C5 Father and Son Game!
In no time at all, Soong Fei had intercepted a drink meant for Su Weiwei. He feigned a woozy head—yes, feigned! There's truth to the saying: no risk, no reward. But in reality, after receiving the "thousand cups undrunk" prize, liquor was as benign as water to Soong Fei, causing at most a bit of a bloated stomach.
Internally, Soong Fei mused, "This isn't working. If I'm the only one drinking, it defeats the purpose." With that, he shifted his approach from defense to offense.
Rising to his feet, glass in hand, he declared, "Here's to you, Brother Liao Binn. To our first meeting—cheers!" And with that, he downed the drink in one gulp.
Liao Binn, Lee Qian's boyfriend, watched as Soong Fei initiated the drink. Both Lee Qian and another young man looked uneasy. This was no mere toast; it was a battle cry.
Liao Binn had his own calculations. He had set out to probe Lee Qian on behalf of Chen Le, only to genuinely fall for her. He suspected Soong Fei saw him as a love thief, out for retribution over drinks.
In any other circumstance, Liao Binn wouldn't spare a second glance for someone he deemed a penniless yokel. If Soong Fei truly sought trouble, Liao Binn would simply pay to have his henchmen break Soong Fei's legs.
However, given Soong Fei's apparent rapport with Su Weiwei, Liao Binn dared not cross her for reasons best kept to himself. To Liao Binn, Soong Fei was nothing more than a dog hiding behind his owner's power.
Seething inside yet smiling outwardly, Liao Binn lifted his glass and cheerfully said, "Brother Fei, please, have a seat. No need for formalities—let's just drink and be merry!"
"Absolutely! To merriment!" Soong Fei replied, tilting his head back and taking another hearty swig of white wine.
His face was the perfect blend of sour and exhilarated!
Keep this up, and he might just snag the next Oscar.
Liao Binn went ghostly pale.
Holy crap!
This is 43-degree Flying Maotai!
You might not mind blowing cash, but you've gotta value your life!
No choice, though. When it's a battle over a woman, Liao Binn might not be all that into Lee Qian, but his pride's on the line. No way he's showing weakness.
Besides, what man admits he can't handle his drink?
Head back, he went for broke!
Soong Fei was already pouring his second cup, making Liao Binn's scalp tingle!
Shit! He's going for another!
Any white liquor drinker knows that chugging cup after cup is a rookie's game.
Liao Binn's tolerance was low; one cup in and he was already groaning.
But before he could catch his breath, Soong Fei was back, cup in hand, ready for another round.
Cue the drama king! Time for a show!
"Brother Liao Binn, no more words – the drink says it all!"
"Uh... okay!"
Liao Binn was halfway through his second when Soong Fei's third cup was already en route...
"Brother Liao Binn, here's to a lifetime of bliss with Lee Qian!"
"Hold on, I can't do this..."
"Hey! A man doesn't back down, come on!"
"I... okay, fine!"
The fourth cup was like entering the fray.
"Liao Binn, this one's for you and Lee Qian – may you have a house full of kids!"
"I'll be damned..."
Truth be told, Liao Binn wasn't even sure if he'd heard right.
Damn, this is dizzying, the alcohol's hitting hard!
"Liao Binn, wishing you and your mom health and happiness!"
"Crap, I..."
"Ha! Here's to happiness for your whole family!"
Liao Binn was spinning.
Did someone just toast his mom? Or was that his buzzed brain mishearing?
Frankly, Liao Binn was teetering on the edge, his mind sluggish, everything double-visioned.
He couldn't even recall how many cups he'd downed.
But one thing was certain: whenever Soong Fei raised his cup, he'd follow suit – only a coward wouldn't!
Lee Qian persistently attempted to dissuade him, but he found her nagging intolerable. In his drunken state, he brushed off Lee Qian with a surprisingly forceful gesture.
Noticing his inebriation, Lee Qian turned to Soong Fei with beseeching eyes and implored, "Soong Fei, please, no more drinking. He can't handle any more..."
In the past, Soong Fei would have undoubtedly been moved by her plea.
He wouldn't have held it against Lee Qian for seeking a partner, despite his secret affection for her. He loved her silently, without expecting anything in return.
But now, Lee Qian had borrowed money without repaying and treated him like a backup plan, laughing about his unrequited love behind his back. She was brazenly unapologetic about her callousness.
