C4 A Confrontation with the Wolfman
"Whoosh!" Another sound pierced the sky as a black bird helicopter swiftly passed overhead, dropping four metal boxes.
Barbarian Ox No.6 was unarmed, leaving Zhuge Yao helplessly watching the parachutes descend and settle amidst the hotel ruins.
"Hey, you guys up there, is the electromagnetic Rapid Fire Cannon on the helicopter just for show? Those are enemy airdrop supply boxes; just destroy them!" Zhuge Yao angrily demanded over the comm link, wishing he could pelt them with stones to bring them down.
Di Renjie on the armed helicopter was equally frustrated. Without clearance from his superiors, no one would dare to fire recklessly in the city and risk a military tribunal. He chose to ignore Zhuge Yao's transmission, directing the helicopters to circle the hotel ruins. Perhaps feeling a twinge of guilt for leaving a civilian to face a formidable enemy, he locked onto Barbarian Ox No.6's position and dropped an airdrop box.
Realizing he couldn't rely on the Antiterrorist, Zhuge Yao activated Barbarian Ox No.6's satellite communication system and reached out to the Zhuge family's airdrop service command center in Saint Steel City.
The building appeared to be an imposing steel fortress, but inside it was merely a logistics command center serving the whole Dawn Empire. Inside the General Manager's office, a young, chubby man was frolicking with several young women.
"Lei Xun, get out here! I'm in deep trouble today," Zhuge Yao bellowed at the screen, feeling a sense of powerlessness seeing his childhood friend neglecting his duties for flirting.
Zhuge Yao's projection suddenly materialized beside Lei Xun, startling him and the women. Lei Xun quickly straightened up and responded, "Boss, you seem like a changed man; I've never seen you this fierce. Uh, what kind of gear do you need this time?"
"Send me two Universal Level Assault No.66s and a laser equipment set to my current location," Zhuge Yao urgently requested. There was no time to lose; if he delayed any longer, the werewolves might soon be upon him.
Lei Xun hesitated briefly, aware that he was dealing with military equipment. What was he getting himself into? But he quickly nodded in agreement, reassured by the thought that he had the backing of the elder in the higher-ups. Nothing too serious could go wrong. He tapped several times on the command panel before him and then informed, "The delivery is on its way. After supercomputer calculations, the cargo has been dispatched from the Dawn City sky base and will arrive in three minutes."
Three minutes was an eternity under the circumstances; even one minute was a challenge. Zhuge Yao clenched his teeth, piloted Barbarian Ox No.6, and opened the supply box dropped by the armed helicopter. He grabbed a Magnetic Oscillation Blade from inside and charged at the three werewolves, yelling, "All or nothing!"
Zhuge Yao had already gathered some information through three-dimensional imaging. The enemy had dropped skin-hardening liquid, the purpose of which was clear from its name.
Barbarian Ox No.6, a heavy-duty Mecha, charged with the force of a true Barbarian Ox. The werewolves had just finished injecting the skin-hardening liquid when they were suddenly knocked away, sparks flying amidst the rubble.
As the dust settled, Zhuge Yao saw the three werewolves rise from the ground, seemingly unharmed, and charge at him again. He swung the Magnetic Oscillation Blade desperately, trying to fend off the advancing enemies.
But the skin-hardening liquid made them impervious to the blade's edge; it merely sparked upon impact. Not only did the attack fail to repel them, but the werewolves also managed to bite several large holes into the Mecha's armor.
With the cockpit blaring alarms and options running out, Zhuge Yao resorted to Barbarian Ox No.6's last resort. He slammed the sole yellow button, cranking the power up to maximum and pushing the Mecha into an overloaded state.
Barbarian Ox No.6, already boasting a strength of 120, surged to a staggering 150 in its overloaded condition. With a mere jolt, it flung the three werewolves away. It was at that moment that three metal boxes plummeted from the sky, landing solidly next to Barbarian Ox No.6.
"Just in time. Assault No.66, prepare to fire at the werewolf ahead. Authorize the connection of the Laser Gun. Barbarian Ox No.6, stow the Magnetic Oscillation Blade and get ready to shoot," Zhuge Yao commanded as the shipment arrived, issuing several orders within seconds.
The werewolves, quick to react, noticed the three Mechas gearing up to fire and each targeted one, charging at them once more. However, they had ingested a potion that hardened their skin, doubling their strength but halving their speed, rendering them unable to intervene in time.
"Boom!" The three Mechas fired simultaneously, taking down a werewolf with each shot, leaving nothing behind.
"Oh! Yeah! We've won!" The police and firefighters erupted into cheers upon seeing the werewolves vanquished.
"At last, it's over. The kid did a good job; I'll remember that," Di Renjie said, wiping the sweat from his brow as he joined the exuberant crowd, his voice booming louder than the rest. As for the question of why the other party had military-grade Mechas, did it really matter? Surely it was a fellow soldier.
Zhuge Yao also breathed a sigh of relief, looking down at Huang Wenwen, who was still unconscious in his arms, and shook his head with a sense of resignation. As he relaxed, the pain in his arm grew sharply more distinct and severe.
After retrieving an antiviral serum from the Mecha's medical box and injecting it into his arm, the pain subsided. Watching the dark discoloration fade, he felt somewhat at ease, though he remained concerned about potential lingering effects.
"Beep, beep." The cockpit of Barbarian Ox No.6 was abuzz with incoming communication requests that had been persistent throughout the battle. Zhuge Yao hadn't been able to answer them earlier. Activating the projection call, he was greeted by a middle-aged man who bore a striking resemblance to himself.
"Zhuge Yi, what brings you to call me? Do you need me to repair Mechas in the army again?" Zhuge Yao asked, his tone laced with irritation. The last time, this very man had lured him into the army to repair Mechas for a month under the guise of experiencing military life, a thought that still irked him.
"You little rascal, you should be calling me Dad, or at least 'handsome' if nothing else," the middle-aged man in the projection said with a firm expression, his tone neither warm nor cold.
A firework burst into the sky above Dawn City, standing out vividly against the quiet twilight. Shortly thereafter, over a hundred fires ignited, illuminating the entire city.
"This isn't good. There are so many enemies. I must hurry and pursue them to prevent further harm to the innocent!" Zhuge Yao disregarded Zhuge Yi and piloted the Barbarian Ox No.6 towards the nearest incident. He couldn't afford to back down now that he had encountered them.
"Stop, stop. I've already deployed people to apprehend those causing havoc in the city. But there's another urgent issue. I've sent the details to your email. Once you've joined the Dragon Knight Recruit Company, make sure to check it," Zhuge Yi called out to his beloved son, speaking with a mysterious smile brimming with expectation.
