C13 School Beauty Cui Ranran
The next day, Jiang Nan attended his classes as usual, with Zhou Cheng sitting beside him, chattering away incessantly.
"Enough already! If you don't want to study, I do!" snapped a beauty in front, turning around to scold Zhou Cheng.
That beauty was none other than Cui Ranran, the campus belle. A sophomore with a tall, sensual figure that turned heads, she was the object of many a male student's affections.
Jiang Nan apologized, "Sorry about my friend; he's quite the talker. Please, go on with your class. We didn't mean to disturb you."
"Let's be real, I've been overhearing your tall tales. Jiang Xiaoxiao is your sister? Please, spare me. Take a good look at yourself before making such claims," she retorted sharply. A beautiful rose indeed, but with thorns.
Jiang Nan, holding back Zhou Cheng who was ready to argue, responded with a smile, "Right, right, you're absolutely correct."
Just then, Jiang Nan's phone rang.
He pulled out his phone to answer, but it left something to be desired in appearance. Cui Ranran couldn't resist a jab, "What's that, using a slab of glass for a phone?"
Without a word, Jiang Nan answered the call, and that's when something bizarre happened.
The middle of the so-called piece of broken glass displayed a call screen, seemingly suspended in mid-air, while the edges, which should have been opaque, were transparent.
Jiang Nan caught the astonished looks from Zhou Cheng and Cui Ranran out of the corner of his eye, but he was too busy talking to Jiang Xiaoxiao to bother with an explanation.
Jiang Xiaoxiao had called for a simple reason: she was off to the States to shoot a film, a trip that would last about three months, and she was leaving today. She hoped to catch up with Jiang Nan after his classes.
Once the call ended, Jiang Nan faced Zhou Cheng's bewildered expression and asked, "What's up?"
Zhou Cheng blurted out, "Where did you get such an amazing phone? Did your Seventh elder sister give it to you?"
Cui Ranran, unable to contain her curiosity, softened her tone and interjected, "Senior, may I take a look at your phone?" Clearly, she was still skeptical.
Jiang Nan passed his phone to Zhou Cheng and mentioned, "I have seven older sisters. This phone was a gift from my sixth sister."
"What does your sixth sister do for a living?"
"I'm not sure, she's apparently into scientific research. I never really asked for details."
Meanwhile, Cui Ranran powered on the screen and, sure enough, the wallpaper had a 3D effect, allowing her to clearly see her fingers.
Glancing back at her own Apple phone, it suddenly lost its appeal.
"One last question," Zhou Cheng said, scratching his head in confusion. "I get the transparent projection, but how can the chips be transparent?"
Jiang Nan shook his head. "I have no idea!"
Cui Ranran handed the phone back, now feeling dissatisfied with her iPhone.
Then it hit her – with Jiang Nan owning such a sophisticated phone, could his sister be the Jiang Xiaoxiao? Her heart sank as she realized her image in front of him was completely tarnished.
After class, Jiang Nan stepped out to find Jiang Xiaoxiao waiting outside the classroom, casually dressed yet still drawing a crowd. People were recording videos and some were even asking for autographs.
When Jiang Xiaoxiao spotted Jiang Nan, she quickly handed back the pen and paper to a student and called out, "Jiang Nan, your sister's here!"
Cui Ranran, who had witnessed the whole scene, watched Jiang Nan run over to Jiang Xiaoxiao, feeling utterly embarrassed, grateful that no one else was aware of her turmoil.
"Ranran, what are you staring at? Come on, I've booked us tickets to the amusement park. Let's have some fun!" her boyfriend Zhang Qi said as he approached. Coming from a wealthy family, Zhang Qi had spared no expense in pursuing Cui Ranran, not even batting an eye at iPhones or designer bags when it came to impressing her.
"I think I want a new phone," Cui Ranran declared.
Zhang Qi, familiar with the capricious moods of the campus beauty, replied hastily, "But your iPhone is the most recent model, and you just got it last month. Don't be like that!"
"I don't care, I want a completely transparent phone!"
Zhang Qi felt she was being utterly unreasonable. "Where in the world can you find a completely transparent phone? Screws and such can't be made transparent. Please, stop making a scene, will you?"
"Am I making a scene?" Cui Ranran pointed to the crowd and retorted, "Jiang Nan, the younger brother of the superstar Jiang Xiaoxiao, has a completely transparent phone. If he has one, why can't I?"
"That's impossible! A fully transparent phone can't be produced with current technology. Tell me what's really bothering you, but don't throw a tantrum over nothing!" Zhang Qi and Cui Ranran's argument escalated until they were both red in the face.
Throwing her goddess image to the wind, Cui Ranran dragged Zhang Qi through the crowd and confronted Jiang Nan. "You, show him your phone!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao saw the commotion. Hey, how dare someone point at my brother like that!
"Who are you to point fingers and disrespect people?" Jiang Xiaoxiao exclaimed angrily.
Zhang Qi scoffed, "Even if he is the younger brother of the famous Jiang Xiaoxiao, he's still human. This isn't a sci-fi movie; completely transparent phones don't exist!"
"And what if they do?" Cui Ranran challenged, her eyes brimming with tears.
"I'll eat my damn hat!" Zhang Qi snapped back, fed up. "There's a limit to how much nonsense one can spout!"
At that moment, a bewildered Jiang Nan caught on to what was happening. He promptly pulled out his phone and said, "Here, take a look!"
"Putting on a show with a chunk of glass? If that thing's a phone, I'll eat ten tons of it!" Zhang Qi was adamant in his disbelief.
But the very next second, as the screen came to life, everyone, including Zhang Qi, was stunned.
Zhang Qi stood there, dumbfounded, muttering under his breath, "It's not possible. Transparent phones can't exist. The components, the chips—they're not transparent. It can't be!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao, also fuming at the slight against her brother, whipped out the phone Jiang Miaomiao had given her and illuminated the screen, declaring, "I have one right here, too!"
Zhang Qi was sweating bullets, a Rich Second Generation by any standard, yet today he found himself looking like a complete fool.
"Cough cough, does someone need to eat sh*t!?" a male voice heckled from the crowd.
Catching on, the crowd chanted in unison, "Eat sh*t! Eat sh*t!" It was hard to blame them; Zhang Qi had a reputation for flaunting his family's wealth and acting arrogant.
Jiang Xiaoxiao, seeing the situation escalate, felt a sense of satisfaction. She took Jiang Nan by the hand and they left the chaos behind.
An Enzo stood proudly at the school's entrance. While luxury cars weren't an uncommon sight there, the presence of a stunning beauty like Jiang Xiaoxiao was truly a rarity.
Jiang Xiaoxiao turned to Jiang Nan and said, "Big sis is heading out. We've only spent a few days together, but I've really enjoyed it. I thought it would take us much longer to click, but it turns out we're cut from the same cloth. We became close in no time. Wait for me to return!"
Lost in thought, Jiang Nan was suddenly enveloped in Jiang Xiaoxiao's embrace.
Patting her back gently, Jiang Nan reassured her, "Don't worry, sis. I'll look after myself. We'll keep in touch by phone. It's not a final farewell, so there's no need for tears."
