This time, they really put their backs into it, pushing him so hard he was left speechless. His belly fat wobbled like a swim ring, and his thighs, as thick as water buckets, involuntarily shuffled back two steps.
Su Weiwei and Soong Fei carried on with their business talk.
"A meal! A steak," Soong Fei declared, holding up his index finger.
"Deal," Su Weiwei responded with equal briskness.
"Count me in," Chen Le interjected bluntly.
"Why?" Soong Fei and Su Weiwei exclaimed in perfect harmony.
Their chemistry was off the charts!
They both tried to beat each other to the punch with their retorts, but that excuse had been played out; they wouldn't be able to dupe Chen Le this time.
Without missing a beat, Chen Le blurted out, "Call it a hush fee!"
He knew he had to strike while the iron was hot or miss out on the meal entirely.
For Chen Le, it wasn't about the cost of a meal; his family had money to burn.
He had stumbled upon something intriguing and was determined to get in on the action.
"Sponsorship my foot," Soong Fei scoffed, feigning interest in the sky above.
"We're not a couple, so I'm no third wheel. But if you leave me behind, I'll turn into a megaphone," Chen Le threatened with a mischievous grin.
His expression was the epitome of cunning.
"Never thought a man could be so keen on gossip," Su Weiwei ribbed him.
She was goading him, trying to ignite Chen Le's masculine pride and shake off this nosy pest.
Chen Le was well aware of Su Weiwei's tactic. He grinned and retorted, "When it comes to gossip, it's an equal-opportunity pastime."
"Boss Su, this guy's been a real pal, always there to pick up the tab when I'm broke. It's time I returned the favor. Let's bring him along!" Soong Fei feigned nobility, though it was Chen Le's pressure that swayed him, and he posed as the epitome of virtue.
"First, help me send that little pop star packing. Do a good job, and steak's on me tomorrow," Su Weiwei challenged, fixing her gaze on Chen Le, the rotund man before her.
"Sure, they say a friend would take a knife for you, but for your sake, I'll stab your 'sister' twice over. Just let me at him, and I'll ensure he feels the full weight of his actions," Soong Fei boasted, thumping his chest confidently.
His gift of gab was truly unmatched.
Chen Le greatly appreciated that about him, which is why he was eager to join in on the fun.
It sure beat playing video games or binge-watching TV shows in the dorm.
"Not bad, my good brother." Su Weiwei clenched her fists and gave Soong Fei's chest a playful tap. "I value your magical ability to dish it out, that's why I've asked for your help. When the time comes, go all out. Don't hold back on my account."
Su Weiwei pursed her lips.
After all, this young lady had shelled out the "high price" of two steaks to secure the services of this verbal gladiator.
Hee Zheng, you're in for a rude awakening!
"Don't worry, brother!" The two strolled along the campus's leafy paths, basking in the warm sunlight, with a chubby companion in tow.
It was a scene straight out of a youthful romance film.
"Couples in movies always start as good friends," Chen Le whispered under his breath.
He was cautious this time because puncturing that delicate bubble would spoil the fun.
More importantly, he didn't want to risk losing out on his steak.
That was like succulent fat just waiting to be devoured!
This time, he was content to play his part in the background.
"Tonight, 9 PM at Di Hao Nightclub. Don't forget," Su Weiwei reminded.
Chen Le chimed in, "Yikes! That's late. We have lights out at 11 PM. You'll have to pay a premium."
The fat man smirked like a sly merchant, his eyes squinting into slits.
Su Weiwei shot him a sharp glance.
"No big deal! Climbing a wall is child's play."
Soong Fei was resolute in his stance against such profiteering.
"I'm coming with you."
Chen Le gave Soong Fei a firm pinch, signaling his strong disapproval of prioritizing romance over friendship.
"Bro, look at me. I can scale a wall with ease. But you? Can you even get up there?"
At that, Gao Fei poked at the ring of fat around his belly.
The sensation was delightfully springy, too enjoyable for words.
"Kindness is wasted on you, it seems. I'm just looking out for you, worried you'll be at a disadvantage at the nightclub."
Su Weiwei quickly interjected, "No, no, we're just singing a song as friends!"
Chen Le retorted, "I'd believe in ghosts before I believe that. You're up to no good. The guy you're talking about is somewhat of a singer. How can I relax when you want my brother to sing with him?"
At that, Su Weiwei and Soong Fei fell silent.
Su Weiwei sensed trouble and was at a loss for words.
Meanwhile, Soong Fei was recalling the "King of Karaoke" skill he'd acquired from the system the night before. Facing a karaoke session, he felt confident he could handle it.
The path by the basketball court fell eerily quiet as the three lapsed into silence.
It was Su Weiwei who eventually broke the stillness. "This singer, Hee Zheng, is just so-so at best."
Chen Le boasted, "I've had choir practice at the youth center when I was younger. I'm sure I won't be that bad."
He had listened to Hee Zheng's songs and was unimpressed, suspecting the album was pieced together using technical tricks. Chen Le was convinced he could hold his own.
"And if you do bomb?" Soong Fei asked, a glint of mischief in his eyes.
"If I bomb, I'll buy you pizza," Chen Le replied without missing a beat.
"Deal!" Soong Fei exclaimed. "I'm knowingly walking into the tiger's den, but it looks like there's pizza in it for me."
Armed with his "King of Karaoke" skill, Soong Fei was fearless, ready to play the fool to catch the wise.
He planned to outdo Su Weiwei first, then Chen Le.
"Count me in," Su Weiwei chimed in swiftly.
"Miss Su, with all your family's wealth, you're really going to mooch pizza off me?" Chen Le teased, wagging his finger.
"Master Chen, your family owns three streets in Jingjiang City. You've got some nerve mooching a steak dinner off me," Su Weiwei shot back.
She wasn't one to back down easily.
The situation was most advantageous for Soong Fei; regardless of whether Su Weiwei or Chen Le won or lost, he'd get an extra meal out of it.
"Okay, that's settled then. I'm heading out," Su Weiwei said, before turning and walking away from the basketball court.
Afterward, Soong Fei and Chen Le played a game of basketball, followed by a refreshing shower. Promptly at 9:00 PM, they made their way to the Di Hao Nightclub.
Soong Fei had reached out to Su Weiwei before leaving, so upon arrival, he walked straight into the specified private room.
Inside, Soong Fei noticed two men and a woman seated. One was strikingly young and handsome – that was Hee Zheng. Next to him sat a middle-aged man with a somewhat slick appearance.
Su Weiwei gestured towards Hee Zheng and introduced him, "This is Hee Zheng, the guy my mom set me up with for a blind date. He's a singer."
