C19 The Feast of Hongmen

This guy was just out to show everyone up. After decades of hard work, the best he could do was put together a program for the evening party. Yet, here comes Lin Haoyu, who in less than a week, manages to take over as the planner of the event.

Hehehe, what did you expect?

As the remarkable protagonist with a system template, how could he not handle something as simple as a Mid-Autumn Festival Gala?

Lin Haoyu chuckled with a smug sense of pride and said with a sneer, "Actually, this has nothing to do with the TV station anymore. They're not in charge now!"

Yu Dandie, feeling increasingly inspired, eagerly looked at Lin Haoyu and nodded.

"Right, right, right. And then?"

"Well, it's no longer the TV station's responsibility. It's in the hands of the Planning Department now."

Yu Dandie was at a loss for words.

Having been excited for nothing, Yu Dandie ended up rolling her eyes at Lin Haoyu and turned away with a nonchalant flip of her hair.

"Really, was that necessary?" Lin Haoyu grumbled as he walked out the door. Before he knew it, he found himself at a small kebab stand by the street.

Since Jian Yang had informed him that the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala was a confidential project, Lin Haoyu wisely held back and didn't say more.

As the old adage goes, kebabs are a step on the ladder to a satisfying meal.

Zuo Qiushu had made plans to dine with Lin Haoyu at the Imperial Dragon Hotel that afternoon, but Lin Haoyu wasn't about to make it easy for him. It was clear he intended to be fashionably late and let the poor guy go hungry for a couple of hours.

In the end, Lin Haoyu couldn't resist the inner temptation. In broad daylight, he boldly pulled out an unusual card from his bag and dialed a mysterious number.

"Hello, this is Watermelon TV..."

Chen Haosi, sitting in the finance department office at Watermelon TV, picked up his phone with a look of impatience.

Since graduating from the University of Finance and Economics in Flitrora, Chen Haosi hadn't found a better opportunity. So he ended up at Watermelon TV, a station with nationwide clout, working as an accountant.

"Yo, Mouse, seems like you've developed quite the temper since joining Watermelon TV!" Lin Haoyu teased with a laugh, devouring skewers of kebabs. In no time, he'd polished off over thirty and, after settling the bill, strolled leisurely toward the Imperial Dragon Hotel. Everyone knows that the VIPs always make their entrance last at formal events, right?

On the other end of the phone, Chen Haosi jolted so violently he nearly overturned the table. He stood up, exclaiming with unbridled excitement, "Damn, Haoyu! You finally decided to give me a call!"

Lin Haoyu was awash with nostalgia. A whole year had passed since graduation, and it was high time to organize a class reunion—especially now that he was a host!

"Of course! I might not call anyone else, but I've got to check in on Mouse, don't I?"

Back in their university days, Lin Haoyu had only a handful of close friends, and that didn't include the wealthy bullies who loved to cause trouble.

Chen Haosi's heart warmed at the thought that Haoyu still valued their friendship. But Haoyu's next remark burst that bubble of illusion:

"After all, you still owe me twenty bucks for that taxi ride when you were wasted. Remember? I was the one who covered it when I took you home."

Chen Haosi: "..."

Right, right, Haoyu will always be Haoyu—time hasn't changed his penny-pinching ways one bit.

"Come on, Haoyu, do you have to be so tight-fisted?"

Chen Haosi mopped the sweat from his brow and chuckled, settling back into his seat with feigned composure.

So much for the excitement.

Lin Haoyu let out a sly chuckle before adding, "How about we pick a date to get all our classmates together for a catch-up?"

He then remembered his upcoming appointment with Zuo Qiushu and quickly interjected, "Actually, scratch that for today. I'm tied up with something else."

Chen Haosi's face brightened, and he tapped the table again, smiling, "Great idea! Since today's Thursday, let's make it this Sunday. We can hang out at Sen Ruida's place. They're loaded!"

Sen Ruida was well-known in our class as a wealthy heir, his family owning a grand hotel and a KTV. He could enjoy complimentary meals and top-notch service there.

Of course, any "special" services were not part of the deal.

Lin Haoyu's lips twisted into a sly grin. "It's settled then."

With a click, he ended the call, leaving Chen Haosi bewildered on the other end.

What was Haoyu up to? Surely he wasn't still thinking of wooing the class beauty? That seemed ill-advised, given that Sen Ruida's infatuation with her was common knowledge...

Striding into the Imperial Dragon Hotel with an air of nonchalance, Lin Haoyu spotted the sullen figure of Zuo Qiushu in the lobby.

Feigning regret, Haoyu called out loudly, scratching his head in a show of self-reproach, "Oh dear, my apologies! I've been so absent-minded lately, I nearly forgot our meeting. I'm not late, am I?"

Late? Zuo Qiushu's heart sank. Glancing at his watch, he noted it was precisely ten o'clock at night, while their agreed time had been seven...

"This kid is damn sneaky. I had planned to dine with him one-on-one, but now Kang Biqin, Xie Chengyun, and Jian Yang are all due to arrive at ten past ten."

If it weren't for the potential funding boost for his show on Watermelon TV, Zuo Qiushu wouldn't have bothered inviting those deputy directors, let alone Lin Haoyu, whom he intended to implicate.

Now, both plans had gone awry.

Out of social courtesy, Zuo Qiushu maintained a grim facade yet forced a twisted smile, his words laced with resentment, "Indeed, how could Brother Yu ever be late?"

"Exactly. Now, let's go have dinner."

Without further ado, Lin Haoyu followed Zuo Qiushu to the reserved private room.

"What's he playing at, inviting me to such an opulent venue for dinner? It's either a trap or he's got an ulterior motive."

As Lin Haoyu eyed the lavish dishes, having visited once before, his unease grew. What exactly was Zuo Qiushu plotting?

It wasn't until Kang Biqin and Xie Chengyun made their entrance that Lin Haoyu finally understood the reason for the gathering.

"Hmm? Lin Haoyu, you're here too!"

Jian Yang's voice came as a pleasant surprise, causing Lin Haoyu to pause for a moment before he rose to his feet with a smile.

"Director Jian Yang, Zuo Qiushu noticed how hard I've been working lately, so he kindly invited me to take a break," Lin Haoyu joked.

Zuo Qiushu was on the verge of cursing out loud. What was this about being invited to relax? He had clearly brought him in for a warning...
