C11 Brothers Get Moving!
All nine members of Battalion Three Class Ten were roused by Tang Hao and made to stand as punishment. The reason? Zhuge Yao had run off haphazardly, and unity was expected among class members—no one should break ranks.
Lei Xun grumbled internally, his sore behind now the least of his concerns. The idea was that the class should stick together, so why wasn't their class leader standing with them? Of course, these complaints remained in his head; voicing them was out of the question.
"I'm sorry, everyone. It's my fault for dragging you all into this mess. I shouldn't have been so rash," Zhuge Yao admitted to his classmates. In his past life, he was accustomed to going solo, chasing down enemies on sight. Reflecting on it now, he realized he should have consulted with the class leader first to avoid such a reactive situation.
The rest of the class bore no resentment. Since sleep eluded them, a bit of fresh air together wasn't so bad. Still, they were all intrigued about why Zhuge Yao had dashed off. Was there more to the story?
Curiosity is a natural instinct, and Xia Yan couldn't contain his any longer. He inquired, "Boss, what prompted you to run out in the dead of night?"
Before Zhuge Yao could respond, Lei Xun interjected, "With Young Master Yao's good looks, he was probably off charming the ladies. The rest of us can only dream of such adventures."
"Cut it out, Fatty. This was serious. I spotted a Devil Beast Man and went to check it out," Zhuge Yao cut in, eager to clarify. They were all from the same class, and since no Devil Beast Man was seen lurking around, he felt safe to share.
Zhuge Yao was astonished to discover that his eyesight had become incredibly sharp after an old shoulder injury flared up. He could now penetrate the Devil Beast Man's disguise. Even without the creature transforming, he could discern its true form through its outline.
Hearing this, Xia Yan's excitement was palpable. He eagerly looked at Zhuge Yao and exclaimed, "Boss, you're truly fearless. Let us join you for a glimpse tomorrow!"
The group of eight turned their attention to Zhuge Yao, eagerly awaiting his response. Feeling the weight of so many gazes, Zhuge Yao found it odd—it wasn't like he was haggling over vegetables at the market. He quickly nodded, his voice taking on a stern tone, "Alright, I'll take you to broaden your horizons. But you must promise to follow my commands to the letter."
Upon hearing they might witness a real Devil Beast Man, they unanimously agreed. Tang Hao had already gone to report to the Tank, harboring suspicions about Devil Beast Men infiltrating their ranks. Zhuge Yao's recent remarks had underscored the gravity of the situation. Whenever Devil Beast Man-related issues arose, the man who usually seemed like a drunken slob would vanish, replaced by a steadfast soldier.
"We don't need to wait until tomorrow. Let's depart now, especially since our squad leader is absent," Zhuge Yao mused. He was confident he could handle a Fox Woman on his own, but bringing along his classmates could help avert unforeseen mishaps—and it might make any potential reprimand more bearable.
Gongsun Yan, the refined gentleman who seemed more scholar than soldier, voiced his concern, "This might not be wise. You've already informed the squad leader, and the higher-ups are bound to take this seriously. We're just new recruits; we shouldn't interfere rashly."
His caution was met with disdain from the others. Xia Yan, feeling indignant on Gongsun Yan's behalf, countered, "That Fox Woman is too sly and hasn't left a trace of evidence. The Tank's staff won't take her seriously. And considering our squad leader's reputation as a drunkard, who's going to believe him?"
"Enough, let's not argue," Zhuge Yao cut in, decisively ending the dispute. "It's just a Fox Woman. However, to be safe, Zhang Fann will report to the squad leader while the rest of you come with me to the warehouse." His natural leadership, his Overlord Aura, shone through.
Zhang Fann nodded in agreement, his hands pressed together in respect, and then hurried off to the Tank to find the squad leader. The remaining eight sprang into action, heading to the warehouse with a sense of purpose, ready to gather various equipment and tools. Being part of the new mechanics class had its perks—they were close to the parts warehouse and, with little oversight, acquiring what they needed was a breeze.
After Tang Hao arrived at the Tank, he was met with complete indifference. No one would listen to him. Without any evidence to back his claims, he made a scene before leaving with a scowl on his face.
"Zhuge Yao, I know you're in there. Come out; I need to speak with you," Lee Xinru called out as she stood at the warehouse entrance, her voice echoing into the darkness.
Realizing he couldn't avoid the confrontation, Gongsun Yan, who had been on lookout, emerged from behind the door and whispered to Lee Xinru, "Comrade Xinru, we're both new recruits. Keep it down, or someone might overhear us."
"If Zhuge Yao doesn't come out, I'll start yelling. I urgently need to speak with him," Lee Xinru demanded, giving Gongsun Yan a stern look that made him back away in fear.
Just then, Zhuge Yao and his team of seven, laden with various equipment and tools, walked out of the warehouse. They were startled to see Lee Xinru there, wondering what had brought the young girl to them.
Lee Xinru couldn't help but find the sight of them, decked out with gear, utterly ridiculous. She questioned the reliability of these male soldiers, suspecting that Sister Xia Bing might have been pulling her leg.
"I didn't come on my own; Sister Xia Bing sent me to ask for your help," Lee Xinru admitted, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment, making her look incredibly endearing.
Before she could say more, Gongsun Yan made a sudden move from behind and knocked Lee Xinru unconscious. The group exchanged looks of disbelief. They hadn't known each other long, but Gongsun Yan's timid nature was no secret.
"What's there to gawk at? It's not funny; I just wanted to avoid any hassle," Gongsun Yan muttered, his cheeks reddening as he dragged Lee Xinru into the warehouse and concealed her with some fabric.
The eight of them approached the Female New Soldier Battalion and took cover in a nearby thicket to strategize. Xia Yan suggested scaling the wall and taking down anyone they encountered. But this wasn't a night raid on an enemy camp, and they all voiced their opposition to such a reckless plan.
With everyone at a loss for ideas, Zhuge Yao pondered for a moment before directing, "Gongsun Yan, take someone with you and shut off the main power switch at the Female New Soldier Battalion. Once you're done, make a run for it and meet back here with us. Go on."
Gongsun Yan nodded, slung a laptop over his shoulder, and set off with another person to locate the main power switch. He didn't boast about his other skills, but he was quite confident in cracking open a password box and flipping a power switch.
"Xia Yan, you and two others will hide in the bushes along the east wall. If anyone tries to scale the wall, don't hesitate—knock them out cold," Zhuge Yao continued with his instructions, a daring plan forming in his mind. If all went well, they might even reap some unexpected benefits.
Xia Yan also nodded, grabbed a pair of electric batons, and dashed toward the eastern perimeter with two others. The thought of the Devil Beast Man being taken down by his hand thrilled him, and he couldn't help but hum a tune under his breath as he ran.
Once everyone was in position, Zhuge Yao, Lei Xun, and another person tiptoed toward the Female New Soldier Battalion. Seizing a moment when the guards were distracted, they swiftly scaled the wall and slipped inside.
The night had deepened, and the Female Battalion lay in silence. Dormitory doors were shut tight, and the grounds were deserted. Only the barracks housing the long dormitory glowed with light. Inside, Xia Bing was in a heated discussion with another female officer, their conversation seemingly tense, bordering on an argument. Ever since Lee Xinru had mentioned Zhuge Yao's ability to unmask the Devil Beast Man, Xia Bing had been buzzing with excitement, hoping the platoon leader would lend her support.
