C7 Seventh Elder Sister Jiang Xiaoxiao
The wails and shouts from outside were incessant, yet to Jiang Nan and Zhou Cheng, they were music to their ears. How did that saying go again? The misery of others is our merriment.
After their meal, Jiang Nan didn't bother with the check. He and Zhou Cheng simply left and hailed a cab back to school.
"You're moving out?"
Zhou Cheng watched Jiang Nan pack and couldn't help but ask.
Jiang Nan remained silent, focused on his task.
"I'm talking to you!" Zhou Cheng grabbed Jiang Nan's arm. "Did you find a fancy new place and now you're too good for our little dorm?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jiang Nan snapped, breaking free and sitting on the bed.
"If you leave, we're no longer brothers!" Zhou Cheng said, his anger palpable as he leaned against the bed.
Knock, knock, knock!
Suddenly, a knock at the door broke the tension.
"Jiang Nan, may your elder sister come in?"
The voice was soft and feminine. Jiang Nan could tell with the slightest thought that it was one of his sisters, but still irked from the argument, he retorted, "I've got sisters to spare!"
"Hey, you little brat! It's me, your Seventh Sister, Jiang Xiaoxiao!" Jiang Xiaoxiao was fuming, her status forgotten as she barged in.
Zhou Cheng, still simmering with anger, looked up to find none other than the international superstar, Jiang Xiaoxiao, before him!
Jiang Xiaoxiao was indeed the pride of the East, having shot to fame starring in a film by the renowned Hollywood director Zhumusi Cameroon right out of the gate. She'd since swept through countless awards, ascending to the ranks of international stardom with the grace of a queen. Her autograph alone was worth a small fortune!
Jiang Xiaoxiao was enjoying a break at the moment, lounging at home.
She was clad in a sleek black cheongsam that accentuated her figure, a vision of elegance that seemed to bridge heaven and earth.
"Finished packing, you little rascal? Second Sister sent me to pick you up!" Jiang Xiaoxiao pointed at Jiang Nan.
Zhou Cheng quickly straightened up, giving Jiang Nan a nudge, "Why didn't you introduce us? Your sister arrives and you don't say a word?"
Jiang Nan gave Zhou Cheng a frosty glare. The audacity of this guy, showing such disrespect to his sister, filled him with contempt.
"Hello, sister. I'm Zhou Cheng, Jiang Nan's roommate!"
Zhou Cheng put on an act, playing the part of a degenerate scholar, and even bowed at a 45-degree angle, bending at the waist!
Jiang Nan, already seething, lashed out with a kick that sent Zhou Cheng sprawling.
"What's your problem?" Zhou Cheng started to rise, anger flaring, but then his eyes fell on Jiang Xiaoxiao, and his demeanor softened instantly. "Sister, don't mind us. We're just messing around, you know, like good brothers do!"
"Hahaha!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao giggled, her hand over her mouth, her enchanting almond eyes squinting into slits. Her poise had a hint of endearing charm, and Zhou Cheng felt as if a hundred wolves were clawing at his heart.
"Have a seat while I finish up here," she said.
Jiang Nan went back to his tidying.
Meanwhile, Zhou Cheng fetched a chair with a sycophantic smile. "Sister, here, please sit down!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao offered a polite smile in return. "Thank you so much!"
That single word of gratitude sent Zhou Cheng over the moon. He was Jiang Xiaoxiao's die-hard fan, having watched all her movies over and over since her debut!
"Sister, have some water!"
"Sister, want some snacks?"
"Sister, feeling warm? I'll turn on the AC for you!"
"Is the AC bothering you? I can fan you. Oh no, elder sister, I don't have a fan! I'll use this book instead!"
Jiang Nan could barely stand to watch. Zhou Cheng had never been like this before!
Jiang Xiaoxiao, however, remained composed and dignified, accustomed as she was to adulation. In contrast, her little brother, busy with his chores, couldn't even muster a few kind words. Really, it was infuriating!
"Elder sister, could I get your autograph?"
A winded Zhou Cheng managed to ask between breaths.
There's truth in the old saying: the higher you climb, the smaller you feel.
Jiang Xiaoxiao, ever gracious, signed her name without hesitation, delighting Zhou Cheng to no end. He was so thrilled he nearly leaped for joy!
Shortly after, Jiang Nan finished packing and, with suitcase in tow, left the dormitory alongside Jiang Xiaoxiao. They hadn't even made it out the door when they were greeted by a noisy ruckus outside.
As it turned out, Jiang Xiaoxiao had arrived in a Ferrari Enzo, a sight to behold for the average college student. A crowd quickly formed, eager to snap photos of the flashy car.
"Look, it's Jiang Xiaoxiao!"
A shout cut through the air, and all heads turned to see Jiang Xiaoxiao standing close to a timid-looking man, their behavior suggesting a close bond.
"That's Jiang Nan, the notorious underdog, right? Just two days ago, his girlfriend left him for a guy with a BMW from a wealthy family!"
"No way, this has got to be some kind of movie scene. How could a celebrity like Jiang Xiaoxiao be with someone like him?"
"It's like a fairy tale turned upside down—more like Chang'e falling for a pig than a flower in dung!"
Jiang Nan chose to ignore the comments. He was no stranger to being underestimated and had long since learned to shrug it off.
Jiang Xiaoxiao, however, was not one to hold back her fiery temper. As the pampered youngest of seven sisters, she was used to being doted on almost as much as Jiang Nan. She wouldn't stand for such disrespect.
"Listen up! This guy is my little brother, and I won't allow any of you to bully him from now on, got it?!" she declared.
The crowd was stunned.
"Jiang Nan is an orphan, isn't he? Since when does he have a sister?"
"This is it, the poor guy's about to make his comeback!"
"Comeback? His sister may be an international star, but what power does she really have? We're the ones who stand to benefit!"
With her presence commanding attention, Jiang Xiaoxiao parted the crowd effortlessly. Despite making way, everyone still whipped out their phones to capture the moment, recording and snapping photos.
Once the luggage was secured, the distinct rumble of the Enzo filled the air. The onlookers stepped back, watching the Ferrari speed off into the distance.
Afterward, the boys lingered, inhaling deeply as if trying to capture the last traces of the exquisite perfume that lingered in the air.
Jiang Nan, meanwhile, gazed silently out the window, lost in thought.
"Hey, you little stinker, what's got you so down in the dumps at the sight of me? I'm your sister, the kind that everyone adores and makes flowers bloom just by showing up!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao was irked. This little stinker wasn't giving her the time of day!
Jiang Nan shook his head and replied, "No, sis. Are you guys keeping tabs on me?"
"What? No... of course not, how could we ever... spy on you? Don't be paranoid, don't be paranoid! Hey, check out my leather seat, it's got ventilation and everything. Not hot in the slightest. Give it a try!"
Jiang Nan observed Jiang Xiaoxiao. This goofy Seventh Sister was nothing like their Second Sister – they hardly seemed related.
"I just can't figure you out. How do you manage to act so poorly? You can't even tell a lie convincingly!"
"I... I... I'm not lying, not at all!" Jiang Xiaoxiao was clearly flustered.
Truth be told, she was usually adept at switching between personalities, even controlling her microexpressions, blushing, and heartbeat. But for some reason, she just couldn't fib in front of her pesky little brother.
She was overwhelmed with a profound sense of guilt, as if she were on the brink of tumbling into hell at any moment.
