C6 It Isn't Impossible for Me to Go Back!
Lo Chen withdrew his hand and respectfully addressed Lo Gang, "Housekeeper Lo!"
Lo Gaang regarded the present Lo Chen with approval, nodding in agreement. "Young Masters, the Lo family abides by a strict rule: siblings must not harm each other. If we can put today's incident behind us, I'll consider it as if it never happened. However, should anyone refuse to let bygones be bygones, they'll have to face the family's discipline."
Lo Yuv, realizing that Lo Gaang was siding with him, joyfully exclaimed, "Naturally, naturally!"
Despite his reluctance, Lo Chen knew he was not in a position of strength and begrudgingly nodded in assent.
"Hmm! Young Master Lo Chen, now that you've regained your martial prowess and considering your Innate Holy Bone's potential, your future accomplishments are bound to be remarkable. Therefore, I boldly offer to bring you and your mother back to the Lo family on behalf of our master. Would you be willing?"
Upon hearing this, Lo Chen felt a mix of happiness at completing his mission and indignation at the lack of explanation for their earlier dismissal and sudden return. He felt undervalued and determined to negotiate for more benefits.
"Returning is not out of the question, but..."
Before Lo Chen could finish, Lo Yuv interjected with a rebuke, "Lo Chen, you're out of line! Being allowed to return to the Lo family is an immense privilege, and yet you dare to make demands?"
Unfazed by Lo Yuv's outburst, Lo Chen pressed on, "Housekeeper Lo, I'm open to returning to the Lo family, but on certain conditions. I expect the family to arrange a grand palanquin to escort my mother back with all the pomp of gongs, drums, and firecrackers. I also want the cultivation resources that the Lo family has withheld from me over the years. Finally, I insist on the right to select three items of my choosing from the Lo family's Treasure Pavilion."
Lo Yuv saw Lo Chen's demands as excessively stringent, particularly the last request for free choice of three treasures from the Lo Family's Treasure Pavilion—a privilege not even granted to Lo Hao, the favored son of Lo Wushuang. Lo Yuv couldn't help but think Lo Chen was flirting with disaster.
"Your terms are acceptable, just as long as you, Young Master Lo Chen, agree to return to the Lo family!"
"What? He just... agreed like that?"
Lo Yuv was taken aback. He had assumed that Lo Chen's pretense of nobility would infuriate Lo Gaang, causing him to lose his temper. At the very least, he didn't expect such a nonchalant acceptance.
Lo Chen regarded Lo Yuv with a look of pity. Naturally gifted with the Innate Holy Bone and having regained his senses, he certainly had every reason to be proud.
But for someone like Lo Yuv, with merely mortal bone talent, such an experience would likely elude him for a lifetime.
"Well then, Housekeeper Lo, you may return to the Lo family to make the necessary preparations!"
Lo Gaang responded with a smile, "Certainly, Young Master Lo Chen! I'll head back and instruct Asan right away!"
In an instant, a shadow darted to Lo Gaang's side, kneeling on one knee, "Housekeeper Lo, what are your orders?"
"Your duty is to protect Young Master Lo Chen here. Ensure he does not suffer the slightest harm. Understood?"
"Understood, sir!"
"Hmm."
With a nod, Lo Gaang turned and made his way to the door.
Lo Yuv was utterly flabbergasted. Asan was one of the Lo family's ironclad guards, and even the least skilled among them was at the first tier of Qi Condensation.
Aside from Lo Wushuang, the family patriarch, Lo Gaang had limited authority to command only a few. Now, assigning an Iron Guard to protect Lo Chen clearly signified something significant.
Seething with resentment, Lo Yuv quickly exited the grand doorway.
As he walked, his resentment grew. He regretted not having dealt a fatal blow earlier, seizing the Holy Bone then and there. By now, it would have been a done deal, beyond reproach.
Why had he been so cautious before? Had he not been, all these advantages would have been his.
[Ding! Mission complete, your reward has been dispatched!]
Watching Lo Gaang and Lo Yuv depart, and with Asan, the Iron Guard, now out of sight, Lo Chen returned indoors to resume his cultivation, focusing on breaking through his acupoints to enhance his power.
Although he was now able to return to the Lo family, Lo Chen still had seven siblings ranking above him, excluding the inconsequential Lo Yuv. They were his eldest sister, Lo Mei; his second brother, Lo Hao; his third sister, Lo Yan; his fourth brother, Lo Ding; his fifth sister, Lo Feiyan; his sixth sister, Lo Xi; and his seventh brother, Lo He. Lo Hao and Lo Ding, both possessing the Mystic Skeleton potential, were greatly favored by Lo Wushuang. They had been vying for the position of heir for many years, and now they faced a formidable rival in him.
Despite Lo Chen's lack of interest in competing with them, it was inevitable that they would be wary of him. Therefore, he needed to quickly bolster his strength; otherwise, he might meet an untimely end without even realizing how it happened.
Upon returning to his room and seeing the fifty-five attribute points on his system panel, Lo Chen's eyes sparkled with anticipation. By allocating all his points to comprehension, he could reach the level of an average person. With his Innate Holy Bone aptitude and now average comprehension, improving his strength at this stage would be a breeze, provided he put in the effort.
"System, allocate all my attribute points to comprehension!" he commanded.
[Ding! Allocation successful. Current Comprehension: 100 (MAX). Remaining Attribute Points: 38]
A wave of clarity washed over Lo Chen's mind, making his thoughts flow effortlessly. It felt like he had regained the intelligence he was always meant to have, prompting him to exhale a breath of satisfaction.
"Ah, at last, I've reached the level of an average person. Before, my one-track mind was truly suffocating!" he exclaimed.
Having vented his frustration, Lo Chen settled into meditation, drawing in the sparse Spiritual Qi of Heaven and Earth around him to target his acupoints. The place he was in was just an ordinary dwelling with thinly dispersed Spiritual Qi, requiring significant time to gather enough to make an impact on his acupoints.
He knew that if he were at the Lo Residence, the conditions for cultivation would likely be much more favorable. Seated cross-legged on the bed, Lo Chen focused on harnessing the Spiritual Qi of Heaven and Earth, directing it towards his fifty-first acupoint.
Several hours later, Yu Qiulian came back from her work. Noticing that Lo Chen was deep in meditation, she chose not to interrupt him. She proceeded to the courtyard to draw water and began washing clothes.
Over the years, since their expulsion from the Lo family, she and Lo Chen had made a living as seamstresses to support themselves. Her exceptional skills had thankfully kept them from being homeless.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Suddenly, there was a series of knocks at the door.
"Who's there?"
Yu Qiulian called out as she made her way to the entrance.
Upon opening the door and finding two strangers, she inquired with a hint of confusion, "May I help you?"
Qian Zhihao's eyes nearly popped out of his head at the sight of Yu Qiulian. He ogled her as though she were the most exquisite feast for the eyes.
With a furrowed brow and evident distaste, Yu Qiulian demanded, "Who are you, and why are you knocking on my door?"
Regaining his composure, Qian Zhihao hastily apologized, "Forgive my earlier rudeness. My name is Qian, a local merchant. I came here today with the intention of purchasing this property to convert it into a workshop, if you would please consider..."
"The house is not for sale. I intend to keep it for my own use. You'll have to look elsewhere," Yu Qiulian firmly replied.
