C14 She Took in a Subordinate

Su Qingcheng's pink lips parted in shock, her eyes brimming with incredulity. When had Ye Tian become so utterly shameless? And since when was he so adept at planning his life? Was this really the Ye Tian she knew, or had something fundamentally changed about him?

Nevertheless, they soon arrived back home. Su Qingcheng wasted no time in gathering all her belongings, determined to take everything she could with her, and even the things she couldn't.

On the flip side, the landlord quickly caught wind of Su Qingcheng's plans to move out, which only elicited a sneer of contempt from him. "Humph, Su Qingcheng, I might have feared you in the past, but now, you're just pathetic. Dealing with you would be a piece of cake. Do you really think I'll let you move out so easily? Without you, who would I have left to torment?"

Meanwhile, a car sped towards Ye Tian's location, the driver's voice icy. "Su Jinyu, if you want a comfortable life, you'd better stay out of trouble. Cause me any more problems, and I'll make sure you regret it."

Su Jinyu, sitting in the passenger seat, gazed at Chiang Peng, utterly baffled by his transformation. He used to be so accommodating—what had made him turn so hostile all of a sudden?

But with Chiang Peng in a fury, she knew better than to provoke him further. One wrong word could escalate the situation, and she wasn't about to risk it.

Ye Tian, on the other hand, was in high spirits. His life had taken a dramatic turn for the better.

The doorbell rang, leaving Su Qingcheng bewildered. Who could it be? The only person who knew their address was the landlord, and they had already paid the rent. Curious, she peered through the peephole and was taken aback to see Chiang Peng and her sister, Su Jinyu, standing outside. Her face fell as she braced herself for what was to come.

Her expression turned to one of panic, and she urgently fixed her gaze on Ye Tian.

"Ye Tian, you need to run! My brother-in-law is out for revenge, and he's not someone to mess with right now. If he's come after you, he must be sure of himself. Hurry up and run!"

Ye Tian was immediately confused. Logically, Chiang Peng should have recovered from his illness by now. How was it possible for him to track him down? Ye Tian had already treated him once before.

Despite Su Qingcheng's protests, Ye Tian opened the door to find Chiang Peng wearing a sycophantic smile that he plastered across everyone's faces.

Su Qingcheng's heart skipped a beat. She felt that this time, they were truly doomed. The door was wide open, and there was no chance of escape.

Resigned to her fate, she closed her eyes, thinking that if death was inevitable, they would all face it together. No one was afraid.

This thought brought a sense of stoic acceptance, as if they had all dismissed the gravity of the situation before them, causing everyone to stare wide-eyed in disbelief.

The landlord, lurking in the shadows, couldn't help but feel elated. Chiang Peng was a well-known figure, and he recognized him.

Now that Chiang Peng had shown up, it was clear that Ye Tian had crossed someone formidable. The landlord saw an opportunity to squeeze out some more money.

With this in mind, the landlord gathered his courage, ready to make his move. But Chiang Peng, in a split second, knelt before Ye Tian.

"Mr. Ye Tian, I can't thank you enough for saving my life. Regarding my chronic condition, I'm hoping for your continued assistance. Su Jinyu caused trouble for my sister-in-law last time and didn't offer a sincere apology. This visit is to express my genuine remorse."

Ye Tian was taken aback for a moment before he gently shook his head and replied with a smile, "Look, we're going to have many more dealings in the future. Don't fret over this. Please, stand up. You've already shown great respect, and I assure you, I won't be looking for any trouble with you going forward."

Chiang Peng's face brightened with relief, but he could see that Ye Tian was not in the mood for visitors. With a sheepish retreat, he still cast a forlorn look towards Ye Tian.

Ye Tian was suddenly struck by a wave of confusion. He couldn't quite grasp what the man before him was trying to pull off. Why hadn't he said a word up to this point? He just knelt there, and Ye Tian certainly didn't possess the ability to read his mind.

With this realization, his forehead creased with frustration, and he gave Chiang Peng a gloomy look. "Chiang Peng, can't you act like a man? If you have something to say, just spit it out. No need to beat around the bush."

"I get that you want to tell me something. If that's the case, just come out with it. I promise I'll fulfill your request."

Ye Tian was at his wit's end with this guy, sneaking around instead of being upfront.

Seeing an opportunity, Chiang Peng's face brightened, though a fearful expression quickly followed. He glanced up at Ye Tian and managed a wry smile. "Mr. Ye Tian, do you... need a loyal follower? From now on, you're my big brother."

Ye Tian paused, taken aback, then it clicked. This guy was actually scared that Ye Tian wouldn't help him lift the curse he was under. So, he had resorted to this charade to ingratiate himself. Cunning indeed, but admittedly clever.

With a resigned nod and a wry smile, Ye Tian conceded, "Alright, enough talk. From now on, you're my little brother."
