C2 Jabberwocky

Su Jiuming looked more like he was dancing in a public square than practicing swordsmanship. He had only just picked up the sword when the system's mission popped up again: "Use the sword as a gymnastics exercise."

What kind of bizarre mission was this? Doing gymnastics made sense, and so did wielding a sword, but how was he supposed to combine the two? Su Jiuming rolled his eyes in exasperation and decided to ignore it.

He had been here for quite some time, and these missions had nothing to do with his cultivation. Worse yet, the rewards were nothing more than farming tools. He had no interest in such pointless tasks.

Su Jiuming lifted his sword and swung it a few times, but no matter how he swung it, it just didn't feel right. He tried to imitate the dance moves of movie stars for a bit but ended up making a fool of himself. Far from the elegance of a sword cultivator, he stumbled around as if he were drunk, his movements unintentionally comical.

Meanwhile, at the side of the cliff, a man in white had been observing Su Jiuming with a stern expression. This was Lee Daoquan, Bai Yifeng's eldest disciple and Su Jiuming's senior brother. A renowned Dao zealot within the Veiled Moon Sect, Lee Daoquan devoted every day to nothing but cultivation. For him, nothing was more pressing than pursuing the Dao and dedicating himself to cultivation.

His presence here was orchestrated by Bai Yifeng. "Don't rush into meditation. Go see your junior brother and learn from him. It will be beneficial," Bai Yifeng had instructed after taking away a painting from Su Jiuming, from which Lee Daoquan had just gleaned some insights. He was about to settle into meditation when Bai Yifeng stopped him with these words.

"Learn from him? He's merely a mortal. What could I possibly learn?" Lee Daoquan questioned.

"Master, I don't understand how you've determined him to be the chosen one, but I'm preoccupied with cultivation. I must take my leave," he said, showing a hint of impatience.

Lee Daoquan often displayed a lack of deference to his superiors. Celebrated as a once-in-a-century prodigy, his potential was said to far exceed that of Bai Yifeng. Thus, he was always candid with his master.

"If you refuse to go, then forget about ever calling me your master or learning my secret techniques!"

Lee Daoquan's behavior was somewhat spoiled by Bai Yifeng. With Bai Yifeng's command, Lee Daoquan reluctantly agreed to go.

Whether or not he recognized Bai Yifeng as his master was irrelevant to him, but he was indeed interested in the secret techniques.

Yet, after observing for quite some time, Lee Daoquan couldn't make heads or tails of what Su Jiuming was attempting.

To him, Su Jiuming's swordsmanship couldn't even compare to a novice child's.

Su Jiuming didn't even hold the sword correctly, much less practice properly with it.

Swinging the sword, chopping away, the fine blade given by Bai Yifeng was reduced to something akin to a cleaver in his hands.

Lee Daoquan had once coveted that very sword, pleading with Bai Yifeng for ages without success. Yet, upon Su Jiuming's arrival, Bai Yifeng handed it over as if it were nothing more than a common kitchen knife.

What a waste of a magnificent weapon!

Lee Daoquan felt he was wasting his time watching Su Jiuming mishandle the sword, his heart aching with each clumsy move. Unable to bear it any longer, he shook his head, turned on his heel, and was about to walk away.

[Should you fail to complete the task, you will be completely stripped of your five senses.]

Su Jiuming was reluctant to undertake the mission, but the system was indifferent to his wishes, promptly blocking his vision and hearing as a warning.

The world around him plunged into darkness, and all sounds ceased. Only the system's warning echoed in his mind, instilling a sense of panic in Su Jiuming.

With no other choice, he gripped the sword in the pitch black and began doing broadcast calisthenics.

First up, stretching exercises.

One, two, three, four...

The sound of slicing air filled the space.

Lee Daoquan, just as he was about to exit through the stone barrier, sensed a swift onslaught of wind blades heading his way. He quickly sidestepped, but still, a lock of his hair was sheared off.

The once formidable stone barrier was cleaved in two.

Understandably angered by an attack that could have been lethal, Lee Daoquan spun around to see where the wind blades had originated from, only to be left utterly astonished.

This was no mere wind blade; it was unmistakably Su Jiuming's sword qi!

Su Jiuming held his sword aloft, limbs extended, as the sword qi swirled around him harmlessly, exuding an aura of tranquility.

The sword wind lifted the fallen leaves from the ground, which disintegrated upon the slightest touch with the sword qi, silently demonstrating the potency of his technique.

Su Jiuming's energy waned before he could complete his calisthenics routine.

The sword weighed over ten kilograms, and combined with the full-body workout, it was no surprise that Su Jiuming was exhausted.

Moreover, some movements were awkward to perform with the sword in hand, causing Su Jiuming considerable frustration and discomfort.

As his movements ceased, the sword wind dissipated, and Su Jiuming finally paused, locking eyes with an enraptured Lee Daoquan at the doorway.

Though his vision was still somewhat hazy, Su Jiuming could make out his surroundings more clearly now.

Upon noticing the stone door behind Lee Daoquan had been cleaved apart, he expressed his astonishment, "Senior Brother, you could have simply used your token to enter. Why go to the trouble of splitting the door open?"

"…"

"I get it now. Senior Brother, you wanted to rescue me? Thank you, I never would have guessed beneath your cool exterior lies a heart of gold."

Before Lee Daoquan could utter a word, Su Jiuming had an epiphany and began to speak, his face etched with emotion.

"…Not—"

"I may never be able to repay this debt of gratitude, but thank you for freeing me!"

Worried that Lee Daoquan might have second thoughts and prevent his departure, Su Jiuming quickly expressed his thanks, cutting off Lee Daoquan mid-sentence.

With an exaggerated bow, Su Jiuming dropped his sword to the ground and scurried off, abandoning the noble air he had while brandishing his sword.

Seeing Su Jiuming attempting to leave, Lee Daoquan, unconcerned with formalities, drew his sword to block the path, aiming it at Su Jiuming and demanded,

"Do it again."

"What?"

"The sword technique you just performed, please enlighten me once more."

Su Jiuming was baffled by Lee Daoquan's curt words, and sensing his own impoliteness, Daoquan made a conscious effort to adjust his demeanor before speaking again.

"A sword technique? What in the world? I was just doing some calisthenics."

Su Jiuming was itching to speak his mind, but the earnest look on Lee Daoquan's face stopped him. Instead, he silently picked up his sword and, with eyes closed, began to dance once more.

Lee Daoquan, having drawn his sword, steeled himself and proceeded.

Within the confines of the cliff, Su Jiuming resumed his calisthenics with the sword as Lee Daoquan observed.

The sword's breeze picked up again, and despite the movements appearing awkward and comically shameful, Lee Daoquan gained some insight.

Embarrassing as they were, Su Jiuming's movements brought the sword into harmony with his body, integrating the sword's energy seamlessly.

In that moment, he was one with the sword, and the sword with him.

Feeling the awkwardness persist, Su Jiuming decided to cast aside the sword and complete the calisthenics with full concentration, restoring his vision and hearing.

"I've learned much," he acknowledged.

After Su Jiuming finished his calisthenics, Lee Daoquan approached, bowing deeply in a gesture of respect, shedding his former arrogance for a demeanor of humility and grace.
