C21 Kneel(1)

Although the mission had been swapped, the rewards remained the same. Essentially, Wang Yufei's task was to gather a single blade of grass in the Howling Peaks, yet the reward for this was equivalent to that of eliminating a notorious thief.

Yet, Wang Yufei scoffed at such paltry rewards. With his own system, he could easily craft missions for others, reaping far richer rewards in the process. Upon reviewing the current mission, he noted that the reward was a mere three low-grade spirit stones.

With a sense of obligation, Wang Yufei accepted the stones. To prevent any unforeseen events, he took Lee Tianhu and Wang Tianmeng with him to the sect's mission distribution site. Each mission was displayed at the sect's entrance, projected onto a large jade stone.

This stone, as big as a dining table and with a surface as polished as a mirror, was now surrounded by a throng of people. Some disciples were visibly distressed, their fists clenched, eyes reddened, bodies shaking—likely due to being assigned particularly challenging tasks. Others were beaming with joy, their excitement palpable as they celebrated, perhaps because the day's mission promised them another day of survival.

Wang Yufei almost laughed at the sight. With a mere whim, he could alter their fates, making any mission insurmountable. This power explained why Zhang Tianmeng would so persistently cling to him.

In the crowd, Wang Yufei spotted Luo Wudi, an acquaintance whose original mission had been to take down a thief. However, thanks to Wang Yufei's last-minute intervention, Luo Wudi's task had shifted to slaying demon beasts in the Howling Peaks. "What's happening here? Why did my mission change? I wonder if the reward will be different. But to send me after demon beasts—it's simply beneath my abilities," Luo Wudi grumbled, surrounded by his peers who could not contest his point, for they all knew he spoke the truth.

No one dared to contradict Luo Wudi's words, as they were spoken from the heart, and there was no ground for rebuttal. It seemed excessive for a Three-star Apprentice of Might to be tasked with slaying a demonic beast.

"It's truly a waste of talent. I can't fathom what the sect elders are thinking, allowing our eldest senior brother to waste his skills on such a trivial demon beast."

"Isn't that the truth? And now, who will the mission to take down the Flower Thief fall upon?"

"Take a look, am I seeing things correctly? The mission to kill the Flower Thief has been assigned to Wang Shaofeng." Amidst a chorus of disbelief, many turned their attention to the matter.

Poor Wang Shaofeng had really been through the wringer. His ribs were broken due to a sneak attack by Wang Yufei. If not for the healing powers of his master, Old Man Witherwood, who used his own spiritual energy to mend Wang Shaofeng's wounds and provided him with numerous precious medicinal pills.

Wang Shaofeng was still bedridden. His recovery had been arduous, and whether by divine favor or not, today he only needed to acquire the hide of a low-level three-star demonic beast to fulfill his mission.

His cultivation resources for the day were secure, but due to Wang Yufei manipulating the system to alter the mission parameters, the daunting task of killing the Flower Thief had unexpectedly fallen to Wang Shaofeng.

Wang Shaofeng was petrified. Had it not been for the swift reaction of a few fellow disciples who caught him, he might have collapsed to the ground in fear.

"What am I to do, Senior Brother? I have no desire to confront the Flower Thief; his powers surpass mine." Wang Shaofeng was as pitiful as a dog, crawling on the ground to Luo Wudi for help.

Luo Wudi was bewildered. What exactly was happening? The mission assignments seemed to have been thrown into disarray, and only Luo Wudi was aware that Old Man Witherwood was on the verge of a successful entry into the Elder Council, becoming one of its members.

Soon, Old Man Witherwood would be able to assign simpler missions to his disciples, much like today's easy task that Wang Shaofeng received, all because Old Man Witherwood was about to join the Elder Council.

What's happening now? The task that was originally Wang Shaofeng's had somehow become Wang Xianglan's responsibility. In truth, this switch was orchestrated by Wang Yufei. While Wang Xianglan's initial task wasn't particularly difficult, it certainly wasn't a walk in the park either.

Now, the burden of Wang Shaofeng's task had been thrust upon Wang Xianglan. To give an example, today Wang Xianglan was tasked with assisting a villager in slaying a low-level four-star crocodile.

Everyone knew that a crocodile's hide was incredibly tough, and their combat abilities were even more fearsome. Wang Xianglan was initially puzzled about how she would manage to kill this crocodile.

But the situation had changed. Now, all Wang Xianglan needed to do was secure a three-star beast skin, which was a straightforward task for her.

"Wang Xianglan, you wretch! It's no wonder people are saying you're involved with the Elder Council. I didn't want to believe it, but with the evidence right before us, what can you say in your defense?" Wang Shaofeng ranted wildly, clearly losing his grip on reality.

His face twisted with rage, he grabbed Wang Xianglan's wrist and shook it violently. Just moments before, Wang Xianglan had been perplexed about why her mission had suddenly become easier. Startled by Wang Shaofeng's yelling, she jumped in shock.

"Wang Shaofeng, let go of me! What are you even saying? Aren't we family?" Wang Xianglan's voice was tinged with emotion. Could this really be something her older brother would say? To accuse her of having an affair with a member of the Elder Council?

Wang Xianglan's explanation only seemed to make things worse, giving Wang Shaofeng the impression that she was being smug about her good fortune. He laughed hysterically, as if he had gone completely mad.

"So, you won't admit it? The evidence is irrefutable. Why has the mission that was mine now become yours? Have you been taking such good care of the Elder Council members?" Wang Shaofeng's accusations grew more absurd by the minute.

It seemed he was intent on unleashing all his recent frustrations on Wang Xianglan. In response, Wang Xianglan delivered a fierce slap to Wang Shaofeng's cheek, making him stumble.

Under normal circumstances, a slap from Wang Xianglan wouldn't have been enough to unbalance Wang Shaofeng. However, he had only just recovered from his injuries and was still weak, nearly falling to the ground.

"You wretched woman, how dare you strike me? A young woman like you, sleeping with those old men, you've utterly shamed our family." Wang Shaofeng's words were as shocking as they were cruel.

Meanwhile, Wang Xianglan was beside herself with anger, tears streaming down her face. Thankfully, her best friend Lavender was right there, soothing her frayed nerves. Just then, the crowd parted, and a stoic young man stepped forward, planting his foot firmly on Wang Shaofeng's back.

The force of the blow sent Wang Shaofeng sprawling. The onlookers, initially indignant at being shoved aside, fell silent at the sight of the newcomer—it was Wang Yufei.

The crowd was both fearful of and intrigued by Wang Yufei. They were terrified by his successful ambush of Wang Shaofeng and his grip on the man's ribs, yet they couldn't quite believe their eyes.

But the sight of the two burly men standing behind Wang Yufei chilled them to the bone. With one foot on Wang Shaofeng's neck, Wang Yufei exerted a crushing pressure, his presence dominating.

"Repeat what you just said, you fool. Do you think I won't end you right here and now?" Wang Yufei's voice boomed, causing Wang Shaofeng to shake uncontrollably.

A pungent scent of urine filled the air; Wang Shaofeng had been frightened to the point of wetting himself. If word of this got out, how could he ever show his face again?

"It wasn't me talking nonsense; someone else told me, and I have proof." Wang Shaofeng was clearly terrified. The thought of his ribs, inexplicably broken by Wang Yufei, sent his heart racing in panic, almost bringing him to tears.
