Wiesanburg's French Army was defeated miserably, but the actual casualties weren't high. Although the dark night gave attacker a huge advantage, it also gave the routed soldiers the best camouflage.

Out of the more than ten thousand Soldiers in First Division, only three to four thousand people were actually captured. The remaining six thousand people were scattered around the battlefield
