C10 The Truth of the Matter!!
As he mulled it over, Lo Chen couldn't help but confront Boss Jia.
"Boss Jia, who's being unreasonable now?"
Jia Ping looked at Lo Chen and let out a frustrated grunt, then gave a hollow smile and a perfunctory bow.
"Young Master Lo, when has anything involving the Lo family ever been a simple affair?"
The implication was clear, and even someone as naive as Lo Chen could sense that there was definitely a problem.
"Boss Jia, I'm here on behalf of the Lo family to collect a debt, but I must admit, I'm not entirely clear on the details."
Jia Ping was skeptical of Lo Chen and narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Young Master Lo Chen, I can't tell if you're genuinely unaware or just feigning ignorance."
Jia Ping's gaze was earnest as he addressed Lo Chen. "If Young Master Lo Chen truly doesn't know, then perhaps you should return to the Lo family and do some investigating."
At that, Lo Chen managed a wry smile.
It was no secret that Lo Chen was not favored by the Lo family!
Yet, Jia Ping had no intention of shaming Lo Chen; he was simply stating the facts.
Indeed, some matters required proper investigation to uncover the truth.
"Boss Jia, let's not beat around the bush. What's the real issue here? Just tell me."
"Young Master Lo, if I say I can't disclose it, then I simply can't!"
Jia Ping appeared to grow weary of Lo Chen's persistence and raised his hand in a gesture of dismissal.
"Boss Jia, you accused my Lo family of being excessive, but now it seems you're the one crossing the line, doesn't it?"
At this, Jia Ping paused, then looked at Lo Chen with a cold laugh.
Before Jia Ping could respond, one of the attendants interjected, "Look, if we say we can't give it, then we can't give it!"
Lo Chen's brow furrowed, and he was on the verge of losing his temper.
"We've already paid the Lo family a sum of money. Now you're here to demand more? Isn't that a bit excessive?"
Lo Chen remained silent, simply giving Jia Ping a level gaze, as if seeking a denial.
But the reality was as it stood.
Jia Ping's silence did not mean he had no reservations about the actions of the Lo family.
Contrary to expectations, Jia Ping harbored a deep resentment towards the Lo family. But the Lo family, being influential and powerful, was not intimidated by Jia Ping in the slightest. Moreover, this issue had been directly overseen by a certain individual!
Putting aside Jia Ping's thoughts for a moment, the voice of a servant could be heard once more. "We've already paid the Lo family a sum of money, at a loss to our boss. Now there's an issue with that batch of goods, and our boss hasn't even approached the Lo family about it. That's giving you plenty of respect!"
Upon hearing these words, Lo Chen's complexion turned ashen. He hadn't anticipated such underhanded tactics from these people. Accepting this debt would be dishonorable and unjust. Yet, refusing it could spell disaster for the Lo family...
Lo Chen didn't allow himself to dwell on the thought. Instead, his gaze shifted to Jia Ping, filled with inquiry. Jia Ping, upon noticing Lo Chen, made no attempt to conceal his response and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Young Master Lo, please tend to your family's affairs first. Then we can reconvene to discuss this matter, agreed?" Jia Ping suggested.
Lo Chen regarded Jia Ping thoughtfully, recognizing the grace extended to him. Anyone else might have already been dismissed by Jia Ping under such circumstances.
"Boss Jia, I will go back to the Lo family and look into this matter. If it turns out that the Lo family has acted improperly, I assure you that we will provide a satisfactory explanation to you," Lo Chen promised.
Jia Ping remained unmoved by Lo Chen's words and simply gestured with his hand, signaling that there was no need for further discussion and that Lo Chen should promptly return home.
Lo Chen, momentarily at a loss for words at Jia Ping's demeanor, realized there was no point in pressing the issue further. He respectfully bowed and took his leave.
Jia Ping's disdain for the Lo family's conduct was palpable, even though Lo Chen was merely a pawn in the grand scheme of things. Nevertheless, Lo Chen bore the Lo surname, and in Jia Ping's current mindset, anyone with that surname was contemptible.
Indeed, even Lo Chen himself couldn't help but feel that only a scoundrel could have orchestrated such a debacle.
Was this debt even collectible?
Certainly not. Lo Chen intended to return and come clean to the Lo family about everything.
"Boss Jia, you don't need to repay this debt."
Upon hearing this, Jia Ping was momentarily taken aback.
He didn't want to repay the debt, but that was because the Lo family was at the peak of its influence!
Who would dare cross them?
"Young Master Chen, let me be frank with you. This debt belongs to your mother's family, but your fourth brother took it over."
Lo Chen understood Jia Ping's implication and gave a slight nod.
Without needing further explanation from Jia Ping, Lo Chen could deduce that his unscrupulous fourth brother was behind this.
In fact, if anyone in the Lo family could be called the most shameless, it would be his fourth brother.
Lo Chen gave Jia Ping a look and then proceeded to tear up the bill right in front of him.
"Boss Jia, I have several lucrative opportunities in mind. If you're interested, then..."
Lo Chen left his sentence hanging, letting his gaze convey the rest.
Jia Ping was no fool; he grasped the unspoken offer in Lo Chen's words.
Moreover, Lo Chen had come to settle a debt, and instead of insisting on payment, he was offering a chance to earn money.
It wasn't just Jia Ping who would know what to choose in this situation—any shrewd operator would.
"Young Master Chen, please take a seat."
Saying this, Jia Ping signaled his subordinates with a glance, instructing them to quickly prepare.
Having worked with Jia Ping for so long, the subordinates instantly recognized the intent in his gaze and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Young Master..."
Jia Ping seemed eager to clarify something, but Lo Chen simply raised his hand to stop him.
"Boss Jia, no need for further words. I understand your position."
Jia Ping mopped the sweat from his brow and respectfully offered Lo Chen a freshly brewed cup of tea.
"Young Master, please enjoy the tea."
Presenting the tea with both hands was a gesture of respect, signaling Jia Ping's request for Lo Chen's guidance.
If Lo Chen accepted the tea, it would signal his agreement to Jia Ping's proposal.
However, Lo Chen had no desire to let the Lo family monopolize power. By supporting Jia Ping, he was strategically placing a hidden piece on the board.
"Boss Jia, your business is thriving..."
The money-making scheme devised by Lo Chen and Jia Ping went unheard by others.
Clearly, though, the strategy Lo Chen proposed was exceptionally fitting for Jia Ping.
Indeed, no other plan could hold a candle to Lo Chen's brilliant money-making strategy.
"Young Master Chen, I am profoundly grateful for your immense kindness. Should you have any requests, just say the word, and I will spare no effort to assist you!"
With those words, Lo Chen simply nodded in silent acknowledgment.
