C3 Virus Outbreak!
"Don't go over there!"
Lee Feng's grip on the flight attendant's wrist was sudden and firm. Had he not intervened earlier, she would have already fallen victim to a zombie's bite. Yet, here she was, unwittingly moving toward danger.
In any other context, he might have accused her of recklessly endangering herself. Another bite, and where would he claim his mission reward?
"Let go of me!" Yu Dulin demanded, struggling with frustration. But her strength was no match for Lee Feng, who possessed the might of three ordinary men.
As moments slipped by, the last vestiges of clarity in the girl's mind vanished.
A twisted, bloodthirsty smile curled her lips, and strands of silver hair cascaded down.
In the next instant, the scene took an unexpected turn.
The frail girl, who had seemed so delicate before, pounced on a middle-aged spectator like a ferocious tiger.
Her jaws clamped down viciously on the man's neck.
"Ah, ah, release me, let go!" The middle-aged man's cries of agony filled the air as he desperately tried to fend her off.
Oddly enough, under normal circumstances, he could have easily pushed the girl aside, but now, he was powerless.
The girl clung to him in a frenzy, her teeth sunk deep into his flesh, emitting guttural growls akin to a wild beast.
[Oh my God!]
[What is she doing? She's actually eating someone!]
The horror of the revelation sent a shockwave through the onlookers in the carriage.
Several nearby students sprang to their feet, dashing toward the rear of the carriage, eager to escape the nightmare unfolding before them.
Yu Dulin ceased her struggle against Lee Feng's hold, hastily grabbing her walkie-talkie to call for help:
"Manager, manager, there's been a violent incident in Coach 11!"
"Manager, manager!"
Their cries roused Rong Guo, who had been sitting ahead of Lee Feng.
He yanked off his headphones, flung his hat aside, and leaped from his seat, rushing to aid the middle-aged man in his struggle against the zombie girl's relentless attack.
"Let go, let go, you're going to kill him!" he shouted.
But no matter how fiercely they fought, they couldn't pry the girl away.
Beside him stood another man in black, equally driven by a sense of justice. Observing Rong Guo step in to assist, he too quickly rose to the occasion.
Together, they managed to move the zombie girl aside, but they failed to notice the middle-aged man who had been bitten on the neck, now lying powerless and twitching on the ground.
It might have been the wind, or perhaps not.
As they parted the hair of the zombie girl, her face was revealed.
What a visage it was!
Before them was a ghastly face marred by twisted lesions of decay, her eyes a dull grey, devoid of focus. Yet, in those eyes, one could sense a ravenous longing.
A mad craving for the living, for blood!
Her mouth, smeared with blood and flecked with fresh bits of flesh, emitted roars that chilled the bone.
The sight left both Rong Guo and the man in black dumbfounded, and a hush fell over the entire train car.
In that brief lapse of concentration, disaster struck.
The zombie girl, seizing the moment of distraction, sunk her teeth into the man in black's hand.
Overcome by the searing pain, he released his grip.
How could Rong Guo alone restrain the zombie girl?
In an instant, she broke free and pounced on the bitten man in black, ferociously aiming for his neck.
"Damn, that's intense!"
From a distance, Li Feng watched in horror. In his brief moment of shock, two more had been bitten.
The visceral impact of witnessing such a scene in person was nothing like watching a movie at home.
Snapping back to reality, Li Feng shouted to Yu Dulin and the others, "Get to the back car!"
With that, he sprinted forward, grabbing the still-dazed Rong Guo, and they both headed towards the rear.
The first middle-aged man bitten had already succumbed to the infection, his body convulsing as he rose in a grotesque motion and lunged at a nearby woman with limited mobility.
"Ahhhh! Let go of me!!"
Her screams and struggles were futile against the overwhelming force.
"Damn it, run!"
Returning from his rescue attempt, Li Feng's frustration boiled over as he saw Yu Dulin standing there, seemingly petrified with fear.
This woman typically exuded a sense of dignity and elegance, yet in crucial moments, she became impassive as stone.
"Hey, wait a minute, System, where's my mission reward?"
Li Feng, as if suddenly remembering something, urgently inquired within his mind.
[Does this system really need to be prompted by me to acknowledge its duties?]
[Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have completed the mission: Rescue Yu Dulin. Your reward is the Hundred Refined Head Cutter.]
"Nice, that's the way to do it, System."
In this world that resembled the apocalypse, surviving was a formidable challenge. To Li Feng, receiving a handy weapon was far more valuable than any martial arts secrets or wealth.
"System, how do I retrieve it?"
Li Feng couldn't help but wonder internally. The reward was issued, but the logistics of retrieving it posed a new challenge. It would be quite the spectacle if it just materialized in his hand.
Rest assured, Host. The system has placed the Head Cutter on the luggage rack above your seat.
"Got it."
Li Feng hurried to his seat, grabbed a long cloth-wrapped package from the luggage rack, and, taking Yu Dulin by the hand, dashed toward the rear of the train.
Rong Guo, with Zhenxi in tow, chased after Li Feng, calling out as they ran:
"Run, head to the back of the train!"
The students, shaken from their stupor, quickly joined the flight. As fear spread, they desperately wished for the speed of extra legs.
Run!
Run for their lives!
Yet, some looked on with disdain.
The more audacious among the passengers, along with those who enjoyed a spectacle, remained unmoved. Some even pushed forward.
They stood, engrossed in the sight of the bitten victims, their faces flickering with curiosity and a hint of malicious delight.
But their amusement was short-lived as they noticed something amiss. The bitten individuals staggered to their feet and lunged at the nearest people.
Biting hands, necks, bodies—wherever they were bitten, it wasn't long before they turned into something akin to the earlier girl.
Fear, pandemonium!
Only then did the thought of escape cross their minds.
But by then, it was far too late. Amidst screams and cries, the virus spread like wildfire.
