C15 It Was a Misunderstanding
"Keep dreaming!" Su Weiwei exclaimed, swiftly aiming a slap at Soong Fei's face.
Catching her delicate hand mid-air, Soong Fei gave a roguish grin. "I meant it as a performance."
"A performance? How?" Skepticism flickered in Su Weiwei's eyes.
"We let them 'accidentally' find our WeChat conversation, then they'll try to catch us in the act—no, I mean, they'll try to break us apart," Soong Fei suggested, arching an eyebrow and speaking in hushed tones.
"That's a bit extreme, isn't it?"
"Desperate times call for drastic measures!"
"Chen Le mustn't find out about this."
"Obviously."
...
In the hotel room, Su Weiwei lay on the bed, her shoulders and collarbone exposed.
Soong Fei stood at the door, his back to her. Noticing his tense and reserved demeanor, Su Weiwei let out a soft chuckle. She considered Soong Fei dependable; he wasn't one to cross lines. Secretly, she had an electric baton in her bag, ready to teach Soong Fei a lesson if he dared to entertain any inappropriate ideas.
"You think they'll show up?" Soong Fei asked, deflecting his awkwardness.
"Relax. My brother trailed me for quite a while when I left."
"Why haven't they arrived yet?"
Mid-conversation, a commanding voice echoed from outside the door.
"Open up!"
It was a deep, authoritative voice. Soong Fei and Su Weiwei instantly recognized it as Liao Bilin's.
"Why is he here?"
"It's got to be my mom's doing," Su Weiwei fretted.
Though taken aback, the situation was still within Soong Fei's grasp. He quickly composed himself, ready to face what was coming.
With that thought, Soong Fei reached for the door.
"Don't! They'll beat you to a pulp," Su Weiwei blurted out in alarm, reaching for Soong Fei. But as she rose, the blanket slipped, and she hastily sat back down.
"Well, this might work out for the best. We can deal with it all at once."
By then, Soong Fei had slowly opened the door, summoning his King Qi skill. A crowd was waiting outside.
As they caught sight of Soong Fei, a shadow fell over their faces, darkening their expressions.
"Bastard, I'm going to end you."
At the entrance, a menacingly large man let out a furious roar and swung his fist at Soong Fei.
The man was barely 5'5" and tipped the scales at over 530 pounds.
Soong Fei deftly sidestepped, swiftly grabbing the man's wrist. With a quick leg sweep, he sent the man tumbling to the ground with surprising ease.
The combat skills Soong Fei had acquired proved to be quite effective.
The hefty man, now sprawled on the floor, tried to hurl insults but his gaze landed on Su Weiwei.
Su Weiwei tightened her grip on the bedsheet around her. The sight prompted the man to yell, "Mom, my sister's in the room!"
"Her clothes are all over the couch."
At the doorway, Liu Sujuan's cheeks were instantly etched with a frosty expression.
She had thought Su Weiwei was merely being spiteful, not expecting her to take things this far.
A mix of anger and panic washed over her, her face a canvas of shock.
She refrained from berating Soong Fei, instead turning to a casually dressed man.
This man, in his thirties, had a respectable appearance but now looked ashen.
He was Liao Bilin, the notorious boss of Jingjiang City's Seven-Star District.
"Bilin, Weiwei doesn't understand the situation. I'll have her apologize to you," she pleaded.
"Please, give her another chance."
With a sharp smack, Liao Bilin slapped the woman across the face, his voice icy, "The Su family has really outdone themselves. From now on, there will be no place for them in Jingjiang City."
"Young Master Liao, Weiwei must be putting on an act. Just because her clothes are on the sofa doesn't mean anything happened."
The woman turned to Soong Fei, her voice urgent, "Tell the truth, did Weiwei pay you to pretend? A wrong word could cost lives here."
Soong Fei glanced at Su Weiwei, silently asking for her cue.
Before he could respond, Liao Bilin interjected.
"Do you really think I, Liao Bilin, am desperate for women?"
He stared into the room, addressing Su Weiwei directly, "I offered to marry you to honor the Su family. But you, you're nothing but a tramp. Remember this – even if you come crawling to me in the future, you can forget about joining the Liao family."
He turned his gaze to Soong Fei and sneered, "You've got some nerve. You won't live to see tomorrow's sunrise, but even in death, you'll still be wearing the cuckold's cap."
"I'll make sure Su Weiwei's lovers could fill an entire hotel—that's a promise I intend to keep."
Soong Fei's eyes grew colder. "Wow, that's quite the claim. You've got the audacity to speak to me like that? Do you even know who I am?"
He had no respect for those who preyed on the weak, and even less for those who mistreated women.
Liao Bilin's expression shifted subtly. "And who might you be?"
"That's not for you to know."
"Heh, lost your nerve, have you?" Liao Bilin's laugh was icy as he turned to leave.
"Where do you think you're going? Did I say you could leave?"
Liao Bilin found Soong Fei's icy tone particularly grating. Today, he had gotten engaged to Su Weiwei, yet she had caused such a scandal.
And the news had spread far and wide.
All thanks to Guo Yan, who had deliberately orchestrated a dinner party.
He laid a trap, allowing Guo Yan to boast before his cronies.
And it was he who had fanned the flames behind the scenes.
Guo Yan's strategy was akin to pitting a tiger against a wolf, or using another's hand to deal the fatal blow.
Humiliated, Liao Bilin would have struck Soong Fei down then and there if not for the inappropriateness of causing a scene in the hotel.
Now, Soong Fei had the audacity to order him to halt. He turned back, fixing Soong Fei with a frosty stare, "What more do you have to say?"
"Apologize to Weiwei. She's mine, and if you don't apologize today, I'll make your life a living hell."
Liao Bilin bore into Soong Fei with his gaze, searching for any hint of falsehood.
But Soong Fei stood unflappable, exuding an unmistakable regal presence.
Such an aura couldn't be easily faked.
As the head of Liao Corporation, Liao Bilin was accustomed to rubbing shoulders with the elite.
Yet none possessed the commanding presence Soong Fei held.
He racked his brain for any information on Soong Fei but came up empty.
"He's not from Jingjiang City?"
Though Jingjiang City wasn't particularly large, Liao Bilin was well aware that there were always bigger fish in the sea.
Given Su Weiwei's striking looks, it wouldn't be surprising if she caught the eye of some wealthy suitor from beyond the city limits.
Liao Bilin managed to suppress the rage boiling inside him and said, "Miss Su, I was mistaken earlier. My apologies."
He actually apologized!
The entire room was taken aback by his words, Su Weiwei included.
Could Soong Fei truly have an influential background?
It seemed unlikely; even prominent individuals often preferred a modest appearance.
But Liao Bilin didn't dare gamble on it. If Soong Fei turned out to be a high-rolling scion from another metropolis, the Liao family might not be able to handle the repercussions.
