C15 The Scolding of the Motherinlaw!
Upon noticing the crowd around him, Gu Feng swiftly donned the hood of his jacket and uttered coldly, "What are you staring at?" He then made a quick exit from the KTV.
The spectators, having witnessed the departure of the enigmatic individual, reluctantly dispersed back to their respective private rooms. Yet, their curiosity remained unabated, with some going so far as to employ private detectives to uncover the identity of the mysterious person. They were eager to establish a connection, hoping it might lead to a business collaboration with the prestigious Lin family—a partnership they had long coveted. After all, in Plodon, there was a well-known adage: those who align with the Lin family are destined for wealth or distinction. The prospect of becoming affluent or esteemed through association with the Lin family was tantalizing.
Unbeknownst to them, the person of interest was none other than Lin Han, the scion of the Lin family. Had they known, they surely would have swarmed him, vying for his favor.
Lin Han left the KTV and headed straight for the Lee family home, concerned about Lin Kexin's twisted ankle. He was determined to check on her injury and discuss her schedule to see if she had any plans.
Arriving just in time for dinner at the Lee household, Lin Han was met with a stern look from his mother-in-law. "So you've decided to come back? Kexin has injured her foot, and instead of caring for her, you're out and about. What could possibly be more important?"
"Your responsibility is to look after Kexin. If you can't manage that, I can't fathom what she saw in you," she scolded.
With a nonchalant smile, Lin Han quipped, "As to why your daughter chose someone like me, that's a question for her, isn't it? Since it's dinner time, I'll help myself."
However, the Lee family had not saved him a seat, nor had they set aside a bowl for him.
Lin Han was indifferent as he fetched himself a bowl from the kitchen and sat down to eat heartily.
His mother-in-law huffed and shot him a glare but refrained from further comment.
Seating himself next to Lin Kexin, Lin Han served her a chicken wing and inquired in a relaxed tone, "How's your foot? Feeling any better?"
After nibbling on the chicken wing, Lin Kexin replied softly, "Much better, it hardly hurts now. Where were you this afternoon?"
"I was at the internet cafe playing games," Lin Han responded nonchalantly.
His mother-in-law glared at him once more, "What kind of spineless man is he to go anywhere? I can't fathom how you could be so blind as to fall for such a worthless man. He's a grown man with no skills whatsoever. Kexin, I'm telling you, you should divorce him as soon as possible!"
Lin Kexin gently pulled at her mother-in-law's sleeve, "Mom, let's not talk about this now. Let's just eat."
Her mother-in-law fell silent, yet she continued to steal glances at Lin Han.
Since the day he joined the family, Lin Han had grown accustomed to this treatment and no longer wished to engage in any squabbles with them.
Across from Lin Han sat his peculiar aunt, who was also glaring daggers at him. He had put her in her place earlier that afternoon.
He knew this formidable aunt would likely harbor resentment and be a source of trouble for him in the future.
Lin Han gave his aunt a forced smile.
She rolled her eyes at him, probably still mindful of the afternoon's events, and chose not to say more.
On any other day, she would have certainly given him an earful.
After dinner, Lin Han assisted Lin Kexin into his room and handed her the Chepapp Group chairman's schedule.
"What's this?" Lin Kexin asked, looking puzzled.
"Just take a look, and you'll understand," he encouraged.
Lin Kexin opened the document and gasped in disbelief. It was the chairman of the Chepapp Group's schedule, a closely guarded secret known only to the chairman's secretary and those closest to him. Even company insiders wouldn't be privy to such detailed information.
Lin Kexin gave Lin Han an incredulous look.
"How on earth do you have such a detailed schedule for Chepapp?"
Lin Han offered a faint smile, idly scratching his head as he spoke.
"A buddy of mine hooked me up. His sister is the secretary to the chairman of the Chepapp Group. I asked him for a favor, and he really came through. I was at the internet cafe this afternoon when he sent me the info."
Lin Kexin, still doubtful, gave him another glance.
"Is that so?"
Lin Han scratched his head once more.
"Absolutely. Where else would I get such detailed information? It was actually quite lucky. I remembered his sister worked at Chepapp Group from when we used to hang out. So, I called him this morning to confirm it, and sure enough, she does. My friend really came through for me, getting everything done right away."
Despite her lingering doubts, Lin Kexin considered it and conceded that it must be true.
After all, Lin Han was just a small-time thug; he wouldn't have connections with the bigwigs of the Chepapp Group.
Nor would he have access to such detailed information about the chairman of the Chepapp Group.
He must have gotten it through his roughneck pals.
"Your friend is really solid. Make sure to throw some cash his way once this is all over."
Lin Kexin wasn't stingy.
Especially since this was about her chance to become the general manager of the company.
If she did end up securing the position, she would be more than willing to reward him handsomely.
"I know, but let's set that aside for now and focus on what we need to do next," Gu Feng interjected, deftly steering the conversation away.
He didn't want to press the issue further and risk Lin Kexin spotting any inconsistencies.
Lin Kexin took another look at the documents and began to outline their plan.
"He jogs at Lake and Sea Park every morning at seven. We'll be there waiting for him tomorrow. I've nearly finished preparing; I'll pull an all-nighter if I have to, so we're ready to meet him the day after tomorrow."
Lin Han nodded in agreement.
Yet, deep down, he harbored some concerns. Even if they managed to encounter the chairman of such a major corporation, there was no guarantee they'd be granted an opportunity.
At this point, he had no choice but to make the best of a bad situation.
A radiant smile spread across Lin Kexin's face, one that Lin Han had never witnessed before.
Lin Kexin probably believed she had this in the bag.
Then, out of the blue, Lin Kexin's phone rang—it was her secretary on the line.
"Why would your secretary call me at this hour? I wonder what it could be about."
Lin Kexin casually answered the phone, speaking into the receiver.
