C2 A Mission
Wang Yufei couldn't help but laugh. He had initially intended to be more severe and force that cursed Lee Tianhu to slay a higher-level demon beast.
However, Yufei soon realized that the greater the discrepancy between the mission level and the recipient's level, the more points he would have to expend.
Consequently, Yufei had no choice but to assign a mission that matched Lee Tianhu's level, which would only cost him one point. Still, it was sure to give Lee Tianhu a run for his money.
The task was to kill a low-level eight-star demon beast within an hour—a formidable challenge, as an eight-star demon beast's combat power was comparable to that of Lee Tianhu, a nine-star warrior.
But Lee Tianhu had awakened his low-level python talent, so he might be up to the task. Whether he could succeed within the hour was anyone's guess. Lee Tianhu's python talent was formidable indeed.
It was this very talent that had bested Yufei. Now, Yufei's top priority was to rapidly enhance his own strength to protect both himself and his loved ones.
He couldn't bear to see his cousin subjected to others' scorn. Without hesitation, Yufei activated the Double Cultivation Experience Card. Although it lasted only a day, he was immensely grateful for it.
"Ding. Congratulations, host, for activating the Double Cultivation Card. You now have the double experience effect, which will enable you to cultivate twice as efficiently for 24 hours. After the time expires, the card will be voided, and you will earn two points."
Yufei leapt up in excitement. He hadn't expected to earn two points simply by using the Double Cultivation Card—it was like an unexpected windfall.
Taking a deep breath, Yufei noticed that he was absorbing spiritual energy much faster than usual, as if he truly had a double of himself practicing simultaneously.
However, the spiritual energy in his room was insufficient. Yufei knew he had to move to the sect's cultivation chamber—the true haven for cultivators.
Wang Yufei burst through the door, eager to escape the laughter of the onlookers. Unfazed by their mockery, Yufei now possessed a system within himself, a golden finger that allowed him to assign missions to others.
With enough points accumulated, Yufei intended to exact revenge on those who ridiculed him. He planned to not only take their lives but to use them to gather all the resources he required.
As he made his way to the cultivation room, a familiar argument caught his attention.
"You have no right to call my cousin worthless. Apologize to him now, or I swear I won't let you get away with this."
Yufei's gaze landed on Wang Xianglan, her cheeks flushed with anger, her body quivering, and her beautiful, large eyes misted with tears, as if she were on the brink of crying from frustration.
Yufei didn't need to guess; these people must have been insulting him, and Xianglan had overheard, prompting her to confront them.
"Really, Wang Xianglan, have you lost your mind? Keep your distance from your worthless cousin, or you'll end up just like him in everyone's eyes," jeered Yao Li, who was Lee Tianhu's cousin. Rumor had it that Tianhu harbored a secret crush on Yao Li, but Yufei couldn't confirm if the gossip was true. Nevertheless, a thrill of delight crossed his face.
With two points remaining, why shouldn't Yufei assign Xianglan another simple task?
"Wang Xianglan, if you slap Li Yao three times within the next hour, you will receive the following reward. Would you like to see the reward?"
"System, show me the reward," Yufei silently commanded, albeit at the cost of one point.
The first reward was a "Defensive Vest with Attribute Points," a consumable item that could bolster defense by three points without affecting speed or attack power, with a durability of three months.
The second reward was the "Thunderbolt Divine Fist," a fire attribute, low-level technique. It was a consumable that allowed for a powerful burst of energy in a short time, easily inflicting damage on an opponent. The technique was rated one star.
Reward 3: The Flame Dagger, a small and exquisite weapon, is one of the most suitable choices for girls. Its passive ability gives you a 10% chance to ignite your opponent with flames during combat, maximizing your chances of success.
Wang Yufei was pleasantly surprised to find three potential rewards to choose from, though he knew he could only select one. Without hesitation, he chose the Flame Dagger.
"System, is it possible for me to choose one of the remaining two items as my reward?" Wang Yufei inquired with curiosity.
He considered the other two rewards quite appealing: a defensive vest and the Thunderbolt Divine Fist.
"Of course, you may choose," the system replied, "but your points will remain the same." Meanwhile, Wang Xianglan was on the verge of slapping Li Yaoyao when the sect's mission echoed in her ears once more.
"Mission for Li Xianglan: Slap Li Yaoyao three times within one hour to receive a Flame Dagger. Mission triggered successfully."
Wang Xianglan was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. She hadn't expected the sect to treat her so well, bestowing upon her two such effortless missions. The first mission involved stepping on a cockroach to earn a pair of boxing gloves, and now, the second mission promised her a Flame Dagger for slapping Li Yaoyao three times. She was so thrilled she was nearly in tears. Without any hesitation, she knew that Li Yaoyao was no match for her in terms of strength. At worst, Li Yaoyao might seek someone to retaliate against her.
Li Yaoyao's vision blurred as a fair, delicate hand swiftly delivered three stinging slaps to her powdered cheek, leaving her nearly dazed.
The onlooking girls gasped and covered their mouths in shock. If it weren't for the pain that snapped Li Yaoyao back to reality, she might have believed she was experiencing a hallucination.
"Wang Xianglan, how dare you hit me? Have you lost your mind? I'm going to flay you alive today!" Li Yaoqian, furious and disregarding all else, lunged at Wang Xianglan like a wildcat, claws ready to scratch.
Regrettably, Li Yaoqian's level was quite low, comparable only to that of Wang Xianglan. Yet, due to Li Yaoqian's newly awakened talent, her combat prowess should not be taken lightly, despite it being of a lower tier.
"You've brought this upon yourself, Wang Xianglan. I refuse to believe that with my awakened talent, I'm still no match for you," Li Yaoqian declared. Then, she closed her eyes. When she reopened them, her eyes sparkled like peach blossoms in bloom.
Abruptly, above Li Yaoqian's head, a majestic, ethereal phoenix materialized. It was a grand sight, shimmering with golden brilliance. Even the feathers on the phoenix's form were strikingly luminous.
"Is this Li Yaoqian's talent? The Flight of the Phoenix, capable of boosting her speed by three points and her strength by five points?"
Concerned that his cousin Wang Xianglan might be at a disadvantage, Wang Yufei set aside the convention of men not striking women. As Li Yaoqian prepared to harness her talent, Yufei launched a swift punch from behind.
Caught off guard by the sneak attack and Yufei's impressive speed, Li Yaoqian felt a rush of air at her back. It was too late for her to mount a defense.
Fortuitously, the phoenix hovering above Li Yaoqian swiftly veered and dove at Yufei. Accompanied by a resounding thud, the spectral phoenix vanished.
Yufei winced as pain shot through his fist. Looking down, he noticed several white feathers lodged between his fingers. Was this the manifestation of talent? Though the phoenix was but a phantom, its feathers were tangible enough to wound Yufei's fingers.
