C4 Pig
Upon sensing Green's presence, the burrower immediately flattened itself on the ground, shaking uncontrollably. One particularly timid burrower was so frightened it wet itself.
Disgusted, Green deftly sidestepped the creature and devoured the remaining nine.
Wang Yan was somewhat resigned as he crushed the fearful rodent underfoot.
The Rank 1 Star 3 wild dog, the Rank 1 Star 4 boar, and the Rank 1 Star 5 Fire Fox were all overwhelmed. They collapsed on the ground, trembling incessantly.
Green breezed through five challenges in an eerily effortless manner.
To Wang Yan, this seemed perfectly normal, yet the spectators were abuzz with speculation.
Accusations flew, condemning Wang Yan for cheating and Wang Guangyao for flouting the law.
"Silence!" Wang Guangyao's roar echoed, his Level 6 beast tamer authority radiating outward.
The crowd in the stands fell deathly silent at the sight of Wang Guangyao's fury.
Wang Guangyao, notorious as a formidable devil, was a Level 6 beast tamer known for his occasional slip-ups.
Once, an old lady tried to swindle him, and he berated her for two hours straight, leaving her so enraged she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.
Though he had mellowed with time, his inherent nature remained unchanged.
"The decision of whether there was cheating is mine to make. If you think you're capable, then challenge him," Wang Guangyao declared, pointing at the onlookers. Those he singled out bowed their heads, none daring to meet his gaze.
"Third Uncle, please, no more anger. I'll take care of what comes next," Wang Yan interjected with a sigh, his desire for a low profile thwarted.
"Very well," Wang Guangyao conceded, stepping back to yield the spotlight.
He was curious to see how his mild-mannered nephew would navigate the storm of criticism.
"It seems everyone is convinced I've cheated. Explaining myself would be futile," Wang Yan stated, prompting a fresh wave of murmurs from the crowd.
"So, you're admitting to cheating?" came a sultry voice from nearby. Wang Yan turned to see his former girlfriend, Lee Yijing, the 56th Miss of the Lee family.
The patriarch of the Lee family was blessed with a multitude of children.
Lee Yijing's eldest brother had already reached the ripe age of sixty, while her youngest sibling was still nursing.
Her romance with Wang Yan was nothing more than a ruse to pilfer the Wang family's trade secrets.
The Lees were a formidable clan, on par with the Wangs. They could have engaged in healthy competition.
Regrettably, the Lees resorted to deploying Lee Yijing to ensnare Wang Yan.
Wang Yan, disinterested in familial affairs, left Lee Yijing fruitless after six months of effort. She failed to procure any valuable intelligence.
In a fit of rage, Lee Yijing ended things with Wang Yan, maliciously spreading rumors of his impotence.
"When have you ever heard me confess?" Wang Yan retorted with a sneer, regarding Lee Yijing as if she were no more than a wild bird.
"Afraid to own up to your actions?" Lee Yijing's eyes flashed with scorn upon hearing Wang Yan's challenge.
Handsome he may be, but Wang Yan lacked in both physical and soul strength, and he showed no interest in mastering the art of business management.
"If I haven't done anything, why should I confess?" Wang Yan was dismissive, scanning the crowd before proclaiming, "If you're so convinced I'm lying, prove it. Defeat me with a spirit beast of Rank 2 or lower, and I'll concede to cheating."
"You're on!" Lee Yijing didn't hesitate, descending from the stands at Wang Yan's challenge.
Following their split, Wang Yan had sunk into a prolonged despondency.
Wang Yuanwen, his father, took notice and began to investigate. Upon discovering the Lee family's machinations, he launched a corporate onslaught, joining forces with Wang Yi to decimate the Lee family's top brass.
Had it not been for fear of gossip, the Lees would have been eradicated long ago.
Now, facing Wang Yan, Lee Yijing seethed with animosity.
"I'm not here to take advantage of you. Just endure three minutes, and I'll acknowledge your innocence," she declared, emphasizing the time limit. With a gesture, she summoned her spirit beast.
A pig appeared, its hide sheathed in a thick carapace of keratinous armor.
"It's a Rank 2, Star 3 Armored Wild Boar!"
The crowd buzzed with conversation upon witnessing the spirit beast Lee Yijing had summoned.
Even Wang Guangyao took notice, his expression turning grave.
The Armored Wild Boar was a beast of elite caliber, boasting formidable offensive and defensive capabilities, and known for its reckless abandon.
Beast tamers in the wild would prefer to face tigers or leopards rather than a wild boar, for the big cats would flee when hurt, while an injured boar would become frenzied.
Lee Yijing's intent in summoning the Armored Wild Boar was clear to all.
"With all eyes on him, Wang Yan can't back down. He's fresh out of school and no match for the Armored Wild Boar!"
Wang Guangyao weighed the option of dispatching Lee Yijing.
Years of scorn had left him indifferent to the infamy of picking on the weaker; his reputation was of little concern.
But the next turn of events caught Wang Guangyao off guard, and Lee Yijing was just as stunned.
The Armored Wild Boar suddenly prostrated itself and began inching towards Green.
"What's happening?" Lee Yijing's face was a mask of confusion.
Every battle had always ended with either the Armored Wild Boar or its adversary gravely wounded.
But what was this? The boar was lying down, tail wagging.
Lee Yijing couldn't halt the boar's peculiar behavior.
Lost in her bewilderment, the boar had already crept up to Green and affectionately nudged its tail with its snout.
Wang Yan sighed in resignation, his hand instinctively covering his face.
Green's round eyes glinted with contempt at the sight of the boar.
After a couple of calls from Green, the Armored Wild Boar sprang to its feet.
The sight cleared the fog of confusion from Lee Yijing's mind.
The Armored Wild Boar wouldn't just lie down to be attacked. It had to be feigning weakness, biding its time to strike lethally.
Though puzzled by the boar's sudden cunning, her current focus was solely on slaying that snake.
Lee Yijing had a solid plan, but the harshness of reality far exceeded her expectations.
Upon hearing Green's hiss, the Armored Wild Boar lifted its head high before violently slamming it into the ground.
A dull thud was accompanied by the crisp sound of snapping. Incredibly, the Armored Wild Boar had broken off its own fangs.
Wang Guangyao stared in disbelief at the sight of the boar.
The Armored Wild Boar was so frenzied it ignored even its master's commands.
What was happening?
It had broken its own fangs?
Weren't those fangs the Armored Wild Boar's most formidable weapon?
The whole scenario was utterly baffling.
The Armored Wild Boar then stood upright, and slowly, Green began to swallow it whole.
It was at that moment everyone grasped the truth.
The Armored Wild Boar had snapped its fangs to avoid injuring Green.
It stood up to facilitate Green's consumption of it.
Lee Yijing, terror-stricken, pointed at Wang Yan.
The Armored Wild Boar was dead.
The segment of Lee Yijing's Soul Contract tied to the Armored Wild Boar vanished, and she immediately suffered severe injuries, coughing up blood.
"You really are a glutton!"
Wang Yan paid no mind to the ashen-faced Lee Yijing. He affectionately stroked Green's smooth head, his voice dripping with fondness.
Green appeared bashful, coiling its tail around Wang Yan's leg and gently caressing it.
Witnessing the interaction between Wang Yan and Green, and realizing the Armored Wild Boar she had desperately bonded with was now dead, Lee Yijing was consumed by rage. She spat out another mouthful of blood and collapsed.
