C1944 Broken Jade!

This idiom is found in the Book of Northern Qi, The Story of Yuan-Jing An: "A real man would rather be shattered by a piece of jade than by a piece of clay!"

This story did not spread far, it was about the Southern and Northern Dynasties when the Eastern Wei Great General Gao Yang plotted against them, and how Wei Yan Jing became the emperor and became the king, thus becoming the Northern Qi
