C4 Red-shelled Beetles
The wound cut by Yang Tian on the mutant pig was almost eighty percent recuperated.
With swarthy skin and fangs out of the corners of its mouth, it was probably not the most powerful Level-1 mutant beast, but it could definitely act as cannon fodder.
It was only on the third day of the apocalypse, when there was a rainfall of blood, that Yang Tian finally had the likelihood of becoming a beast tamer. Currently, he was just an average person who was a little bit stronger than other people. But with the protection of the mutant pig, his safety was guaranteed.
"Phew!"
Yang Tian got up after resting for a while, ready to clean up the mess. Even though the mutant poultry and pigs lacked energy crystals, their carcasses could still be used as food.
Food was so imperative in the apocalypse that even a small piece of dried meat could be bartered for human life.
"Crack! Crack!"
The energy crystals of mutant beasts were generally located in their heads, but even after he crushed dozens of them, he couldn't spot a single energy crystal.
However, this was within Yang Tian's expectations. It was almost unfeasible for a weak mutant beast to form an energy crystal; he was just trying his luck.
There remained seven carcasses of mutant pigs, and compared to mutant ducks, the prior creatures had a greater chance of forming energy crystals.
"Ding!"
"Did I get it?"
Immediately after Yang Tian spotted a white crystal, he promptly used the Tang Saber to gouge it out of the mutant pig's head. It emitted a faint fragrance but no strange odor.
Yang Tian was pleased with the harvest. Of the seven mutant pigs carcasses, three had energy crystals.
Absorbing the energy crystals from mutant pigs could enhance one's strength and defense, but this wasn't Yang Tian's paramount choice. Being a beast tamer in his previous life, Yang Tian heavily relied on spiritual power, so he needed to absorb as many spiritual energy crystals as he could.
However, his principal mission now was to protect himself, so he chose to absorb one of the energy crystals to enhance his physique.
Methods of absorption varied with the kind of energy crystals, and any wrong method would result in a repudiation. For instance, it was advisable to swallow directly the kind of energy crystals that enhanced physical fitness, which was quite handy.
Therefore, in the early apocalyptic period, this type of energy crystal was exceptionally precious.
"Goo!"
After swallowing the energy crystal, Yang Tian felt a warm sensation surging in his stomach. This ascertained the strengthening of his physique by the crystal.
"Phew!"
Yang Tian let out a sigh of relief. The dynamic part of his body was his skin and with the energy crystal strengthening it, his level of defense had been upgraded, making it difficult to get him injured.
After the consolidation, Yang Tian's gaze averted to his crops and fruit trees. During the apocalypse, the vegetation would undergo mutations that made them extremely valuable. Normally, vegetables supplemented vitamins to the human body, but in the apocalypse, they could instantly restore physical strength when ingested. The vegetables guaranteed Yang Tian's survival in the early stages of the apocalypse.
As for the trees, their fruits probably had the same effect as vegetables. But on the downside, they could also be highly toxic or aggressive.
Compared to the vegetables, Yang Tian had to be cautious with the fruit trees or else he would lose his life and become their nourishment.
There was nothing odd with the fruit trees on the outer perimeter, but the one at the center was covered with thorns.
"I knew it!"
How could a fruit tree have thorns? The only possibility was that the mutation made it aggressive and the last thing these kinds of mutant plants allowed was an invasion into their territory.
"Only after becoming a beast tamer can I communicate with it..."
Currently, Yang Tian lacked the ability to communicate with the fruit tree. With the psychic power of an ordinary person, he would be instantly attacked, let alone have a chance at communication. Only after becoming a beast tamer would his psychic power be raised.
A beast tamer not only handled beasts, he also dominated plants. In his previous life, Yang Tian had a Level-5 Ghost Vine under his command, capable of exterminating all the people in a town in a few minutes.
"Boom! Boom!"
An upsurge of crashes and collisions sounded outside the manor.
The enemies actually came to his doorstep.
The mutant pig was likewise set for battle. It could tell that the unexpected guests were definitely not here to party.
Three Level-1 Red-shelled Beetles buzzed aggressively. They had sharp horns as big as an adult's arm on their heads and undersized wings on their backs. Although their wingspan couldn't support their flight, they could amply boost their speed.
The gory scene of Yang Tian's earlier carnage had probably attracted them, and since the location of his manor wasn't necessarily inconspicuous, they effortlessly found this place. Yang Tian was primed for a fight.
Presently, they were violently ramming against the manor's wall in an attempt to smash through it, but they clearly underestimated its attributes.
" Roar!"
Futile in their tactics, they monstrously roared as they rapidly flapped their wings. Though unable to fly, they adeptly crossed through the manor's walls.
The three Red-shelled Beetles traversed the wall and arrived at the manor.
"Roar! Roar!"
The Red-shelled Beetles roared as they glared at Yang Tian and the mutant pig, eyes clouded with cruelty and malice, like they were the next prey.
Facing the three Red-shelled Beetles, Yang Tian wielded his shield, ready to battle. Whilst he fought one of the Beetles, the mutant pig would combat the other, leaving the last one without an opponent.
One of the Red-shelled Beetles led the first offensive against Yang Tian, its sharp horn as its main assault weapon.
"Bang!"
When the sharp horn collided with Yang Tian's aluminum alloy shield, the massive impact pushed the latter several steps back. Fortunately, since his body had been strengthened earlier, he could undoubtedly endure the strike.
Yang Tian was also well aware of the Red-shelled Beetle's weakness. Though its eight legs were fortified in red armor, the joints weren't. His Tang Saber could easily cut them through like carving mud.
The Red-shelled Beetle reiterated its initial offense, but this time, Yang Tian instinctively dodged it.
With a front roll, Yang Tian slid under the Red-shelled Beetle's body, his Tang Saber aimed at one of its joints. He promptly slashed without hesitation.
With a spurt of green blood, the Beetle fell to the side roaring in pain. Seeing its severed leg, its eyes were shrouded with anger, infuriated that a weak creature actually managed to injure it.
The Red-shelled Beetle frenetically rushed towards Yang Tian, readying to use its sharp horn to deliver a lethal blow. But with Yang Tian's ability, how could he be easily hit?
With his shield's aid, he deflected the lethal strike to the side. His Tang Saber swung again and instantaneously, one of the insect's limbs fell off.
On the other side, the battle between the two Red-shelled Beetles and the mutant pig was madly ravaged. The latter was outnumbered and thus it was easily suppressed.
However, the act of the third Red-shelled beetle flying towards the mutant fruit tree baffled Yang Tian the most. Even he himself was clueless about the tree's level, but this Beetle actually strolled into its territory just like that. Mutant plants strongly treasured their domain, the Red-shelled Beetle's move was akin to it committing suicide.
"Bang!"
Yang Tian's lack of attention was exploited by the Red-shelled Beetle. Although he reacted as quickly as he could by using his shield to defend against the attack, his wrist got sliced.
