C15 Did He Really Meet a Ghost?

"Boom!"

Two and a half percent? You've got to be kidding! Not even Lin Haoyu, let alone Jian Yang, was confident about breaking two percent on a late-night show!

"How is this possible! I remember our late-night slot's record high was just one percent!"

Lin Haoyu slapped his face in disbelief and silently took a deep breath to calm himself.

It stung a bit, confirming he wasn't dreaming. Most notably, the spicy pork heart he'd eaten for lunch seemed to have left a residue on his hand, making his face feel fiery...

Wang Shijie grinned smugly, offering to carry Lin Haoyu's backpack with feigned respect, and said with a sly chuckle,

"Hehe, Yu! Our late-night record has soared to two and a half percent!"

Damn! A surge of boundless excitement welled up in Lin Haoyu's heart.

"I've broken a record out of the blue. System, my luck point must be sky-high right now."

Lin Haoyu was so thrilled he nearly burst into laughter, but he managed to keep his composure, cool as a cucumber. After all, this wasn't the first time he had set a record in his life.

Indeed, back in elementary school, his teacher had helped Lin Haoyu achieve his first 'highest' record: the worst student in the worst class...

Shaking off this less-than-stellar memory, Lin Haoyu strode out of the TV station, only to find himself once again in front of the Imperial Dragon Hotel, right across from the radio station.

That's right, Lin Haoyu hadn't forgotten that Yu Dandie had promised to treat him to a meal the day before.

And in the spirit of never passing up a free meal, Lin Haoyu had invited Wang Shijie and Sugar to join them. Unfortunately, Sugar had something come up at home and couldn't make it.

Throughout the journey, Wang Shijie couldn't stop grinning mischievously, repeatedly asking,

"Hehehe, Yu, you're not expecting me to foot the bill for this meal, are you?"

"Do you really think your Brother Yu would go back on his word?"

Lin Haoyu gave Wang Shijie a cold, hard stare, fighting the urge to ditch him and go to the dinner alone.

Sensing Lin Haoyu's annoyance, Wang Shijie didn't dare to provoke him further. After all, he didn't want to squander the rare opportunity to eat on someone else's dime, especially not when he had a reputation as the world's number one foodie to uphold.

Wang Shijie's incessant tagging along was precisely the reason they only managed to reach the Imperial Dragon Hotel at dusk.

"Hey, what's this? Our illustrious Brother Yu, the ratings champion, is late?"

Inside a private room at the Imperial Dragon Hotel, Yu Dandie leisurely perused the menu while teasingly observing the two men as they entered.

Lin Haoyu cleared his throat awkwardly, remarking,

"Speaking of which, the weather's quite nice today, isn't it?"

The weather was indeed pleasant. Just look at how blue the sky is outside! It's so intensely blue it's almost turning black...

"Cough, cough. Let's just forget about it. Yu Dandie, consider this meal on me."

Lin Haoyu scratched his head, feeling a bit sheepish. He had a litany of complaints he wanted to hurl at Wang Shijie, but he held back out of consideration for the man's feelings.

Yet, recalling Wang Shijie's relentless pestering about "paying," "treating," "settling the bill," and "certain techniques" on the way there, Lin Haoyu felt his blood boil.

The guy might as well have been an enemy spy sent to sabotage him.

"If it weren't for Wang Shijie slowing me down, I wouldn't have been late."

Lin Haoyu scoffed internally, nearly ready to lash out, but thankfully his better judgment prevailed.

After all, his hands were flesh and bone; he couldn't abuse them like that—they'd hurt...

Once seated, Lin Haoyu nonchalantly selected a few dishes before passing the menu back to Yu Dandie, not sparing Wang Shijie a glance.

Wang Shijie: ...What did I do wrong??

Though he was at a loss for words, he recognized his role in their tardiness and resigned himself to doodling circles on the table.

Eventually, his scribbling became quite elaborate, drawing astonished looks from the waitstaff who nearly mistook him for someone with a mental disorder.

Yu Dandie let out a light laugh, resting her hands on the table, and said,

"So, with the program's ratings soaring, don't you have anything to share? Perhaps some secrets of your success?"

The more she observed Lin Haoyu, the more Yu Dandie appreciated her decision to send him to the TV station, a move that ultimately led to his ratings triumph.

"Gulp!"

Lin Haoyu had just swallowed a mouthful of food when Yu Dandie's question caught him off guard, causing him to choke. He quickly downed a gulp of juice to clear his throat and let out a long, relieved sigh.

"Phew, what's all this about? And with my smarts, do I really need any tricks?"

He cast a disdainful glance at Wang Shijie, who was indulging in the feast with equal fervor, and couldn't help but frown as he spoke.

"Hey, Wang, am I right?"

"… Uh? Oh, yeah, definitely…"

Wang Shijie nodded hastily, clearly just humoring Lin Haoyu. He was too engrossed in the spread of delectable dishes before him to entertain any questions.

In his hand, he held a piece of the deliciously named Braised Shijie Meat, a creation dubbed by Lin Haoyu himself. Before him was a plate of roasted pork trotters, and in the bowl, a few spicy lobsters—none of the dishes were stir-fried.

Seeing this, Yu Dandie, witnessing Wang Shijie's complete disregard for dining etiquette, covertly wiped the sweat from her brow and looked at Lin Haoyu with alarm.

"Lin Haoyu, are you sure he's not going to eat himself to death?"

"No, he'll be fine. Trust me, he won't die."

Lin Haoyu smiled benevolently, as if he was certain that this "creature" could handle it.

To the untrained eye, there seemed to be no difference, but the reality was quite the opposite. Even though they sounded identical, Lin Haoyu couldn't help but internally mock the situation.

Let's hope that's the case.

Yu Dandie's brow furrowed with concern, but she quickly let it go, biting back her words. In her twenty-one years, she had never encountered such an oddity—him demolishing over half the dishes on the table single-handedly.

Post-meal, Lin Haoyu and Yu Dandie took a leisurely stroll outside the restaurant, while Wang Shijie was confined to the restroom, having overindulged.

"So, Yu Dandie, how's your program coming along?"

Lin Haoyu touched his nose and his eyes suddenly caught something in the grass beside the park path—a bizarre and rhythmic undulation...

Oh crap, have I actually encountered the legendary... ghost? Or even a pair of married ghosts?
