C1 The Three Big Systems Were Fighting over the Host

"Lin Haoyu, you have awakened to your host body's potential. You now have the option to select from the Billionaire Tycoon System, the Ultimate Immortal Cultivation System, or the Star Luck System."

"I recommend that you, Host Lin Haoyu, opt for the Star Luck System. Otherwise, you'll be impotent for life."

Lin Haoyu thought he might have sustained a concussion from being hit by a car, what with the bizarre, hallucinatory voices in his head.

"Man, I should've made that kid pay for the medical bills."

Wincing in pain, Lin Haoyu deeply regretted his situation.

Had he not been running late for work, he might be lying on the ground right now, extorting that driver for his car.

What a stroke of bad luck Lin Haoyu was having. With a sullen expression, he picked up his briefcase, which had been knocked off his shoulder, dusted it off, and massaged his throbbing left knee. He hobbled down the bustling street toward his company.

"Seriously, getting hit by a car while walking? My luck is the worst."

Lin Haoyu was full of grievances. He couldn't fathom why his luck was so terrible today. First, he was late for work, and then he was struck by an old Santana that crossed the line, injuring his left knee.

As he was about to step into the company building, he saw his boss, Jiang Xiuwen, approaching with a piercing gaze.

"You're Lin Haoyu, correct? Don't bother coming to work anymore."

Jiang Xiuwen, the boss, exuded an aura of authority that intimidated everyone in the company.

Lin Haoyu was taken aback. He incredulously looked down at his neat and stylish attire, then at his left foot that had not yet touched the ground.

This didn't make sense!

He hadn't even stepped forward with his left foot, and his suit was perfectly normal. There was no valid reason for Jiang Xiuwen to fire him.

Besides, he was responsible for a million-dollar project at the company. Firing Lin Haoyu now would mean throwing away millions.

"Boss, what's the reason for this? I was only late once. Does it really warrant firing me?"

Lin Haoyu was both puzzled and infuriated as he spoke, feeling increasingly unlucky today. It seemed like the Goddess of Luck might have taken the day off.

Jiang Xiuwen approached, gently patting Lin Haoyu's shoulder with a furrowed brow, "You've got some real talent, but how on earth did you get tangled up with the Liu family?"

The Liu family, one of the four great families, wielded immense power in Flitrora. Lin Haoyu's ex-girlfriend, who was now being courted by Liu Feiwen, belonged to that influential clan.

While his situation was understandable, Lin Haoyu could only offer a wry smile; he dared not provoke the Liu family.

With a sigh of resignation, Jiang Xiuwen said, "Well, things have escalated to this point, and I can't protect you any longer. You're on your own now." He shook his head in a gesture of helplessness.

After a long silence, Lin Haoyu bowed slightly to Jiang Xiuwen, who wore a similarly helpless look, and took his leave, "Boss, take care. I'm off."

"Host, are you unhappy with how things are? Do you dream of flipping the script to become a world-famous superstar? Opt for the Star Luck System, the latest version, with equipment... and all the luck you can handle without spending a dime. It's a whole new experience! If you're a true friend, choose me!"

Having just said goodbye to his boss and strolling down the street, Lin Haoyu heard a jarring Cantonese accent echo in his head. "Crap, that's one serious concussion."

A star? Lin Haoyu was more concerned about his dinner plans than fame—whether tonight's instant noodles would feature ham or egg.

Feeling dejected, Lin Haoyu leaned against a nearby utility pole and slowly crouched down to gather his thoughts.

As he contemplated his new bout of unemployment starting today, Lin Haoyu couldn't help but smirk at his own misfortune. He had worked tirelessly since graduation to prove himself worthy of her, but in the end, he couldn't compete with just a few words from someone else.

A passerby noticed Lin Haoyu crouched by the roadside, head in hands, and with a pang of sympathy, dropped two one-dollar coins before swiftly disappearing from the scene.

Staring at the coins, a surge of nameless anger welled up inside Lin Haoyu.

"Holy shit! Do you really take me for a beggar? Well, I'll show you—I'm going to become a world-famous star!"

He wasn't comfortable accepting help from others, especially when it felt like an affront to his dignity.

As the person walked away, Lin Haoyu continued to mutter under his breath, clutching the two coins tightly in his hand with a disdainful snort.

"Hmph! Don't think I'm grateful for your money. Leaving these two dollars here would be a waste. I'll just add an egg to my meal tonight, and tomorrow, I'll be back to making significant contributions to society!"

Suddenly, a buzzing sound of electricity shot through Lin Haoyu's head, making him jolt.

"Ding! Congratulations to the host for successfully binding the Star Luck System!"

Another emotionless electronic voice followed.

Lin Haoyu stood up, startled, having heard the message loud and clear.

"System?"

Is this the fabled system that allows one to move mountains with a gesture and spend gold like dirt with the blink of an eye?

This is what every protagonist in the novels has! With this, couldn't I just summon power with a wave of my hand?

Exciting!

For the first time, Lin Haoyu felt an overwhelming surge of determination. At last, the heavens had not let him down, offering him a chance to turn his luck around!

