C14 Uncle Give Me the Bag
Yet, as he went about his task, Liu Fann's actions drew a fair share of curious looks from passers-by.
"You're so young and out here picking up trash. Dude, I gotta say, that takes guts!"
A young couple paused by the trash can, the guy sporting a shock of yellow hair and a cigarette dangling from his lips, watching Liu Fann with a smirk.
His companion, clutching a Louis Vuitton bag, wrinkled her nose and kept her distance, clearly repulsed.
"Hey, you look pretty sturdy. My company's in need of a security guard. Why not give it a shot? It's got to pay better than this," the yellow-haired man offered, sizing Liu Fann up.
Liu Fann knew the type: a little money made them feel superior, entitled to judge others' lives.
"Come on, let's not get in his way," the woman said, her voice dripping with disdain as she steered clear of Liu Fann.
Suddenly, Liu Fann looked up and inquired, "Bro, you done with that smoke?"
Huang Mao, taken aback, pinched the half-smoked cigarette and replied, bewildered, "You want it? Sure, it's yours."
With a grin, Liu Fann accepted it, snuffed out the ember, and tossed it into his bag.
"See that? Now that's dedication. He doesn't miss a single piece of trash. Seriously, we could use a guy like you on our security team!" Huang Mao said, lighting up another cigarette and heaping on the praise.
Just then, the roar of a motorcycle broke the moment. Huang Mao's girlfriend screamed, "Ah, my bag!"
Both men turned to see two helmeted figures on a bike, speeding away with the woman's LV bag in their grasp.
Huang Mao swore and reached for his phone to call the police, but in an instant, Liu Fann sprang into action like a panther, the wind from his movement snatching the cigarette right from Huang Mao's lips.
The thieves, two middle-aged men, had barely a moment to relish their prize before one felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Uncle, hand over the bag!"
The man was taken aback, staring in disbelief at the young man who had caught up to them, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Who's that, second brother?"
The driver, startled by a voice from behind, spun around and lost control of the wheel. With a loud crash, he plowed into a roadside stand.
"Bro, your bag."
Liu Fann watched the police cart off the two would-be robbers and handed the LV bag back to Huang Mao.
Huang Mao's girlfriend, filled with remorse, murmured a thank you.
"Man, you're lightning-fast!" Huang Mao was still awestruck by Liu Fann's swift action.
Liu Fann just shrugged. "I've always been quick on my feet. I used to chase trains when I was a kid."
Huang Mao paused, taking it in, and his belief in Liu Fann's potential as a company security guard solidified.
"Dude, you should aim higher. Seriously consider joining my company. I'll pay you 5,000 a month. What do you say?"
"No thanks, I'm actually not short on cash. I just enjoy picking up litter and caring for the environment."
Liu Fann swung his tote bag, nearly clipping Huang Mao in the face.
As Liu Fann stooped to collect trash, Huang Mao muttered to himself, "I offer you an opportunity and you turn it down. I can't decide if that's foolish or not."
He glanced back for his girlfriend, only to find she had vanished. Scanning the area, he spotted her snapping photos by a platinum Ferrari.
"Babe, come over here! Check out this fancy car!"
Engrossed in his cleanup, Liu Fann didn't catch a word she said.
