C6 Become Sisters
"Mom, this type just isn't for me."
Upon hearing this, Su Weiwei's mother, Liu Sujuan, swiftly shifted her tone and spoke with heartfelt sincerity, "The guy is 180 centimeters tall and really handsome."
Su Weiwei rolled her eyes and flashed a mischievous grin, her biting wit coming to the fore.
"Mom, he and I could only be sisters."
Liu Sujuan was momentarily at a loss for words. The statement was brief, but it was loaded with subtext.
Soong Fei, standing nearby, couldn't resist giving Su Weiwei a thumbs-up, impressed by her way with words.
Even the other patients in the ward couldn't contain their laughter once they got the punchline.
But to Liu Sujuan, these words were less hurtful and more deeply insulting.
She became incensed, her voice growing louder and her speech quicker.
"Nonsense, you're just teasing me again. What kind of guy are you looking for?"
"Someone who's a real man, at the very least!"
"I introduced you to an athlete before, and you said he was all brawn and no brains, lacking culture. Then I introduce you to a handsome guy, and you joke that you could only be sisters. Are you ever going to get married or not?"
Liu Sujuan let loose a torrent of words.
Soong Fei chuckled to himself, picturing Liu Sujuan's animated expression during the phone call.
"Mom, you're going overboard. It's either a gorilla or a bunny with you. When it comes to choosing a partner, I'm the one who decides, so please stop meddling."
With that, Su Weiwei promptly ended the call. Turning around, she caught Soong Fei staring at her with wide eyes.
Soong Fei spoke softly, "Parents are starting to press for marriage, huh?"
Su Weiwei gave a gentle nod.
"How old are you?"
"Asking a lady's age isn't very polite," Su Weiwei chided softly.
Soong Fei smirked, "You're still so young. Why is your mom pushing for marriage so soon?"
"How should I know?"
Soong Fei feigned deep thought before playfully ribbing her, "I know why your mom's so eager to see you married off."
"Why's that?"
"Even though you're pretty, you've got a bit of a temper. That's got to be why your mom's concerned."
With a teasing grin, Soong Fei looked at Su Weiwei, clearly enjoying the banter.
Su Weiwei gave Soong Fei a withering look.
"I'm a lady; I don't stoop to teasing men."
With that, Su Weiwei didn't tease any further but went straight for Soong Fei's waist with a pinch.
"Look at the bright side. Your parents just want what's best for you. They're not pushing marriage; it's their anxious hearts for their children that are speaking," Soong Fei said while trying to fend her off.
Su Weiwei shot Soong Fei a sidelong glance.
"I'm surprised you can actually say something worthwhile. You've really pulled out the ivory this time."
Su Weiwei's words were veiled, but Soong Fei was quick on the uptake, immediately grasping the subtext of her remark.
He held his head high, not deigning to give Su Weiwei another glance.
"Attacking me without swearing, huh? What's the matter? You want me to be your lapdog? Dream on."
Soong Fei's words were also layered with meaning, insinuating that Su Weiwei fancied him and he had firmly rejected her.
The two of them were well-matched adversaries, continuing their verbal sparring in the hospital ward.
The other patients in the ward couldn't help but smile at the exchange.
Especially some middle-aged men, who watched the young pair's playful banter with the knowing eyes of those who've been there before.
Just then, the door burst open with a loud bang.
The patients in the neighboring bed jumped, but their expressions softened in an instant.
A beautiful woman had entered, and men are often more forgiving towards women.
She was tall and attractive, with eyes wide and cheeks puffed in anger.
It was none other than Lee Qian.
As soon as Lee Qian stepped in, she flung her bag at Soong Fei, then pointed at him and yelled, "You jerk, what the hell were you up to last night?"
The patients nearby couldn't hide their disappointment. The girl was pretty and stylish, but her coarse language suggested a lack of substance. A case of all that glitters is not gold.
Soong Fei caught the bag and retorted, "This is a hospital. Keep it down."
Lee Qian's demeanor also rubbed Su Weiwei the wrong way.
Soong Fei stretched out and replied in a low voice, "What's the big deal about having a few drinks last night?"
"Don't play dumb with me. Why did you have to go and bully my boyfriend yesterday, making him embarrass himself?"
"Sorry, he can't hold his liquor—that's on me!" Soong Fei stood up and stretched languidly.
In that moment, he felt a profound sense of disappointment with Lee Qian.
Without saying a word, Lee Qian charged at him and gave Soong Fei a forceful shove.
Su Weiwei's eyes flashed with disapproval.
Soong Fei didn't fight back, just shook his head and said, "Youth blinds you with beauty, like being fogged by lard."
Su Weiwei caught the subtext in his words and laughed.
But Lee Qian was clueless about Soong Fei's meaning, continuing her hysterical shoving.
"You're so broke, and you have no class. Understand? Keep this up, and you'll never find a girlfriend. Dreaming of picking up girls when your pockets are empty..."
"Fine! You win," Soong Fei conceded, a touch of resignation in his voice.
He was indeed broke.
Lee Qian seized on this to strike at his psyche, leaving him without a comeback.
Soong Fei knew words wouldn't change reality.
Then, Su Weiwei slipped her arm through Soong Fei's and whispered, "Honey, didn't you tell her I'm your girlfriend?"
Soong Fei hesitated, but quickly caught on to Su Weiwei's intention to help.
He blurted out, "I hardly know her!"
With that, Lee Qian's standing in his heart plummeted to that of a stranger.
Stunned, Lee Qian was at a loss for words.
She began to scrutinize Su Weiwei.
Su Weiwei exuded an air of grace and intellect.
Her natural elegance, paired with stunning looks, sparked envy in Lee Qian.
What's more, Lee Qian could tell from Su Weiwei's accessories that she was well-off.
Her watch was Longines, her outfit Gucci, her pants Louis Vuitton, and her earrings a limited edition from Jinliufu.
"Cut it out," Su Weiwei said dismissively, giving Soong Fei's shoulder a symbolic tap. "I've told everyone you're my boyfriend. Now, you need to tell everyone I'm your girlfriend."
"I've notified everyone who needed to be. When I was sending out the message, I just couldn't recall who she was, so I forgot. That's on me. My dear, how about we catch a movie?"
"Sounds good."
"I've heard 'XX' is really well done."
"Yeah, I've heard it's hilarious. I'll cover the movie tickets, and you handle the milk tea."
Su Weiwei and Soong Fei, both sharp-tongued, struck with their words, and Lee Qian felt as though she'd been dealt a ten-thousand-point critical hit, leaving her completely stunned.
What in the world was happening?
The cost of a movie ticket was clearly more than a milk tea.
And here was a glamorous woman offering to treat Soong Fei.
Lee Qian just couldn't come to terms with that reality.
