Miss Nalan's Blue Bamboo Cat from the West Marquis Mansion was a celebrity in its own right throughout Heavenly Cloud City. The name of this prized feline was known to many, yet few had ever laid eyes on the kingdom's most treasured pet. Suddenly, a crowd eager for spectacle swarmed the entrance of Ganoderma Hall.
Inside the hall...
The West Marquis Mansion's servants were poised to strike at Lin Yu, prompting the local onlookers to start gossiping.
"Lin Yu's not just lacking in talent; his brains aren't doing him any favors either. How could he possibly think he can cross the West Marquis Mansion? Looks like Ganoderma Hall is headed for a shutdown."
"If he's actually taken to the West Marquis Mansion, he might not die, but he'll surely be skinned alive."
"And if that Blue Bamboo Cat is really dead, the entire Lin family will be dragged down to the grave with it."
...
Lee Chaohua claimed the prime spot at the entrance of Ganoderma Hall to enjoy the unfolding drama. Lin Yu was courting disaster, but that was his problem, not hers. She had warned him, but the fool wouldn't listen. It looked like her older brother's lineage was on the brink of ruin.
A smirk played on Lee Chaohua's face, but the mention of the Lin family's impending doom wiped the smile clean off. Her expression soured—should this reckless kid drag them all down, the injustice would be unbearable.
Outnumbered and outmatched, especially someone like Lin Yu, who had never trained in cultivation, was at a severe disadvantage. Yet, in a moment of desperate cunning, he blurted out, "Wait!"
He glanced back at the hefty cat sprawled on the consultation table and declared earnestly, "There might still be hope for this cat. If you attack me now, you're signing its death warrant!"
The possibility of saving the cat made Liu Ahci and the others hesitate. The cat was Miss Nalan's cherished companion; reviving it would be ideal, but failing to do so wouldn't fall on their shoulders. Still, with the crowd watching, if they attacked Lin Yu and it interfered with saving the cat, they would be the ones to catch Miss Nalan's ire.
"Hmph, you claim you can save Moneymaker?" Liu Ahci scoffed, eyeing Lin Yu skeptically.
"Yes, but it's complicated..."
Lin Yu had just come up with a stopgap solution to avoid a beating and being dragged off to the West Marquis Mansion. For now, he needed to buy some time and figure out a plan.
Hope sparked in Xia Rann's eyes, which had been filled with despair. She looked at Lin Yu and asked, "Little sir, can you... can you truly save Moneymaker?"
Lin Yu gave a hollow laugh, "Complicated, to say the least."
Save what? With his meager medical knowledge, he couldn't even remedy a common cold, let alone revive a cat that was clearly beyond help—unless he possessed some miraculous, life-reviving medical technique...
Ding!
That same ethereal, pleasant sound echoed in his mind. Lin Yu quickly peered into his sea of consciousness and noticed the antivirus interface on his computer screen jolt into action. The progress bar that had been stuck at 99% finally hit 100%. Yet, before the antivirus completion dialog could appear, the 100% indicator kept flashing incessantly.
Almost instinctively, Lin Yu reached out, overwhelmed with excitement. This computer had journeyed with him from Earth all the way to the Heavenly Sun Continent, and it was on the brink of eradicating the virus. Though it was meant to be a mental operation, he found himself physically extending his hand, naturally resting it on the plump cat sprawled across the examination table.
Its fur was silky smooth, and the cat was plump and well-fed, living a life more luxurious than most residents of Heavenly Cloud City.
As soon as Lin Yu's hand made contact with the cat, the blinking progress bar ceased its flickering, and a dialog box appeared:
Host detected: Blue Bamboo Cat
Host Attributes: Rank A Pet
Host Status: Suffering from Interrupted Gut Grass Poison, Survivability: 30 seconds remaining. Proceed with antivirus?
Beside the status, a countdown was ticking away from 30 seconds.
...
