C8 Skytop No 8
After returning home, Zhang Luo decided to take another look at his father's contacts on his phone. One name, Di San, piqued his interest.
As he was about to delve into who Di San might be, Wang Yan knocked on the door.
"Trash, hurry up and take me to Skytop Estates."
I just got back from there, Zhang Luo thought to himself.
"Okay, I'm coming!"
His spoken words never matched his inner thoughts.
Stepping outside, he noticed Wang Yan had dressed up more meticulously than usual.
Yang Jianchuan hadn't taken the car today, so the family's only Volkswagen Passat was parked downstairs. It was only in the car that Zhang Luo learned Wang Yan was visiting a friend's house for a moving-in celebration.
"Look at that girl. She just got married and has already bought a new house in Skytop Estates."
"I have to make sure Yang Yuan marries into wealth. Then I can enjoy some reflected glory."
Zhang Luo's ears were practically calloused from the constant chatter. He turned up the music in the car and gazed out at the passing scenery.
Skytop Estates truly was a beautiful place, nestled between the mountains and the sea. Driving along the coastal highway, Zhang Luo admired the distant view of the estates and couldn't help but be impressed.
They soon arrived at the entrance, where a group of people was waiting for Wang Yan.
Wang Yan instructed him, "Once you've parked, just leave and say you're the driver."
Zhang Luo gave Wang Yan a sidelong glance as a few women approached: "Yan Yan, why are you just arriving?"
"There was a bit of traffic. Congratulations, Liu Chunfen, on moving into your new home!" Wang Yan exclaimed.
"And who is this?" Liu Chunfen inquired, gesturing toward Zhang Luo.
"Hello, Auntie. I'm the Yang family's son-in-law; I've brought my mother here."
Wang Yan's face flushed with embarrassment, and she shot Zhang Luo a glare.
"So, you're the worthless son-in-law from the Wang family. My son-in-law bought this villa. Poor Yang Yuan, to end up with you."
It's just a small villa, what's there to brag about?
Zhang Luo glanced at the Wang family's villa within Skytop Estates. It was one of the smaller ones, not particularly well-situated, its view of the sea obstructed by the villa in front. Only a few side windows on the upper floor offered a glimpse of the Bohai Sea.
Zhang Luo parked the car and followed inside.
"Hey, have you guys seen the video?"
"Today, two millionaires were eyeing the same villa. In the end, one of them snapped it up for 80 million."
"What? 80 million! To my knowledge, the priciest villa around here tops out at 30 million!"
"The video's gone viral. Netizens have affectionately dubbed the millionaire 'Skytop No. 8'."
"Wang Yan, with all these wealthy folks around, how come you haven't found a match for your daughter Yang Yuan?"
Wang Yan's face flushed with embarrassment.
Zhang Luo, on the other hand, was thrilled. He pulled out his phone, delighted to see his own video spreading like wildfire online.
Zhang Luo chuckled to himself. I'm actually quite fond of the nickname 'Skytop No. 8'.
"Dear friends, my family is moving next month. Yang Yuan and I warmly invite you all. You must come and join us!"
Zhang Luo made his way through the crowd and called out.
Wang Yan shot Zhang Luo a glare. Yang Yuan had just landed a project and hadn't even received the payment yet, and here they were, talking about moving?
"Hahaha, did you hear that? Wang Yan, your son-in-law, the deadbeat, is promising to move you into a new house."
Liu Chunfen leaned on Wang Yan, chuckling.
"A jobless deadbeat planning to buy a house? Is it going to be one of those derelict buildings in Old Town?"
Liu Chunfen turned to her friends, sharing the joke.
The laughter was still echoing when the homeowners appeared.
A gentleman in a suit, arm in arm with a lady in an evening gown, approached.
Seeing Wang Yan, he promptly offered a toast. "Aunt Wang, it's been too long. You should visit our new place more often."
"Also, Aunt Wang, allow me to introduce you. This is the HR director of Qian Sheng Group, my husband, Xu Bin."
The girl then gave Liu Chunfen a knowing look.
As it happened, Liu Chunfen and Wang Yan had been lifelong rivals, always trying to outdo one another since childhood, with Wang Yan never coming up short.
Now, her daughter married to a loser, Wang Yan had become the butt of jokes. And today, he had made a fool of himself at someone else's party.
Unable to save face, Wang Yan made an excuse and hastily left.
As soon as Wang Yan exited the gates of Skytop Estates, she began berating Zhang Luo in the car.
"You were supposed to say you were the driver, yet you eagerly admitted you're my son-in-law."
"And what's this about moving in a month? Where to? How can you afford a house?"
"You're good for nothing, always leaving nothing behind. You're driving me crazy."
Zhang Luo drove Wang Yan home, enduring her constant muttering along the way. After dropping her off, he headed straight to the Comoxize Building.
Upon reaching Gao Yuan's office, the secretary intercepted Zhang Luo.
"Sir, the general manager isn't in. Please wait in the reception room."
Zhang Luo glanced in the direction the secretary indicated, where a modestly-sized reception room was packed with people.
"Are all these people here for Gao Yuan?" Zhang Luo inquired.
"Yes, our general manager has been quite busy. They've been here several times without a chance to meet him." Ignoring the secretary, Zhang Luo pushed open the office door.
"Sir, you can't just barge in. I'll have to call security."
The secretary called out as Zhang Luo shut the door behind him, waking Gao Yuan with the loud noise.
"Didn't I say no disturbances? Can't you see I'm resting?"
Gao Yuan, still groggy, yelled at Zhang Luo.
Zhang Luo lit a cigarette. "Need me to help you wake up?"
Gao Yuan blinked away sleep and was startled to see Zhang Luo sitting before him.
"Mr. Zhang, what brings you here?"
"Have you forgotten the last thing I told you?"
"Of course not, I wouldn't dare."
Gao Yuan handed Zhang Luo a glass of water. He wouldn't be so concerned if it weren't for the fact that Zhang Luo could hack his network and cost him millions at any moment.
"You seem quite comfortable, sleeping here while a crowd waits outside for you."
As Zhang Luo finished speaking, three security guards burst through the door.
The secretary pointed at Zhang Luo and demanded, "That's the guy. Throw him out!"
The noise in the reception room led others to believe Gao Yuan had come back, so they followed suit.
Gao Yuan quickly ducked under his desk. Zhang Luo chuckled at the sight, but his amusement was short-lived as the security guards approached to restrain him.
Having snuffed out his cigarette, Zhang Luo was no stranger to bar brawls.
As a guard moved to pin him down, Zhang Luo intended to fight back, only to discover his limbs acting on their own accord. With a swift motion, he hoisted a guard into the air and slammed him to the ground, then delivered a powerful kick to another's midsection, sending both flying several meters.
What was happening? Why weren't his limbs obeying him?
While Zhang Luo was still trying to make sense of it all, a baton swung at his head.
He instinctively dodged and counterattacked, leaving a boot print on the guard's face. The three guards scrambled to their feet and fled, batons in hand.
The female secretary was petrified. How could someone so slender possess such strength?
Zhang Luo was just as bewildered, aware only of what he had seen, with no clue about the rest of his body's actions.
He rapped on the desk, "Come out now!"
Gao Yuan had assumed the three guards could easily handle Zhang Luo. When he stood up and saw Zhang Luo standing before him, his heart sank.
He could accept his technical department's shortcomings, but to think that not even three guards could take down one man!
"Mr. Zhang, you're quite the fighter, as skilled in martial arts as you are in the arts. You could give Di San of Zruhpus a run for his money," Gao Yuan remarked, eyeing the formidable man before him.
"Who is Di San?" inquired Zhang Luo.
