C5 Saveload Cheating Mode
Lin Haoyu immediately suspected something was wrong with his hearing. Memorizing four books in five minutes, and then translating them into Aglon, seemed like an impossible task designed just to torment me!
Kang Biqin set a stopwatch for five minutes and then ignored Lin Haoyu, turning instead to strike up a conversation with the other examiner, Xie Chengyun.
Xie Chengyun had just reached his thirtieth year, but working under Kang Biqin meant he always had to keep a strained smile on his face while engaging in her less-than-stimulating conversations.
"Deputy Director, we're down to one candidate for the host position. Why not just offer it to this young man?" Xie Chengyun suggested with a sycophantic smile, rubbing his somewhat foggy head and heaving a deep sigh.
Even an iron man couldn't keep up with such a demanding recruitment process all day long.
The next second, a cold shiver ran down Xie Chengyun's spine as a shadow passed over Kang Biqin's eyes, and she smirked slyly, "If he can recite the pages I've requested, he'll naturally be suitable for the job. But if not, well... heh heh..."
Upon hearing this, even the naive Xie Chengyun understood and let out a wry laugh. It was clear they were trying to eliminate the competition for Kang Biqin's nephew, who was also vying for the host position.
The stopwatch beeped, snapping Kang Biqin to attention. She lifted her head, gazing down at Lin Haoyu with a cold, superior look.
At that moment, Lin Haoyu was internally defiant.
"Holy crap! The Journey to the West, Dream of the Red Chamber, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and even a Xinhua dictionary! Are they seriously expecting me to memorize a dictionary?"
He nearly let the curse slip out as he glared at Kang Biqin, his face contorted in frustration.
Memorizing a dictionary was out of the question, a lifetime impossibility. Everyone here was talented, and their words were so eloquent...
But as the "Che Guevara" of memorization, Lin Haoyu knew that such luck was not in his cards.
Kang Biqin collected the four thick, hundred-page books from the table, her brow suddenly smoothing out.
"First, I'd like you to memorize the opening pages of 'Journey to the West,' 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms,' and 'Dream of the Red Chamber.' As for the Xinhua Dictionary, memorize the last page."
Kang Biqin's cheeks flushed with excitement as she envisioned her nephew becoming the next television sensation.
"This..."
What in the world?
Lin Haoyu ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, unable to recall even the first page of the Xinhua Dictionary, much less the last.
"Can't do it?" Kang Biqin's smile grew wider, unabashed in front of Lin Haoyu. "Well, then there's no point in continuing."
Xie Chengyun, feeling a sense of injustice, remained silent out of respect for his superior's intimidating presence.
"What, are you seriously going to wait for that good-for-nothing nephew of yours?"
Jian Yang, clearly irritated, raised an eyebrow in question.
"Hmph! Jian Yang, remember, the upcoming retirement and succession of the directorship hinges on whose protégé excels."
Kang Biqin, though inwardly anxious, deftly shifted the challenge to Jian Yang.
She had to decide: stand by Lin Haoyu as her chosen host, or cast him aside for a stronger contender to bolster her bid for the director's position.
Jian Yang regained his composure. While Lin Haoyu didn't have the typical celebrity or influencer look, his presence was refreshingly different.
"Ah, such a missed opportunity for a promising talent."
Jian Yang shook his head in resignation. Under different circumstances, he could have taken Lin Haoyu under his wing for grooming.
Yet, in the world of hosting, it wasn't just about good looks – it was about skill and accumulated experience.
"Lin Haoyu, correct? You can go home and await further instructions."
As the deadlock between the two persisted, Xie Chengyun cleared his throat to catch Lin Haoyu's attention and spoke with a cool detachment.
Stepping outside, Lin Haoyu was still reeling. What just happened?
"Damn! What kind of ridiculous requirement is this? Memorize four books and translate them into Aglon?"
This must be the demand of the top male and female anchors at Shiatan TV Station!
I bet even if Einstein were resurrected, he couldn't boast such an otherworldly memory – memorizing four books in five minutes, including their English translations, is beyond human capability.
Lin Haoyu roamed the streets without purpose. If not for this absurd task assigned by the system, who in their right mind would bother memorizing the four great novels?
The night flew by, and after devouring a bowl of instant noodles with an added egg, Lin Haoyu drifted off to sleep.
Upon waking the next morning, he was still wrestling with the issue.
Ultimately, Lin Haoyu purchased the four books and committed the first and last pages to memory with meticulous care.
"System, are you absolutely certain there are no side effects to using Save/Load?" he inquired, gazing up at the twilight sky, a smirk playing on his lips, devoid of any hint of disappointment.
The system paused for a moment before responding, "If the host is agreeable, there will be no issues. You may load the save now."
The 24-hour cooldown had elapsed, and Lin Haoyu had fully grasped the essentials for the job application.
His vision brightened, and he sprang up from the grass, bellowing ahead, "Damn it! System, load the save right this instant!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the system beeped, and the scenery before Lin Haoyu rewound like a scene played in reverse – first the entrance to Shiatan TV Station, followed by the bustling streets.
"Crash!"
But a split second later, a thunderous collision resounded, catching even Lin Haoyu off guard.
"What in the world?!"
There was no question that Lin Haoyu had been toppled by Yu Dandie's bicycle once more.
He was genuinely aggrieved. It was bad enough being hit by her once, but how could it be that even after using the Save/Load feature, he still couldn't dodge his ill-fated encounter?
"Yu Dandie, have you got it in for me or something?" Lin Haoyu fumed, fixing a fiery glare on the flustered Yu Dandie. His rage meter was maxed out; he felt ready to unleash his special move...
Alas, at that moment, Yu Dandie didn't recognize him at all. How could she possibly grasp the reason for his fury?
Yu Dandie was on the verge of tears. In her haste to get to the Shiatan TV Station to record a program, she had pedaled her bike furiously, never anticipating a traffic jam that led to her crashing into someone.
"I'm so sorry, so sorry!"
With a quiver in her voice, Yu Dandie scrambled out of her car and rushed to assist Lin Haoyu, who was sprawled on the ground.
"Are you okay, young man? Should I take you to the hospital to get checked out?"
As Yu Dandie reached out to help him, Lin Haoyu resisted and managed to stand up, squinting as he pondered the situation.
He had been on his way to the TV station when Yu Dandie had collided with him, resulting in a persistent pain in his knee.
Bearing the discomfort, Lin Haoyu waved her off and fixed her with a steely gaze, his voice edged with frustration,
"I'm fine. I was actually heading to the TV station myself. Are we going the same way?"