Lin Yu froze momentarily, but quickly snapped to attention. Without a second thought, he clicked "Yes" to initiate the antivirus. The interface flickered, and a new dialog box announced: Antivirus complete!
The computer screen then went dark, and his sea of consciousness was plunged into silence.
"Meow!"
The fat cat on the examination table opened its eyes and let out a cry. It flipped over and rose to its feet with agile movements, showing no signs of frailty.
The plump cat squinted its eyes and tilted its head upward to gaze at Lin Yu, as if aware that this young man had rescued it. It affectionately nuzzled its fluffy head against Lin Yu's hand in gratitude.
Lin Yu stared back at the cat, his face a picture of incredulity. Had he really just brought it back to life?
Inside his mind, the computer screen remained dark, yet the device hadn't vanished. Could this be his so-called golden finger?
Once the computer powered on, its antivirus software would spring into action, purging any virus in its path. Not bad at all, Lin Yu thought.
He remembered this particular computer well; it was the same one he frequented at the internet cafe, avoided by regulars due to its unstable system.
But this computer was more than just antivirus programs; it housed a variety of software. If one antivirus could be this formidable, what might the combined might of all the software achieve?
"Heh, hehe..." Lin Yu chuckled to himself. After over half a year in the Heavenly Sun Continent, his golden finger had finally awakened. His life was about to take a dramatic turn, and soon, the entire continent would quake at his feet.
"Dr. Lin, are you okay?" Xia Rann, noticing Lin Yu's giddy laughter, asked with a touch of concern.
Snapped out of his reverie by her voice, Lin Yu gave Xia Rann an embarrassed glance. "Sorry, I just got a little too excited about reviving this cat."
Xia Rann let out a silent sigh of relief. She had been on edge the entire time, and now, with the cat brought back to life and rubbing against her hand with its soft little head, her tears flowed freely once more.
"Dr. Lin, thank you so much!" Xia Rann, dabbing at her tears, sincerely thanked Lin Yu. She pulled a neatly wrapped handkerchief from her pocket and extracted a Spirit Stone, offering it to him. "This is for your consultation. It's not much compared to saving a life, but it's all I have right now. I hope it's enough."
"No worries, it was the least I could do," Lin Yu replied with a smile, accepting the Spirit Stone with a gracious hand.
Saving the Blue Bamboo Cat, a creature worth its weight in gold, for a mere ten Spirit Stones was certainly a bargain. However, Lin Yu was indifferent to the fee. He had serendipitously stumbled upon a solution, like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse, using antivirus software to revive the hefty feline. The amount of the fee was of little consequence to him; what mattered was that this was his inaugural fee, and it held great significance.
The onlookers outside were left agape, and soon burst into a flurry of conversation:
"Isn't Lin Yu known as the infamous dud of the Medicine Master community in Heavenly Cloud City? Did he actually heal Miss Nalan's Blue Bamboo Cat? Are my eyes deceiving me?"
"Could he have been concealing his true abilities all along? He merely felt the pulse of Miss Nalan's Blue Bamboo Cat, and suddenly it sprang to life, eyes wide open and full of vigor."
"Lin Wen is a third-grade Spirit Medicine Master, and his son can't possibly be a failure. It seems we've all been wrong about Lin Yu; he's a genius in disguise!"
...
The chatter grew louder and more animated. Lin Yu wasn't bothered by the gossip; the more they talked, the quicker the news of his feat with the Blue Bamboo Cat would spread. This would surely restore Ganoderma Hall's reputation and secure his sister's tuition.
Though he was no expert in medicine, Lin Yu had managed to save on medical expenses with the help of his antivirus software.
"You're clueless!" blurted Liu A'Kai and the others, their faces red with embarrassment. Liu A'Kai, in a fit of pique, glared at Lin Yu and raised his voice, "The Blue Bamboo Cat is naturally mischievous. It must have been playing a trick on us while Miss was away. You barely touched it, and it woke up—not because you healed it, but because it was never ill. It woke up by its own accord..."
