C15 Old Classmate Wang Lili

Chiang Peng nodded urgently, seemingly afraid that Ye Tian might change his mind, and he quickly scampered off as if he were escaping.

"Well, big brother, if there's nothing else, I'll head out first!"

Su Qingcheng, who stood to the side, watched Chiang Peng dash away. She opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent.

"So... Ye Tian, did you just take on a little brother?"

Ye Tian nodded, giving Su Qingcheng a curious look. He couldn't quite grasp why she was so anxious. It was surprising, after all, that Chiang Peng, a man of considerable stature, had suddenly decided to become his subordinate.

Indeed, anyone would naturally feel a bit of nervousness in such a situation. It was entirely normal, though the suddenness added an extra layer of surprise.

Su Qingcheng had been eyeing Ye Tian as if he were some kind of specter. It was Chiang Peng, the imposing figure, who had now become a little brother. Wasn't that a bit too far-fetched?

"Ye Tian, are you keeping something from me? It seems a bit too easy to gain a little brother like this, doesn't it? Where do you find such willing subordinates?"

"You might as well come clean about this little brother situation. It would put my mind at ease. Otherwise, I just can't shake this feeling of unease."

Ye Tian's face contorted into an awkward grimace upon hearing this. He realized that without a plausible explanation, he wouldn't be able to smooth things over.

With a heavy heart and a wry smile, Ye Tian began, "Sigh, the truth is, this all stems from when I once perused the Ye family's medical annals. They clearly described a deadly toxin known as 'sky red,' notorious for its prolonged incubation period."

"I noticed Chiang Peng's symptoms were remarkably similar to those caused by the 'sky red' toxin. It's a dreadful affliction, and the records offered no cure."

"Chiang Peng, however, firmly believes that I can heal him, which is why he naturally started seeing me as his leader. After all, I represent his greatest hope for a cure."

After finishing his explanation, Ye Tian was overcome with a pang of distress. He remembered how his clandestine glance at the family records had led to false accusations of theft and his subsequent expulsion from the Ye family.

Ye Tian was well aware that his expulsion from the Ye family wasn't the real issue at hand. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to it than met the eye, a complexity that he had yet to unravel.

There were undoubtedly secrets lurking beneath the surface, secrets that he was determined to uncover. He couldn't accept being cast out without just cause.

The thought of it was humiliating. And without understanding the full picture, how could he face anyone in the future? This only fueled his growing anger.

Su Qingcheng, sensing the shift in Ye Tian's emotions, realized she might have broached a topic she shouldn't have. She understood the gravity of the situation and her heart swelled with gratitude, even as her mind reeled from the implications.

Finally, with a wry smile, she offered some consolation, "Alright, Ye Tian, there's no need to be so upset. I know you're dwelling on some unpleasant thoughts. The most important thing is to find your happiness again."

Ye Tian gave a slight nod, his previous discontent melting away in an instant. He had become adept at concealing his emotions, a necessary skill to avoid unexpected complications. In hindsight, his approach seemed quite prudent.

With a smile, he responded, "Alright, Ye Tian, you might be right, but I must admit, there's a lot of oddities here. Things are far from being as straightforward as one might think."

Ye Tian's smile was tinged with irony, acknowledging the truth in his own words. They seemed to resonate with a sense of correctness.

The doorbell rang—“Ding dong…”

Ye Tian hastened to the door, only to find the moving company had already arrived. Their promptness was impressive.

He quickly moved everything that could be taken upstairs and then drove off towards his new home, his speed noticeably quickening.

Meanwhile, Su Qingcheng felt as though she was living a dream. Somehow, Ye Tian had abruptly entered her life, and just as suddenly reappeared, turning her world upside down.

Lost in thought, a sweet smile crept across her face, rendering Su Qingcheng's expression irresistibly charming.

Ye Tian had just reached his destination and stepped out of the car when suddenly, a voice rang out beside them.

"Ah, isn't this our old classmate Su Qingcheng? Are you here visiting family?"

A woman with a seductive appearance and scantily clad sauntered up to Su Qingcheng, her eyes brimming with disdain.

Su Qingcheng had been quite popular in school, attracting numerous admirers while excelling academically and always under the protection of the skilled. She never paid much attention to her peers.

Because of this, she harbored a deep-seated resentment, and now that she had the opportunity to unleash it, there was no way she would pass it up.

Curiosity piqued, Su Qingcheng glanced over and recognized the classmate who rarely spoke up. Wasn't her name Wang Lili?

As Su Qingcheng was trying to make sense of the situation, Wang Lili seized the moment.

"Oh, Su Qingcheng, despite your academic prowess, it seems you're living quite a pitiful life now. These houses are so expensive; they're certainly out of your league."

"And this kid with you, dressed in tatters—how could he possibly be wealthy? You've had your share of wealthy admirers; how could you settle for someone like him? Honestly, Qingcheng, it seems like you're moving backward in life."

Ye Tian, standing nearby, wore a puzzled look. He couldn't help but feel that Wang Lili resembled someone's kept woman.

After all, Wang Lili's patron clearly didn't dare to bring her home, suggesting that perhaps this was just one of his external residences. A kept woman like her was unlikely to meet a favorable fate.
