C12 Stop the Hustle and Bustle!
Lo Chen gave his fourth brother, Lo Ding, a smile that left Lo Ding feeling distinctly unsettled.
But who was Lo Chen, after all?
He had no time to waste on such insignificant nuisances. With that, Lo Chen turned his back and walked away from Lo Ding's gaze.
Meanwhile, Lo Ding watched Lo Chen's departing figure with a sour expression on his face.
He hurried after him, saying, "Mr. Lo Chen, you might not be familiar with the Lo family's rules since you've just returned."
Lo Chen didn't even spare Lo Ding a glance. He had no desire to engage with or even look at someone so contemptible.
"Mr. Lo Chen, if you don't return, you'll have to face punishment at the family's Punishment Hall."
Lo Chen arched an eyebrow, his gaze flashing with annoyance.
Why did Lo Ding have to be like a persistent fly, buzzing around incessantly?
Taking a deep breath, it was clear that Lo Chen was nearing the end of his patience.
"Fourth brother, what are you up to?" he asked.
At this, Lo Ding's face tensed, and he shot Lo Chen a look of displeasure.
"Mr. Lo Chen, I'm merely suggesting that you should settle your debts first," Lo Ding advised.
Lo Chen remained silent, continuing his calm walk to his room.
This time, he didn't utter a single word to Lo Ding.
Yet Lo Ding persisted, reminding Lo Chen about the unfinished punishment, which only served to increase Lo Chen's irritation.
Quickening his pace, Lo Chen reached his door.
He opened it, stepped inside, and closed it behind him with a fluidity that suggested he had performed this routine countless times before.
Lo Ding was left standing outside, unceremoniously shut out.
Once the door was closed, a slight smile curled the corners of Lo Chen's mouth, clearly pleased.
Now, it was time for the next step...
Lo Chen carefully extracted the herbs to enhance the Holy Bone from his chest, his eyes alight with fervor.
"Let's begin," he announced.
He inhaled deeply and fetched a bucket of hot water.
Cultivating one's foundational bone was straightforward, but since this was the Holy Bone, the process was decidedly more challenging.
However, these Yellow Rank medicinal herbs were sufficient for him to begin developing his Holy Bone.
Once the herbs were added to the hot water, the previously still water started to boil.
It was as if the water had been brought to a boil once more, rapidly bubbling up.
If an ordinary person were to see this, they wouldn't dare to go near it, let alone touch it.
There was no doubt in anyone's mind that this water could scald off their skin.
The likelihood of being burned was nearly a certainty!
But Lo Chen didn't hesitate.
With just a casual glance at the boiling water, he gritted his teeth and leaped into the bucket.
The intense temperature and the potent reaction of the herbs flooded into Lo Chen's body, bringing with it an immense pain that he nearly couldn't bear.
This was Lo Chen, a man of such resilience, and even he was almost overwhelmed. Anyone else might have succumbed to the agony.
"Hu."
This was just the first of three waves of assault.
The first wave was excruciating, and it wasn't out of the question that the second wave could knock someone unconscious.
The first wave had only just penetrated his body; the second wave was set to revitalize his flesh and blood!
The severe pain struck Lo Chen again, and this time he could barely contain it.
"Ah!"
A roar burst from Lo Chen's lips as his eyes flew wide open.
The pain was unbearable!
It seared into his very marrow!
Lo Chen involuntarily gasped for air, the pain was simply too intense.
"Ding! Host, please endure for a moment."
The system, sensing that Lo Chen's tolerance was reaching its limit, couldn't help but interject.
"Pain... so much pain!"
A bead of cold sweat trickled down Lo Chen's forehead.
Without the Holy Bone, Lo Chen would have surely perished beneath the onslaught of these medicinal herbs.
"Hu, hu, hu."
Lo Chen gazed up at the sky, a sense of relief flickering in his eyes.
"Is it... finally... about to end?"
Lo Chen was aware that the last wave would be the most torturous, the hardest to withstand.
Before he could even take a breath, the final wave of pain crashed over him, threatening to rip him apart.
Veins throbbed on Lo Chen's forehead as he stared wide-eyed.
Bloodshot eyes!
"Ah!"
With that scream, Lo Chen immediately passed out.
The water around him naturally turned clear.
Lo Chen lay still in the water while the Holy Bone, aided by the medicinal herbs, slowly became more crystalline and transparent.
Meanwhile, Lo Ding, with a face dark as a storm cloud, made his way to his subordinate's room.
"Liu Ahgou, what happened?"
Liu Ahgou was clearly one of the two who had been following Lo Chen.
At that moment, Liu Ahgou could only bow respectfully.
"Young... Young Master, when I returned to report to you, I discovered that Zhao Laosi had been taken to the City Lord Mansion by a mob of fools."
Lo Ding was already in a foul mood, and Liu Ahgou's report did nothing to improve it.
He grunted at Liu Ahgou, "Useless!"
Liu Ahgou managed a bitter smile, unsure of how to defend himself.
"Take my token and show it to the people at the City Lord Mansion."
With that, Lo Ding produced his token of identity.
Though Lo Ding was inclined to let Zhao Laosi stew in jail, he was still one of his own. Ultimately, Lo Ding decided to have Zhao Laosi released.
"Young Master, I have returned."
Not long after, Liu Ahgou came back to Lo Ding with Zhao Laosi, both displaying utmost respect.
"Useless!"
Lo Ding's anger intensified at the sight of Zhao Laosi's ingratiating smile.
"Young Master, please hear me out..."
But Lo Ding had no interest in listening and briskly brushed off Zhao Laosi's hand.
"Zhao Laosi, remember this: what I can give, I can also take away. Serve me well and obediently. Do you understand?"
Lo Ding lacked Lo Chen's charm, the kind that inspired undying loyalty.
The real reason these people clung to Lo Ding was that he held their secrets in his hands!
"Young Master, rest assured, this will not happen again."
Lo Ding was not easily swayed. He merely snorted coldly and gave Zhao Laosi a mirthless smile.
"Zhao Laosi, if you botch things up for me again, you know the consequences."
Zhao Laosi, reading Lo Ding's stern demeanor, clearly grasped the gravity of the warning.
She quickly bowed her head to Lo Ding, her eyes blazing with anger, yet she conveyed a sense of helplessness.
Just then, Lo Ding's eyes flickered mischievously, as if a devious plan had just occurred to him.
