C9 Zruhpus Di San
Gao Yuan looked at Zhang Luo, surprised that he didn't even recognize Di San of Zruhpus.
"Di San controls a third of Zruhpus's underground territory. His operations are so stealthy that he's risen to power alongside the city's two major forces in just a few years," Gao Yuan explained.
Was this the same Di San that Gao Yuan mentioned, the one in his father's phone contacts?
After getting the name of the bar where Di San frequently hung out, Zhang Luo turned to leave, "I'll be back if I need anything else."
"Mr. Zhang, I appreciate your help..."
Gao Yuan gestured towards the reception room by the entrance.
Zhang Luo understood the hint. He walked over to the reception room's doorway and asked, "Are you all here to see Gao Yuan?"
The people inside nodded at Zhang Luo, having all witnessed his earlier display of force. The reception room fell silent.
"What a mess," Zhang Luo grumbled. "Listen, Gao Yuan, if you don't show up, I'll take it out on your security guards every time I see them."
He then pretended to be on a phone call.
"Do you have any idea how many people are waiting for you?"
"What, you're on a business trip? Not back for two days! You should've said something sooner, made me wait around like an idiot."
Had he not become a stay-at-home son-in-law, he might have been a brilliant actor. Pretending to end the call, he kicked the glass table in front of him to pieces. The reception room's occupants were stunned, scattering in a panic to avoid any harm from Zhang Luo's outburst.
Hearing the phone call, they lost their patience to wait any longer. After two days without a glimpse of Gao Yuan, they all headed for the elevator.
Once everyone had cleared out, Zhang Luo bent down, clutching his foot and rubbing vigorously. Kicking the table had hurt more than he expected.
He reflected on the earlier scuffle with the security guards; it was only when they posed a threat that he could harness such control over his body.
Leaving the Comoxize Building, Zhang Luo settled into his car and pondered why Gao Yuan, a man of wealth and influence, would fear these people.
Zhang Luo called Gao Yuan, "What's with the crowd outside?"
"They're all here to discuss partnerships. Since I've already signed with you, they feel it's unfair."
"Now they're driving the price down, all eager for a share of the profits. Tomorrow's the signing ceremony, with reporters present. I'll sign a ceremonial contract with Ms. Yang Yuan for the public eye."
Gao Yuan explained over the phone.
"Well done!"
Zhang Luo offered these four words of praise before hanging up.
Could he afford not to do well? A cyber attack could mean more than just monetary losses. Gao Yuan harbored a silent frustration.
Soon after, Zhang Luo reached the entrance of Ten Sun Bar.
He parked and was met by several tough-looking guys blocking the entrance.
"What's your business here?"
A towhead among them demanded.
"I'm here to see Di San."
"Damn, you think you can just call for Di San?"
The two goons lunged at Zhang Luo.
Aware of his defensive skills, Zhang Luo stood his ground without flinching.
As expected, as the fist neared, he leaned back and delivered a swift roundhouse kick, leaving a pair of distinct footprints on the hooligan's face.
The other thugs, seeing their comrade downed, rolled up their sleeves, ready to jump in. Zhang Luo just smiled nonchalantly.
They couldn't harm him, and he reveled in that fact.
Before long, the hooligans were all sprawled on the ground, groaning in pain.
Just then, a man emerged from the Ten Sun Bar, flanked by several in suits and a gang of rough types brandishing knives and baseball bats.
"Who dares to cause trouble at my Di San's establishment?"
The man at the forefront spoke up.
Zhang Luo observed the man, clad in a black Tang suit with a dragon embroidered in gold across the chest.
This had to be Di San, Zhang Luo surmised.
"Hold on, are there multiple Di Sans in Zruhpus?"
"Hahaha..."
Zhang Luo's question had everyone in stitches.
"How many do you think there should be?"
"So, it's you. Do you know Zhang Kunsheng?"
Zhang Luo cautiously tested the waters, curious to see Di San's reaction upon hearing his father's name.
