C21 The Consequences!
After receiving the call, Lin Kexin immediately rushed to the scene. Once there, she quickly signed the necessary documents and walked out of the police station with Lin Han. Stepping outside, Lin Kexin couldn't contain her frustration any longer.
"This is the second time now. I had barely smoothed things over from the last incident, and here you are, causing another scene. It's embarrassing enough for you; don't drag me into it," she scolded.
Lin Han hadn't anticipated the situation escalating to this extent. Had he known, he would have given the police Lin Feijie's number. It was unexpected that the officers didn't ask him directly and instead looked into his connections. Perhaps Lee Feng had mentioned something during his visit. The whole ordeal was incredibly embarrassing for Lin Han.
Indeed, he had troubled Lin Kexin for the second time today. The issue with the hotel manager had only just been resolved, and now this had happened. He dreaded to think what the press would say if they got wind of the story; they'd likely spin it into some salacious gossip.
Lin Han was filled with regret over his rash actions, but in the heat of the moment, he felt any man might have reacted similarly.
Upon returning home, Lin Kexin didn't go straight to her room as the doctor had advised. Instead, Lin Han had no choice but to call Lin Feijie to handle the fallout, ensuring that by the next day, there would be no news of the incident. Lin Han trusted in Lin Feijie's ability to manage the situation effectively.
Later, around five o'clock, she finished preparing dinner and knocked on his door, inviting him to join her. Lin Han was reluctant to go downstairs, fearing another tirade from his mother-in-law. What excuse would she find this time to berate him? Nevertheless, he decided to face the music.
No sooner had he descended the stairs than his mother-in-law launched into a scathing lecture. "I don't even know what to say to you anymore! The police called you in today. Can't you go one day without causing Kexin trouble? Are you only happy when you're making her life difficult? If you cause even the slightest issue for Kexin at the board meeting, I'll have her divorce you. Is it so hard to stay out of trouble and remain at home for a few days?"
"How could he possibly stay at home?" she continued, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "All those beauties outside are just waiting for him."
Lee Kerong strode confidently out of her room.
Lin Han's gaze lingered on Lin Kexin, who sat silently, not uttering a single word. It was clear to Lin Han that she was preoccupied with concerns about the following day's events.
If the reporters were to break the story tomorrow, even if she had signed a contract with the chairman of the conglomerate, the matriarch would never allow her to assume the role of general manager. She would undoubtedly use this as a pretext to reject him.
"Kexin, just look at him. He doesn't even bother to call his mother anymore. He completely ignores me when I speak. I truly can't fathom why you married such a spineless man," her mother-in-law exclaimed, slamming down her chopsticks in frustration.
Lee Kerong, who thrived on chaos, couldn't help but stir the pot. "Sis, you better watch out. Your husband might be keeping a mistress on the side. You'll be the one crying when it comes out!"
"Is it impossible for you to keep quiet while eating? I'm trying to have a peaceful meal," Lin Kexin retorted, clearly annoyed with Lee Kerong.
"Okay, I get it. I'll stop talking. But there's something else I need to tell you. Brother Yang Jun is back. I ran into him on the street today," Lee Kerong said, casting a provocative glance at Lin Han.
Lin Han remained silent, simply taking a bite of his food.
"What's his return got to do with me?" Lin Kexin replied, her face betraying her discomfort.
"Sis, have you already met him? Is that why you're in such a foul mood today? Let me tell you, Brother Yang Jun is looking better than ever. His style has completely changed. He must be successful now, which is why he's returned. Aren't you regretting marrying this loser?" Lee Kerong asked bluntly, pointing at Lin Han.
"Kerong, stop talking nonsense. I'm married to your brother-in-law now, and that's that. Let's not dredge up the past. Just eat your meal and then get on with your studies," Lin Kexin interjected, trying to steer the conversation away.
However, Lee Kerong, ever the provocateur, was not one to hold her tongue. "Sis, with Brother Yang Jun back, what are you waiting for? Dump this deadbeat and start a new life with Brother Yang Jun!"
As soon as Lee Kerong finished speaking, her mother-in-law chimed in.
"Your sister is absolutely right. Divorce that good-for-nothing quickly and get together with Yang Jun. Then, we can all rest easy."
She said this with a stern glare directed at Lin Han.
Lin Han was visibly annoyed and on the verge of a comeback when Lin Kexin interjected.
"Enough, let's drop this subject. I'm full and heading back now. You all take your time."
With that, Lin Kexin turned and left the room.
Following her departure, the mother-in-law also excused herself and left.
Lee Kerong's boldness grew in the absence of Lin Kexin and her mother-in-law.
"You're such a wimp. I can't believe you didn't respond when I insulted you right in front of my sister. It's no wonder she doesn't think highly of you. I doubt any woman would. It's just pitiful."
Lin Han put on a mischievous grin and replied cheerfully,
"I was too busy enjoying the view! I didn't catch what you were saying. Care to repeat it?"
"Are you out of your mind? What scenery are you talking about?"
Lin Kexin, who had just reached the stairs, overheard and immediately called out,
"Kerong, your zipper!"
She had been trying to make sense of Lin Han's behavior over the past few days and couldn't fathom why Lee Kerong had mocked him. He must have been trying to protect him, which is why Lin Kexin thought to mention Kerong's undone zipper.
Lee Kerong glanced down to find her jeans' zipper undone, revealing half of her pink underwear.
Though Lin Han was a man of integrity, he couldn't help but take in the unexpected sight.
Lee Kerong quickly covered up and, after yelling "Pervert!" dashed off to her room.
Lin Han simply shrugged and smiled, acting as if nothing had happened.
Lin Kexin, at a loss for words, also turned and retreated to her room.
Her greatest concern at the moment was the events of tomorrow.
Would the chairman of Chepapp Group agree to sign the contract with her? Even if the contract was signed, today's commotion with Lin Han, if caught by the press, could jeopardize her grandmother's decision to keep her in the role of general manager.
In the end, it was all for naught; she had merely paved the way for someone else's success.
If her proposal turned out well, Grandma would surely entrust Lee Feng with continuing the collaboration with the Chepapp Group based on her groundwork.
