C3 I like to be Handsome to Impress People
"Look, being illiterate isn't the real issue; it's when the illiterate pretend to be cultured that's problematic," Xiao Ge finally chimed in, shaking his head as he regarded Wang Fei and the others. "Tell me, was that some kind of monkey show you were putting on just now?"
His words hit them like a splash of cold water, instantly dousing their smugness.
Wang Fei's face flushed with anger as if he'd been slapped, alternating between red and white. He glared at Xiao Ge, challenging him, "Xiao Ge, you've got nerve. If you're so brave, take me on one-on-one!"
The crowd perked up at the mention of a duel, buzzing with anticipation for the showdown.
"One-on-one?" Xiao Ge shook his head dismissively. "I'm not a fan of violence."
"If you're too scared to fight, then kneel and bow your head!" Wang Fei huffed.
"Resorting to violence is never the answer," Xiao Ge said earnestly. "I prefer to win people over with charm."
"What? Win people over with virtue? Damn, have you lost your mind?" Wang Fei stared at Xiao Ge as if he were an imbecile.
"You misheard me. It's not virtue, it's charm," Xiao Ge corrected with a serious tone, pointing to himself. "Look at me. Don't you think I'm handsome? Doesn't my good looks make you feel inferior? And when you feel inferior, don't you just want to bow down in admiration? That's how I win people over—with charm."
Silence enveloped the crowd as they stood there, mouths agape. The same thought crossed everyone's mind: This guy was truly one of a kind. They had all heard of winning others over with virtue, but using handsomeness was a first!
Wang Fei was dumbstruck for a moment before regaining his composure. "Handsome? You think you're more handsome than me?"
The crowd nodded in agreement. Indeed, Wang Fei was handsome, with the looks of a pop idol and the build of a basketball player. At Ningcheng University, few could rival him in the looks department. Xiao Ge daring to challenge Wang Fei in a battle of looks? He was clearly barking up the wrong tree.
"Oh, you think you're better looking than me, huh?" Xiao Ge eyed Wang Fei with a challenging gaze.
"I'm definitely better looking than you!" Wang Fei bellowed in response.
"Absolutely, Brother Fei is way more handsome!"
"Brother Fei is the best-looking guy here!"
"Wang Fei, you're the most handsome. I love you!"
...
Several onlookers echoed the sentiment, and one particularly infatuated girl from the crowd even declared her love for him publicly.
"How about that? You admit I'm more handsome now, don't you?" Wang Fei was basking in the adulation when suddenly, a fist came flying into his field of vision!
The fist was barreling towards him at breakneck speed. He tried to dodge, but it was too late. The next moment, stars exploded before his eyes and his nose throbbed with excruciating pain. Unable to hold back, he screamed as blood gushed from his nose.
"Do you still think you're the handsome one?" Xiao Ge asked coolly, looking at Wang Fei's bloodied face.
Silence fell over the crowd once more. It's true what they say: the onlookers see the game best. Everyone saw Xiao Ge land a punch on Wang Fei, but it was so unexpected, shockingly so. Xiao Ge's move took everyone by surprise. They all assumed Wang Fei would be the one to throw a punch, but no one anticipated that Xiao Ge would be the first to strike!
Wang Fei was dazed for a few seconds before he touched his nose and looked at his blood-stained hand. The sight of his own blood sent him into a frenzy as he roared, "Damn it, you dare hit me?! I'll make you pay!"
It was the ultimate disgrace.
Wang Fei had never faced such humiliation in his life. It was the first time anyone had ever broken his nose, and the stark contrast pushed him to the edge of madness. Amidst his furious cursing, he balled his fists and charged at Xiao Ge, unleashing a ferocious punch.
His massive fist targeted Xiao Ge's head, but Xiao Ge seemed oblivious to the need to dodge. A gasp escaped from someone in the crowd; if that punch landed, it could be fatal.
As Wang Fei's fist hurtled toward Xiao Ge's head, poised for a forceful encounter, Xiao Ge finally reacted. With a seemingly languid and feeble lift of his left hand, he caught Wang Fei's punch in a flash, halting the momentum of the speeding fist dead in its tracks.
"Damn it..." Wang Fei blurted out a curse, only to feel a searing pain flare across his face.
Smack, smack, smack... The sound of sharp slaps echoed, leaving the onlookers—both male and female students—utterly astonished. Xiao Ge, with Wang Fei's fist still in his left hand, had his right hand far from idle. Like a whirlwind, he delivered a flurry of slaps to Wang Fei's face, each one landing with precision.
Dazed and reeling from the barrage of slaps, Wang Fei's head spun, his reactions dulled to a sluggish crawl.
"Do you still think you're better looking than me now?" Xiao Ge released Wang Fei's fist and nonchalantly dusted off his hands, his tone light and dismissive.
The crowd was at a loss for words. With Wang Fei's face pummeled into a swollen mess by Xiao Ge, how could he possibly outshine him in looks?
Forget Xiao Ge; at this point, anyone pulled from the crowd would outdo Wang Fei in the looks department.
"Damn it, let's all jump in! This jerk just blindsided Brother Fei!" In the heat of the moment, the other members of the 'non-violent, non-cooperative' six-man squad sprang into action. Lee Buyi led the charge with a battle cry, lunging at Xiao Ge with a flying kick.
Unruffled, Xiao Ge effortlessly reached out and seized Lee Buyi's ankle, hoisting him into the air.
"Ah..." Lee Buyi's terrified scream pierced the air, "Help!"
The remaining four charged at Xiao Ge in unison. But before they could close in, Xiao Ge swung Lee Buyi around in a full circle, turning him into a human battering ram against the advancing quartet.
Groans and cries of pain mingled in the air. Seconds later, all five lay sprawled on the ground, leaving Wang Fei, the original 'pig-headed' victim, as the sole figure still standing.
"Unbelievable!" The crowd watched, slack-jawed in amazement.
"Xiao Ge sure can throw a punch..." someone murmured under his breath.
"Wow, Xiao Ge is so dreamy, I really like him..." a girl swooned, utterly smitten.
Wang Fei, sporting a face that now resembled a swollen pig's head, gazed at Xiao Ge with a hint of fear flickering in his eyes. Even a fool would realize at this point that they stood no chance against Xiao Ge.
"Hey, pig head, who's more handsome—you or me?" Xiao Ge asked Wang Fei, his tone dripping with nonchalance.
"You, you..." Wang Fei clenched his teeth. He was loath to submit, but the circumstances left him no choice.
"What's that? Make yourself clear," Xiao Ge demanded, his annoyance showing.
"You're handsome!" Wang Fei spat out the words at last, eager to get away. The longer he lingered, the more humiliating it became.
"So, you admit defeat?" Xiao Ge pressed on.