"System! Show yourself! Explain to me how you ended up binding with me?"

Lin Haoyu's curiosity about the protagonist's system from the novels was piqued; nobody had ever described how exhilarating this sensation could be.

"Ding! Due to the external force, the host has awakened his talent and chosen this system from the three major systems, proving the host's wisdom."

"External force? Was it because I got hit by a car?"

Lin Haoyu's left knee still throbbed, but if it meant awakening the system, it was all worth it!

"What are the three major systems?"

Lin Haoyu's gaze was fierce. He had faith that his system wouldn't deceive him and that his choice was undoubtedly the best among the three.

"Ding! First is the 'Billionaire Tycoon System', which is the least practical. You made the right decision not choosing it."

Swoosh! An arrow shot through the sky and in an instant, pierced Lin Haoyu's heart, which had been brimming with self-satisfaction just a moment before.

"What in the world?! Billionaire Tycoon System! It's all about the money!"

In a flash, Lin Haoyu's jaw dropped as though he had just missed out on a fortune of billions. He fell to his knees, wailing loudly, drawing curious glances from many bystanders.

One could tell that the Billionaire Tycoon System was no ordinary system just from its name. Not to mention the daily spending limit of millions, setting up a major corporation would be a breeze.

Compared to that, what in the world was this Star Luck System good for?

"Next, we have the 'Ultimate Immortal Cultivation System'. A host with ambition would definitely not settle for this option."

Swoosh! Bullseye! Lin Haoyu, overcome with sorrow, clutched at his chest.

Congratulations to our system participant for clinching the archery championship at this sports meet!

Another arrow to the heart, and Lin Haoyu began to recognize his system's true nature—it might not be the brightest, but its archery was second to none.

"With this Immortal Cultivation System, I could use my unbeatable martial arts to rule the city. Only a fool would pick the Star Luck System."

Lin Haoyu, feeling utterly despondent, let out a soft sigh and shifted his attention to the system at hand.

"System, I'm seriously tempted to smash you, but I know you're a good system. You wouldn't scam your own host like that."

Lin Haoyu managed a smile, more pained than if he were crying, curious to find out what the Star Luck System was actually for.

Sure enough, the system enjoyed being buttered up. This time, it confirmed what Lin Haoyu often claimed, "It's not that I'm unlucky; my luck has simply peaked to such an extent that it's backfired."

"Ding! Congratulations to the host for receiving the first mission from the system: get hit by a car. Upon completion, you will receive a reward beyond your wildest dreams."

Lin Haoyu: "..."

Being hit by a car seemed to be an inescapable fate for Lin Haoyu today. Maybe his system really did have a screw loose.

"Come on, system, show me exactly how I'm supposed to complete this 'get hit by a car' mission."

Lin Haoyu fought back the impulse to unleash a beating, his forehead veins bulging and the corner of his mouth twitching. Clenching his teeth, he muttered, "There's always a way when you reach the mountain. Host, never give up hope."

It was clear to Lin Haoyu now that normal communication with the system was impossible. It was nothing but a "scam system" that lacked even the protagonist's aura.

Heaving a sigh, Lin Haoyu got to his feet and crossed the street at the zebra crossing.

Before crossing, Lin Haoyu was extra cautious, like someone once bitten by a snake and now scared of ropes. He made sure it was a green light before quickly making his way across.

Unfortunately, it seemed like fate was playing a cruel joke on him.

"Beep!"

Before he could even register what was happening, a massive force slammed into his waist. In a flash, his pelvis shattered, the shockwave traveling to his leg bones and spine...

The pain was unbearable!

Lin Haoyu's vision darkened as he began to experience the fainting spells brought on by lack of blood flow.

"Is this... getting hit by a car again? Seriously, my luck is the worst..."

Struggling to open his eyes, Lin Haoyu could barely make out his nemesis, Liu Feiwen, the second young master of the Liu family, stepping out of the car.

"Boom!"

Another thunderous noise echoed through the streets as the local residents gathered around to spectate.

Lin Haoyu couldn't hold on any longer. His eyes involuntarily closed, and he felt as if he were about to ascend to a higher plane.

...

"Breathing is faint, heartbeat nearly nonexistent, body temperature is below thirty degrees..."

The doctor, clad in a white coat, noted the readings from the monitors while keeping a close eye on Lin Haoyu, who was teetering on the brink of death after being struck by a car.

The nurse took another round of breath measurements and shook her head.

"Doctor Rong, the patient has stopped breathing. It looks like he's already passed. There's no point in attempting resuscitation."

"Wait, you should have faith in my medical expertise," insisted the lead surgeon, Rong Chao, his brow furrowed and forehead slick with perspiration. He grabbed an electrode paddle in one hand and connected the power with the other.

"Zap!"

"Zap!"

"Crack!"

"It's no use. Inform everyone, the patient has passed away."

The nurse furrowed her brow and dismissively waved her hand, seemingly loath to linger near the corpse.

Rong Chao stood frozen for a moment, then lifted his gaze to the heart rate monitor, which was beginning to show signs of fluctuation. His eyes glazed over in shock.

"...Wait! No, no, this is incredible!"