Soong Fei couldn't stand it!
His feelings were strong, but he would never compromise his self-respect. That's the distinction between true affection and being someone's doormat.
Furthermore, having seen Lee Qian's true colors, Soong Fei was simply repulsed by her.
"He's the one who can't drink anymore, so why don't you convince him? Don't act as if he listens to me—I'm not his dad!"
No sooner had he spoken than the intoxicated Liao Binn burst out, "Dad! Burp... Cheers! Happy birthday to you..."
Liao Binn almost sang the last phrase, which would have been perfectly matched with a gong and suona accompaniment.
The unexpected "Dad" left Soong Fei completely dumbfounded.
Su Weiwei, on the other hand, couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity.
Before Su Weiwei could compose herself, Liao Binn, still clutching his wine glass, began to dance a twist and called out to Su Weiwei, "Mom! Hahaha... Cheers!"
The situation left Su Weiwei in a mix of laughter and disbelief.
Clearly, Liao Binn was far gone. No one takes a drunken rant seriously.
Su Weiwei advised Soong Fei, "Enough is enough. Any more drinking and things will escalate."
Soong Fei cheerfully conceded, "Okay, if the child's mother has spoken, then I shall respectfully comply!"
"Scram!"
Su Weiwei shot him a fierce look and gave Soong Fei a firm shove.
Soong Fei wasn't drunk, but he had to put on a show! It was crunch time, and he had to focus on the task at hand. When Su Weiwei gave him a shove, he feigned a loss of balance and took a dive.
Murphy's Law in action, his head smacked right into a wine bottle, and he was bleeding profusely!
"Dad, what happened to you? Oh no, it's so slippery..."
Liao Binn instinctively reached out to help his "father," living up to the reputation of a dutiful son, even inebriated. He ended up taking a spill that left him sprawled out worse than Soong Fei.
Soong Fei shook his head as if to clear the dizziness, and that's when he caught sight of the "King of K歌" mark on Liao Binn's face.
The prize was within arm's reach!
Soong Fei was still in his right mind; he wouldn't miss this golden opportunity. He slapped his hand down without hesitation.
He silently counted down in his head: 10, 9, 8...
By this time, Lee Qian and another boy were trying to help Liao Binn up, but Liao Binn, ever the fighter, refused their assistance with a flailing stubbornness.
Throughout the scuffle, Soong Fei kept his hand firmly on Liao Binn's cheek, as if it had turned into a claw.
At last!
[Collection Successful!]
[Skill Acquired from Liao Binn: King of K歌 Mastery!]
With the prompt ringing in his ears, Soong Fei realized it was time to wrap up this father-son drama. He let himself collapse to the ground.
The tussle between the drunks was finally over.
Chuckling to the sound of success, Soong Fei laughed heartily, his joy akin to that of a delighted husky.
He had secured the treasure! And had put that little weasel in his place!
The act was totally worth it!
But now, he had to keep up the charade... Suddenly, Soong Fei paused, puzzled. What on earth was this "King of K歌"? He'd been tone-deaf since childhood; what use did he have for such a skill?
Was it meant to be a joke?
He couldn't dwell on it any longer. The best course of action after such a performance was to get some well-deserved sleep!
Just before drifting off, Soong Fei heard Chen Le's voice: "What's all this about a father-son showdown?"
Then came Su Weiwei's reply: "More like a father-son brawl. Liao Binn's in orthopedics; looks like he's got a problem with his lumbar disc."
"Alright, keep an eye on things for me, will you? Your dad's rushing me to get back!"
"Go ahead, make sure my dad's taken care of!"
"Sure, you look after my brother..."
"Enough already, just scram!"
Su Weiwei sent Chen Le packing amidst the noise.
Soong Fei was awake, but not fully alert.
He had to feign sleep!
Surveying his surroundings and using his senses, he deduced he was in a hospital room, his head swathed in bandages.
He decided to heed his body's needs, shifting to a more comfortable position, and resumed his deep slumber.
But then, he faintly caught the sound of Su Weiwei's phone.
"Honey, the big star Mom set you up with is coming in a couple of days. He's even putting on a concert just for you."
"Trust me on this, the star is a catch. He's absolutely perfect for you."
"He's known as the 'Prince of Love Songs'... and his family, well, they're..."
