C19 Sisterinlaw Is Mighty!
Upon arriving at the camp, a stunning figure immediately caught their attention. Huang Wenwen had applied a touch of makeup and tied up her hair, wearing a pristine white dress that made her look absolutely radiant. Zhuge Yao found himself unable to look away.
"You're here," Wenwen said, encapsulating all her yearning in a few words.
"I'm fine," Zhuge Yao replied, echoing her sentiment of longing.
They stood there, silently gazing at each other for what seemed like an eternity, until Liu Jianfeng's deliberate cough snapped them out of their reverie. Wenwen gave a slight smile and handed Zhuge Yao a bag of fruit, saying, "Seeing you so full of life puts my mind at ease. I've transferred to work in the capital now, so I'll be able to visit you more often."
Zhuge Yao looked down at the apples in his hands, his favorite, and felt a surge of warmth. For the first time, he felt somewhat awkward in Wenwen's presence, unsure of what to say next.
"Why don't you take your wife for a tour around the barracks? It's not every day you get a visit; you can't just head back without seeing the place," Liu Jianfeng suggested, breaking the silence. He was accustomed to such scenes and didn't find them out of the ordinary.
"Yes, of course. Let's go. I'll introduce you to my comrades in my class," Zhuge Yao agreed eagerly, taking Wenwen's hand and leading her toward his class's dormitory.
Wenwen blushed at Liu Jianfeng's comment, her expression turning shy. The thought of being introduced to Zhuge Yao's friends filled her with joy, a privilege she hadn't experienced before.
As they walked, the soldiers cast curious glances their way, their faces etched with envy. Wang Kai, who was passing by with his troops, caught sight of Zhuge Yao with the lovely Wenwen and called out teasingly, "Yao, your wife has come to see you. Make sure you don't disappoint tonight."
Zhuge Yao responded with a smile and a playful jab, "Absolutely, Class Three Monitor. I'll make sure to uphold the honor of our class."
Hearing this, Wang Kai and the new recruits burst into laughter, nodding in approval before moving on. That's just the way it was in the military camp—good-natured ribbing was part of the camaraderie. It wasn't just harmless fun; it actually brought everyone closer together.
Zhuge Yao and Huang Wenwen arrived at the Class Three dormitory to find Zhang Fann the only one present. Noticing he was deep in meditation, they chose not to interrupt. Zhuge Yao discreetly stashed the apple away and then took Wenwen to the sports field in search of others. With the new Mecha just issued, excitement was in the air, and he figured his classmates were no exception.
As they walked past a crooked tree, they spotted a classmate who usually kept a low profile, Li Lingtong. He had an ordinary face, no standout skills, and an unremarkable background. However, after a few days, Zhuge Yao had come to realize that Li was exceptionally well-informed, which was indeed a unique talent.
Li Lingtong was engrossed in jotting down notes when Wenwen and Yao approached. He looked up, surprised by their presence. After a brief chat and introductions, they learned that the rest of the class was gathered in the warehouse.
Wenwen, driven by curiosity, whispered to Yao once they were alone, "Your classmates are so odd. It seems like there's not a single ordinary one among them."
Yao patted his chest with pride and boasted, "Well, who do you think I am? My classmates are far from ordinary; they're all top-notch."
Wenwen smiled and nodded in agreement, clearly impressed by his confidence.
Yao felt a blush creep up his cheeks at her reaction. He had perhaps oversold it, but it was harmless—no one else had overheard.
It was Wenwen's first visit to the military barracks, and she was fascinated by the architecture and equipment. She eagerly took in the sights and peppered Yao with questions. He gladly played the role of tour guide, explaining everything with care. Their sweet demeanor drew envious glances from the surrounding soldiers.
Upon reaching Battalion Three's warehouse, Lei Xun spotted them and came out to greet Wenwen warmly. Since the two were already acquainted, Yao skipped the pleasantries and led Wenwen inside.
Lei Xun behaved himself this time around. Though his eyes still sparkled when he glanced at Wenwen, he refrained from showing too much interest out of respect for Yao's presence.
Several students in the class, Tang Hao among them, were busy modifying their Mechas. Noticing that no one was paying attention to them, Zhuge Yao and Huang Wenwen approached Qiu Heizi to see what he was up to.
Qiu Heizi was intently studying a Mecha blueprint with a pencil clenched between his teeth, deep in thought. While a novice might just enjoy the spectacle, Huang Wenwen was an expert and quickly discerned the intent behind the Mecha design.
After a brief moment of contemplation, Huang Wenwen offered Qiu Heizi some advice: "If you're looking to boost the Mecha's mobility and can't upgrade the engine, you might want to rethink the Mecha's aerodynamic design."
Qiu Heizi was perplexed. While he excelled at Mecha repairs and understood blueprints, redesigning them was another story. Seeing his confusion, Huang Wenwen took the blueprint from him and began making modifications. In no time at all, she handed back a vastly improved design.
Still doubtful, Qiu Heizi scanned the new blueprint into his computer. Astonished by the scan results, he couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, just a few tweaks and the speed has increased so dramatically—it's incredible!"
It was only then that Qiu Heizi noticed Zhuge Yao standing next to someone unfamiliar. He turned and exclaimed with surprise, "Are you his sister-in-law? You're incredible! What's the deal with this streamlined design?"
Blushing, Huang Wenwen softly corrected him, "I'm not a sister-in-law; we're just friends, honestly. The streamlined design is tied to aerodynamics. Just a heads up, though: while the Mecha's speed will be greater, it'll also be tougher to handle."
"That's not an issue," Qiu Heizi confidently replied. "I'll just practice more and get stronger. I've been stuck on this problem for ages with no solution in sight. You're amazing, sister-in-law—just a simple tweak to the design and the problem's solved. I can't thank you enough." Qiu Heizi expressed his gratitude earnestly, thinking to himself that if Huang Wenwen weren't a woman, he might have even given her a celebratory hug.
Everyone in the warehouse was drawn to Qiu Heizi's startled exclamations. When they saw Zhuge Yao walk in with a stunning woman, they all paused and converged around the pair. While the New Soldier Battalion did include women, the male and female recruits typically trained separately, and none of the women were quite as striking as this one. It almost seemed as if the female soldiers had all been cast from the same mold.
"Hello, sister-in-law, not bad at all. I've got my eye on you," Tang Hao said as he approached to greet her. His words, though, were a bit odd, and his tone excessively stern.
"You're absolutely gorgeous, sister-in-law," Xia Yan chimed in as he too stepped forward to greet her, enthusiastically shaking hands with Huang Wenwen.
Zhuge Yao, sensing the situation, became protective and quickly positioned himself in front of Huang Wenwen to keep the others at bay. He silently vowed, "You're trying to take liberties with my fiancée? Not on my watch. Haven't you noticed her guardian is right here?"
