C13 A Five-star Hotel
Is that you, Chu Tian? Long time no see! I heard you got hired by a prestigious company in Jinling. You should be in Jinling City now, so what brings you here?"
The first one to speak was Xiang Fei. Both he and Chu Tian attended Qingzhou University and majored in business and trade.
Xiang Fei hailed from Qingzhou and was wealthy. His father owned a construction company there with assets worth a few hundred million.
Therefore, Xiang Fei always looked down upon Chu Tian, who came from a small town.
Particularly, Chu Tian was academically superior and better-looking than Xiang Fei, which added to Xiang Fei's discomfort.
Even though Xiang Fei was initiating a conversation with Chu Tian, it was clear that he was mocking him.
"You must have forgotten Chu Tian's romantic dedication. He chose to stay in this small town of Qingzhou for Lee Shuyi, wasting his talents," Luo Yun added.
Luo Yun, also wealthy and from Qingzhou, belonged to a family that owned a four-star hotel.
In Qingzhou, a four-star hotel was considered upscale, and Luo Yun's family was worth over a hundred million.
The third person, Wang Gaoyuan, who remained silent, also came from a wealthy family.
Together, they were known as the three swordsmen of Qingzhou University's Commercial School. Despite graduating, they didn't miss the chance to ridicule Chu Tian.
"Ah, I remember now. Chu Tian gave up his career for love," Xiang Fei said, laughing. "Where's your girlfriend, though? Did she dump you for some higher-up at her job?"
"Quite possible! Lee Shuyi never struck me as the faithful type. You should keep an eye on her," chimed in Wang Gaoyuan.
"You should go check on her now. She might be dating someone else," they added.
They spoke loudly, intentionally letting everyone around hear, not sparing Chu Tian any dignity.
The old Chu Tian would have likely crumbled under the pressure.
But now, he was a man of unshakable resolve. The taunts didn't affect him.
He stood his ground, his face unreadable, watching the trio.
They initially thought Chu Tian would react with shame and anger. His calmness surprised them, making their taunts seem pointless.
"Are you done? If so, I'll go in now."
Chu Tian sneered slightly, then walked towards the hotel lobby door.
Seeing that Chu Tian was about to leave Wang Gaoyuan abruptly stepped in front of him, blocking his way. "Where do you think you're going?" he said.
"What does it look like I'm going to do?" Chu Tian shot back, already standing at the entrance of the lobby.
"You're planning to go in?" Wang Gaoyuan frowned.
"What do you think?" Chu Tian replied, looking at him as if he were a fool.
You can't go in! Do you even know what place this is? This is the Longteng Hotel, and it's booked for the evening. No one else is allowed. You're not qualified to enter," said Wang Gaoyuan, a hint of arrogance in his eyes.
Wang Gaoyuan looked at Chu Tian, his gaze filled with pride.
Because he, Wang Gaoyuan, was qualified to be there.
His qualification, however, had been granted by Luo Yun.
Luo Yun's family owned a four-star hotel, and his father was acquainted with the Longteng Hotel's owner. Therefore, Luo Yun had a few exclusive tickets to bring some friends and expand their horizons.
Otherwise, neither Xiang Fei nor Wang Gaoyuan, despite their local prominence, would have the qualifications to enter the Longteng Hotel that day.
After all, today's event was a gathering of Qingzhou's elite. Small business owners had no right to be present.
"Whether I'm qualified or not is none of your business. Get out of my way!"
Said Chu Tian, maneuvering around Wang Gaoyuan to approach the door.
Wang Gaoyuan darted back in front of him and yelled to the security guard, "Security! This man is trying to crash the event. Arrest him!"
His shout immediately drew the attention of many around him.
The event was filled with distinguished individuals, all of whom were there at the invitation of the Ye family's Second Master. In such a formal setting, causing a disturbance was a direct affront to the hosts and to the Ye family's honor.
Luo Yun and Xiang Fei joined Wang Gaoyuan. Luo Yun questioned Chu Tian, "What gives you the right to enter, Chu Tian? Did you receive an invitation?"
"Who says I can't?" retorted Chu Tian.
"Do you even have the credentials or the audacity to go in? Where's your invitation?" Xiang Fei sneered. "Show us the invitation, and then you'll be allowed in," he added, still looking disdainful.
Who does Chu Tian think he was? He's just a poor guy from a small town. His assets were not even a tenth of his family's. Xiang Fei himself was not qualified to be here, let alone his father. And yet Chu Tian could get in?
This was laughable.
"I don't have an invitation letter; I received a verbal invitation," said Chu Tian calmly.
You're that impressive? A verbal invitation? Who invited you? Was it the Second Master of the Ye Family?" Xiang Fei said, looking shocked.
"Yes," Chu Tian nodded. He was telling the truth.
As soon as he nodded, not only did Xiang Fei and his friends laugh, but even the surrounding audience chuckled. It seemed like Chu Tian had made a joke too big to be believable.
If he had said someone else invited him, perhaps it would have been more believable. But no one was going to believe that the Second Master of the Ye Family invited a poor guy like Chu Tian.
"Did everyone hear that? He says he was invited by the Second Master of the Ye Family!"
"Chu Tian, you've truly surprised me. I thought you were good at school, but you're even better at boasting. Do you really think someone from the Ye Family would associate with you? You're shameless!"
Xiang Fei and his friends weren't the only ones mocking him; even bystanders shook their heads in disbelief.
"Young people these days are all talk, so unrealistic!"
"Exactly! You came to disrupt this event just for a chance to rub shoulders with someone important. That's truly an unwise move; it's going to backfire."
They all assumed that Chu Tian was here to network with some big shot, hoping to make an impression for future career advancement.
It's a common tactic in the workplace. If Chu Tian were a woman, it might have been even more effective.
