology competition teacher departed.
Hee Liang casually chose a seat and settled in.
Within moments, an exceptionally beautiful girl entered.
"Mengtong?" Hee Liang expressed his surprise.
"I left my notebook here; I've come to retrieve it," Chen Mengtong spoke softly upon seeing Hee Liang.
She picked up her notebook, ready to leave.
Facing away from Hee Liang, a flicker of sorrow crossed her face as she said, "Hee Liang, focus on your college entrance exams. Forget about the Grand Plan."
With only a hundred days until the exams, if Hee Liang spent three weeks here, even a vocational school would be out of reach!
But as she was about to walk away, a voice, calm yet brimming with confidence, stopped her.
"Mengtong, I will be one of the three to join the Grand Plan!"
Chen Mengtong's heart sank with sadness. Why was he so naive?
Her sorrow deepened, especially recalling Lee Xu's words.
"Suit yourself," she said, her voice tinged with disillusionment, and left without a backward glance.
Three minutes passed, and the biology competition teacher returned with a test paper in hand.
"I've spoken to your class teacher about the situation."
"These four students just took this test. Now it's your turn during this class period."
Hee Liang nodded, took the test paper, and began to work through it diligently.
The biology competition teacher sat beside him, grading the other four students' papers.
"Chen Mengtong scored 91 points. Quite good," the teacher thought, pleased.
"Lee Xu got 89 points. Also quite acceptable."
"Guo Lin and Lin Xun both scored 87 points."
He had acquired this test paper from a friend, and the questions were quite challenging.
Out of the blue, his phone screen lit up.
He picked it up and read a new message.
"None of the options for question nineteen on the biology test are correct. The right answer is 3678!"
He hastily worked through the problem and, sure enough, the answer was indeed 3678!
And what's more, the other four students had all gotten it wrong!
"Even I got this one wrong. It's understandable that they did too," mused the teacher in charge of the biology competition, followed by a wry smile.
Most students wouldn't suspect an error in the answer key.
Then, he noticed a shadow drawing near.
Looking up, he saw Hee Liang standing right there.
"What's up?" he asked, somewhat taken aback.
"Teacher, I'm done," Hee Liang announced, placing his test paper on the podium and giving a nonchalant shrug.
"What?" The teacher's eyes bulged as he hastily glanced at the clock.
Only twenty-five minutes had passed, and he'd already finished the test?
Hee Liang nodded earnestly before adding in a matter-of-fact tone, "The four options for question nineteen are incorrect. The right answer should be 3678."
The biology competition teacher was left speechless!
