C5 Medicine

That old man!

Chu Chenglong couldn't help but exclaim internally. What on earth was the old man up to?

Without so much as a word of warning, he'd gone and picked out a wife for him.

Was he concerned that he'd struggle to find a spouse after his release from prison?

Yet, it must be said, the old man's taste was impeccable.

Wang Yunuo, in his eyes, was quite the beauty!

Still, he hadn't made up his mind about the marriage.

He was open to the idea.

But his father had to be there in person!

So, until he found his father...

He refused to tie the knot!

That was the least he could do to honor his father!

"Hello? Why are you zoning out?"

Wang Yunuo began to question whether her grandfather's decision had been the right one.

At the moment, she didn't think the man before her measured up to her standards.

"Anyway, now that you're here, follow me inside. And once we're in, keep it down; my grandfather is dealing with something very important."

With that, Wang Yunuo strode off.

Chu Chenglong quickly followed her into the sanatorium, pressing her, "What's the rush? Is your grandfather Wang Shichong?"

A secretary at Wang Yunuo's side glinted with sharpness at the question.

"You've got some nerve, addressing Mr. Wang by his full name. Miss Wang, would you like me to shut him up?"

Wang Yunuo shook her head.

For some reason, she couldn't bring herself to be too harsh with this man at the moment.

"By the way, what's your name? I'm Wang Yunuo."

"Chu Chenglong."

Wang Yunuo nodded, "Fine, wait for me in the outer hall. I'll go upstairs to handle things. If you get tired, there's a guest room in the back where you can sleep, but don't come upstairs."

Upstairs?

Chu Chenglong pondered.

He had sensed a foul energy emanating from the upper floor as soon as he had entered the sanatorium.

It seemed likely that Wang Shichong, the man his master had sent him to assist, was up there.

The old man's intentions must have been for him to lend a hand.

The engagement and this task were probably connected.

In the upstairs ward.

A myriad of high-precision instruments were in constant operation, ticking and whirring without pause. More than a dozen experts in white lab coats intently monitored the readouts at all times. On the hospital bed lay an elderly man in his seventies, his eyes tightly closed, his face obscured by an oxygen mask. Standing solemnly beside the bed, a square-faced middle-aged man held several slender silver needles.

"Guo Wei, how is my grandfather doing now?" Wang Yunuo asked with immediate concern upon entering the ward.

The middle-aged man with the square face let out a relieved smile and responded, "The old gentleman is quite fortunate. His condition should improve with just a few needles."

"That's wonderful!" Wang Yunuo exclaimed, visibly relieved.

She watched as Guo Wei, with a silver needle in hand, carefully aimed for the old man's temple. Abruptly, a dark figure appeared at the entrance of the ward, and a calm voice echoed, "If you proceed with that, you might just end the old man's life."

"Who's there!?" Wang Yunuo and Guo Wei were startled.

Guo Wei's hand, poised to insert the needle, shook, and he was suddenly covered in a cold sweat. He glared at Chu Chenglong, fuming with anger, "You fool! You nearly caused a catastrophe! Could you handle the consequences if something went wrong?"

Wang Yunuo's expression soured as well. "Didn't I tell you to wait downstairs? Who let you in?" She had seen Guo Wei's near miss. Had he not maintained his composure, the needle could have easily gone astray, leading to dire consequences.

"I came up here to save a life. What else would I be doing?" Chu Chenglong replied coolly.

"Ridiculous! With Guo Wei here, what need do we have for you? Do you fancy your medical skills superior to his?" Wang Yunuo's secretary spoke up disdainfully, "Miss, please let me throw this ignorant fool out. I'll make sure he won't walk away on his own legs!"

Before Wang Yunuo could respond, Guo Wei's urgent voice cut through the tension. "Enough with the noise, we can't delay any longer!"

The ward fell silent once more. Guo Wei steadied his hand, picked up the silver needle, and prepared to proceed with the treatment.

Chu Chenglong's hand trembled suddenly, sending an imperceptible energy straight into Wang Shichong's brain. Guo Wei then proceeded with the acupuncture. After a series of fluid motions, he took a slow, deep breath.

"Phew! That should do it."

"Now, the old master just needs to rest and recuperate. In no more than a month, he'll be back to his peak condition!"

As he concluded, the doctor in the white coat, who had been intently monitoring the instruments, couldn't contain his excitement.

"It's done! He's really better!"

"My God! The medical expertise from Chigoris is nothing short of miraculous!"

"This is a miracle!"

Wang Yunuo, who had been waiting anxiously, couldn't hide her excitement.

"Guo Wei, when will my grandfather awaken?"

Without glancing up, Guo Wei continued to organize his silver needles and replied nonchalantly, "Any moment now."

His masterful presence was unmistakable.

True to his word, the elderly man on the bed slowly opened his eyes. The ward instantly buzzed with excitement.

"Hahaha, I told you Guo Wei's medical prowess was unmatched. How ridiculous for someone to doubt him!"

Wang Yunuo's secretary seized the chance to mock Chu Chenglong, a seemingly insignificant character who had appeared out of nowhere, too naive to understand his place. Today, he would be taught a lesson in humility!

However, as the old man's eyes opened, the first face they sought was Chu Chenglong's, a stranger to him. A flicker of doubt crossed his clouded eyes.

"Who is this...?" he asked weakly.

"Grandfather, please don't speak just yet. Allow me to explain," Wang Yunuo interjected, placing a jade pendant into the old man's hand.

The moment he grasped the pendant, his eyes widened with excitement, and he eagerly beckoned to Chu Chenglong. "Young man, come closer, let me have a good look at you!"

Chu Chenglong stepped forward without hesitation.

After a thorough examination, the old man's joy was unmistakable. He couldn't stop smiling and laughing. "Good, good! Hahaha, that old rascal didn't deceive me after all. He really has sent my grandson-in-law to me!"

Upon hearing the old man's words, everyone in the hospital room, except for Wang Yunuo, was taken aback.

Guo Wei, the pharmacist, and Wang Yunuo's secretary, in particular, wore expressions of sheer disbelief.

This young man, who seemed so naive about the ways of the world, was Wang Shichong's grandson-in-law? How could that be possible!

Wang Shichong, a man of considerable experience, noticed the ward's occupants appeared to have reservations about Chu Chenglong. He immediately questioned Chu Chenglong.

"Grandfather, I tried to stop this pharmacist from treating you earlier, but I couldn't prevent him," Chu Chenglong said with a sigh.

Wang Shichong found this odd upon hearing it. He felt perfectly healthy, with no apparent issues. Clearly, Guo Wei had successfully treated him. He had always respected Guo Wei's medical expertise; otherwise, he wouldn't have appointed him as his personal pharmacist. But why had Chu Chenglong intended to stop Guo Wei from treating him?

As he pondered this, Wang Shichong suddenly felt an excruciating pain in his chest and let out a loud, agonized roar.