Di San's face turned grave in an instant.
"You all, guard the door. You, come with me."
The bar was dimly lit as Zhang Luo followed Di San into one of the private rooms.
Di San settled onto the couch while one of his thugs handed him a black cigar, lighting it for him.
"How do you know Zhang Kunsheng?"
After dismissing his men with a wave of his hand, Di San turned to question Zhang Luo.
"Before he left, my father gave me your number. I found out you were here and decided to come directly without calling ahead."
"Has the master passed away?"
Di San set aside his cigar, his gaze fixed on Zhang Luo.
"Yes, he has."
Zhang Luo replied, his head bowed.
"So, you're the young master? Here's my number; it might be different from the one your father had. Take it down. If the Crown Prince ever finds himself in trouble, I'll be there through thick and thin."
With tears glistening in his eyes, Di San knelt before Zhang Luo, who, taken aback at first, quickly helped Di San to his feet.
This was no ordinary man; he was one of the top three gang leaders in Zruhpus!
His men, who could have easily overwhelmed Zhang Luo with sheer numbers, were at his command.
Zhang Luo recounted the details of his father's passing to Di San. Hearing of his master's death, Di San was visibly moved, reminiscing about the times they had shared, his eyes brimming with tears.
They briefly discussed their personal affairs and found they had much in common.
After some time, Zhang Luo checked his watch. Yang Yuan was about to finish work. Explaining he had to leave, Zhang Luo bid Di San farewell.
Arriving at the Exbought building, Zhang Luo was relieved he wasn't late. He dashed across the street to buy a pack of cigarettes and struck up a brief conversation with the shopkeeper. Spotting Yang Yuan descending the stairs, he bid the elderly shopkeeper goodbye and walked home with Yang Yuan.
"Yang Yuan, you're finally home!"
Upon seeing Zhang Luo and Yang Yuan walk in, Wang Yan eagerly pulled Yang Yuan aside.
"You wouldn't believe how much that good-for-nothing infuriated me today."
Wang Yan went on, "Liu Chunfen invited me over to see the new villa her son-in-law bought, and seeing that loser at home, I had him drive me there. I told him to say he was your driver, but no, he outright admitted he was my son-in-law."
"But he is your son-in-law!"
Yang Yuan chimed in, barely containing her laughter. Meanwhile, Zhang Luo was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen, overhearing the conversation between Yang Yuan and Wang Yan.
Wang Yan noticed a significant shift in Yang Yuan's attitude toward her husband and pressed on.
"You have no idea, in front of a whole crowd, he announced we're moving next month! And he invited everyone to come over!"
Yang Yuan was aware that the deal with Comoxize could be quite lucrative, and she had indeed considered moving, but she had never discussed it with Zhang Luo. How did he know, and why extend an invitation in front of so many people?
Even if the project was to be completed, it would take at least six months. One month in, the project would be in full swing, and the funds couldn't be touched. Yang Yuan decided not to delve deeper. If Zhang Luo was trying to save face, she might have to prematurely allocate the funds.
"Yuanyuan, you need to divorce this deadbeat. Look at Liu Chunfen's son-in-law, buying villas and serving as the HR director of his company," Wang Yan insisted, harboring hopes of Yang Yuan divorcing Zhang Luo.
"Mom, the company has just taken on a huge project. Let's not talk about this now. I don't need any distractions," Yang Yuan replied before retreating to her bedroom.
"Sweetheart, you've been working so hard these past few days. I've made your favorite braised pork," Zhang Luo said tenderly, placing a piece of lean meat into Yang Yuan's bowl.
"Tomorrow is the signing ceremony. Once it's over, we'll start advertising and coordinating with the construction crew."
These past few days had been exhausting for Yang Yuan. With numerous companies eyeing the project, securing it meant she would be squarely in the crosshairs of many major players.
After finishing her meal, Yang Yuan returned to her room and immersed herself in work on her computer.
