Kang Biqin's captivating voice immediately sparked Lin Haoyu's curiosity.
He couldn't help but wonder what game she was playing. After all, she had just had her program time hijacked by him, so she was bound to be upset.
Yet, despite her questionable methods and demeanor, she did have the makings of a talented host.
As expected, it wasn't long before a wave of laughter echoed from the radio:
"Today, our station welcomed a new face. If even a newcomer can be considered a mainstay, then what does that make Zuo Qiushu, who is also a newcomer?"
A sly grin spread across Lin Haoyu's face. The old lady clearly couldn't contain her restless spirit!
The following day, at the Flitrora TV Station in Flitrora City, Lin Haoyu was greeted by Yu Dandie, who had come to show him the way, right at the entrance.
"What's the matter? Don't tell me you've forgotten me after just one day?"
Yu Dandie laughed playfully, skipping over to Lin Haoyu and resting her hands on his shoulders as she examined his sharply defined features.
Damn, as a 23-year-old virgin, Lin Haoyu couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.
"So, have you finished recording your program?"
Lin Haoyu cleared his throat and, feeling quite embarrassed, gently lowered Yu Dandie's hands, clumsily steering the conversation elsewhere.
But maybe Lin Haoyu's skin was just too thick, because Yu Dandie paused, then answered with a light chuckle:
"Of course not. I heard your program got the green light, so I wanted to come and congratulate you. What about it, are you going to treat me to celebrate tomorrow?"
Yu Dandie was undeniably stunning, with a youthful face and impressive... capabilities, making her a formidable figure at the station.
As for treating someone to a meal, Lin Haoyu had to admit that was off the table. His wallet was reserved solely for this month's supply of instant noodles, and even then, he couldn't afford to add an egg.
"Cough, well, if you're the one with money, feel free to treat me to a meal."
Scratching his head, Lin Haoyu was taken aback when Yu Dandie actually beamed at him and, with a flirtatious gesture, placed her hand back on his shoulder, saying with a smile:
"Alright! It's a date. Tonight at eight o'clock, we'll meet at the Imperial Dragon Hotel right across from the main entrance!"
With those words, Yu Dandie, ever decisive and bold, left Lin Haoyu with her resolute silhouette, not allowing him any chance to argue.
Upon entering Teletorium No. 3, Lin Haoyu was greeted with warm salutations.
"Yo, Brother Yu has arrived!"
A voice, both surprised and proud, echoed throughout the recording studio.
Wang Shijie, with a goofy grin, was tinkering with some new equipment.
"Brother Yu, Mr. Jian from logistics sent these over. He said they're to ensure you have the support you need."
Lin Haoyu paused, reflecting on how the old equipment was so outdated that the sound quality was worse than the late-night movies he used to watch.
Back in college, Lin Haoyu's roommate had a high opinion of such films:
Level 3 movies are about art, while AVs are about technique.
Now, Lin Haoyu thought to himself that his storytelling show was all about audacity—the more brazen, the more beloved by the audience.
"I'll have to thank Jian Yang for this."
With a chuckle, Lin Haoyu gestured and settled into his seat, ready to record the second episode of the "After Midnight" program.
"Starting today, our show goes live, so for safety's sake, we'll need to record two episodes daily to avoid any unforeseen issues."
Lin Haoyu gave them a serious look before giving his instructions.
Sugar nodded, turned to the recording equipment, and set it for a ten-second countdown to automatic recording—a perk of the new technology.
"Lin Haoyu, Director Jian Yang listened to your first episode yesterday and wants you to quickly record the upcoming episodes for his review before they air!"
Lin Haoyu nodded in understanding, then began the new session's opening remarks.
With a "ding," the recording equipment began automatically, a vast improvement over the old manual countdown system. Wang Shijie could finally take a break and relax.
"Welcome to 'After Midnight' with your host, Lin Haoyu. I am the Avenger, Lin Haoyu. If I were to die one day, it would be a tremendous loss to talent worldwide; if you don't listen, it's your loss for a lifetime."
No sooner had he finished than Sugar couldn't contain her laughter and burst out first:
"Snort! Stop!"
Wang Shijie nearly sprayed a mouthful of salty soda across Sugar's face, but fortunately, it was just a rice ball that flew out—hardly lethal...
"What a shame, those convenience store rice balls are actually pretty good."
With a heavy sigh, Wang Shijie wiped away the remnants of the rice ball from his mouth, then his smile blossomed unabashedly:
"Hehe, Yu, why is it that everything you say is always so..."
"Upscale?"
Lin Haoyu smiled with feigned serenity, though inwardly he was chuckling with glee.
But outwardly, Lin Haoyu maintained his composed demeanor, slightly furrowing his brow and dismissively waving his hand:
"Keep it low-key, remember to stay humble. Don't go around flaunting your skills all the time, you'll just draw resentment..."
"Gulp!"
Wang Shijie hastily gulped down the last of his rice ball, then earnestly added:
"...No, no, no, Brother Yu, why are you always so hilarious?"
The recording had just wrapped up, but Wang Shijie had been lingering at the door of teletorium three for quite a while, only managing to step inside when it was time for lunch.
"Brother Yu, I was wrong."
Wang Shijie inhaled deeply, guilt written all over his face as he sat down and eyed the three lunch boxes before him with a troubled look.
Lin Haoyu gave him a sidelong glance and asked coldly,
"What exactly did you do wrong?"
Caught off guard, Wang Shijie looked up at Lin Haoyu, his face shifting oddly as he glanced between the lunch boxes and Sugar, taking a long time to find the words:
"I was wrong to use my goofy words to describe Brother Yu, always using a goofy tone to say goofy things."
Lin Haoyu: "???"
Sugar: "???"
"Devouring a massive chapter of nearly four thousand words in one sitting—what a thrill."
