C20 Midnight Song

Sometimes, a woman's tears are the most formidable weapon.

Zhang Xiaodong could maintain his toughness in a variety of situations, but he inevitably softened in the face of a woman's tears, which seemed as potent as chemical weapons.

"My stomach hurts!"

Nalan Feifei sobbed, smearing her tears and snot all over Zhang Xiaodong.

"For the first time, I've realized that even a beauty can be quite repulsive..."

Zhang Xiaodong shook his head in resignation, at a loss for how to handle the woman who had barged into his room.

It felt like a situation where you can neither hit nor scold. She was like a porcupine, bristling with spikes all over.

"You still have the nerve to bully me? No talking!"

Nalan Feifei exploded in anger, clinging to Zhang Xiaodong and biting fiercely.

"Look, I can forgive your lack of gentleness, but aren't you being a bit too aggressive?"

Zhang Xiaodong kept inspecting the scratches on his body, thinking it might be time to give this woman a lesson.

After all, a true gentleman prefers actions over words...

"I'm in pain... you shouldn't be comfortable either. It's your fault for bullying me."

Nalan Feifei clung to Zhang Xiaodong's shoulder with her teeth, her face a mess of tears and snot, looking utterly aggrieved.

Over the past few days, Nalan Feifei had seen a wide spectrum of life's experiences. She had transitioned from a carefree existence to fending for herself, and the discomfort of this change left her feeling deeply wronged.

"Come here, let me give you a massage. The food you ate is meant for detoxification, which is why you're feeling this discomfort. Tomorrow, you'll feel a lot better, and your body will be much lighter.

"Moreover, if you continue to eat this combination of foods, it will not only improve your health but also have beautifying effects."

Zhang Xiaodong smiled and gently embraced Nalan Feifei's shoulders.

"Don't touch me! Are you trying to take advantage of me? I knew from the car ride that you were no good."

Nalan Feifei's face showed a trace of wariness. Despite her ordeal, she managed to maintain her guard.

Of course, the most crucial aspect was that when they first met in the car, Zhang Xiaodong failed to make a good impression on Nalan Feifei.

This was what really bothered Nalan Feifei. Who would have imagined that in the end, they would end up as landlord and tenant?

"Miss Nalan, let me tell you, I was the one at a disadvantage that day. You were the one who leaned on me first."

Zhang Xiaodong defended himself helplessly, feeling as though he was right but couldn't quite explain it.

"I'm in so much pain, and you still bully me!"

Nalan Feifei exploded in anger, lunging at Zhang Xiaodong and biting him.

"Okay, okay, it's all my fault. I promise I won't take advantage of you. Now, lie down on the bed, and I'll give you a massage."

Zhang Xiaodong gently placed his palm on Nalan Feifei's stomach and started to knead it slowly.

As he channeled energy, a gentle warmth radiated from his hand. At that moment, Nalan Feifei immediately felt a significant relief.

"You're not lying to me?"

Doubt filled Nalan Feifei's eyes, yet she could feel the pain in her stomach easing considerably. The soothing sensation made her hesitant to move away from Zhang Xiaodong's hand.

"Of course I'm not lying. Now, be good and lie down."

Zhang Xiaodong, feeling resigned, could only patiently soothe the woman who seemed on the verge of a meltdown.

"If you dare take advantage of me, I'll fight you tooth and nail. I mean what I say."

Determination etched Nalan Feifei's face as she stared down Zhang Xiaodong, her gaze fierce and intimidating.

"I'm a decent person. If you want to keep feeling terrible, then you might as well leave my room."

Zhang Xiaodong shook his head in resignation, sensing his patience was about to snap.

Handling situations with women was never Zhang Xiaodong's forte, so at times, he resorted to a more blunt approach.

"Fine, I'll lie down."

Nalan Feifei settled down and began to receive Zhang Xiaodong's massage.

Under the auspices of the Evil God, it seemed that no ailment in this world was beyond cure—at least, Zhang Xiaodong had never come across one. So, taking care of Nalan Feifei's minor issue was a piece of cake.

"Exactly like that. Breathe slowly. You'll start to feel more and more comfortable," he coached.

Zhang Xiaodong began massaging Nalan Feifei at a deliberate pace, neither too fast nor too slow, accommodating her temperament.

In the serene setting, Nalan Feifei suddenly felt a warm surge of energy coursing through her body. This force meandered within her, and for a moment, she was overtaken by an overwhelmingly intimate illusion.

"I'm a bit nervous. Maybe you could sing a song to help us both relax?" Nalan Feifei suggested, trying to strike up a conversation as she gradually found her calm.

"I can't sing!" Zhang Xiaodong replied, feeling a sense of helplessness. Attending to this woman was proving to be quite the challenge.

Having dealt with many people and situations, Zhang Xiaodong considered her perhaps the most difficult person he had ever encountered.

"If you can't sing, just hum anything," Nalan Feifei said, her voice tinged with a melancholy that was hard to place.

Nalan Feifei reminisced about her childhood, when she would listen to songs nestled in her grandmother's embrace. She found herself longing for those simpler times.

"I truly can't sing," Zhang Xiaodong insisted, on the brink of frustration. The job of a caretaker was hard enough, and the woman before him was still not content. The situation was almost enough to drive him over the edge.

"But you promised not to bully me, so sing!" Nalan Feifei pressed, her bright eyes shining like crescent moons in the dark.

Bolstered by the mysterious energy, Nalan Feifei swiftly regained her strength and began to stretch out languidly.

After several days of setbacks, she had finally pinpointed Zhang Xiaodong's vulnerability. Nalan Feifei felt it was time for some payback—a fierce payback.

"You're the one pushing me into this," Zhang Xiaodong said with a resigned smile. The darkness was no obstacle to his vision; he could see every shift in Nalan Feifei's expression, which brought an involuntary chuckle to his lips.

"Yes, go ahead and sing. Right now."

Nalan Feifei was resolute, determined to see this through to make up for the hardships she had endured over the past few days.

"Okay, the vast expanse of the sky is my love... Stay behind."

With a powerful voice, Zhang Xiaodong belted out the hit song from the Legend of the Phoenix. In the dead of night, his voice carried far and wide.

"What's all this racket? Did you overeat or something?"

A voice filled with annoyance drifted over from a distance. At that moment, Nalan Feifei was still in a state of disbelief, utterly overwhelmed by the dreadful singing.
